Darkzzz_ Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 I didnt have to check Wikipedia to realise how many times they had won the Champs League, twice for a super club is pretty lame. But thats another debate. Koeman did score a tastey free kick in that game. Why bring Maldini in to a debate about Chelsea and Barca? Last time I checked Maldini was contracted to Milan. I dont have a problem I just know that the Premier League is a much better League to be honest and this shows in the Champions League. An English team has been in every final since 2005 and winning 2 of them. Spain have had one and beat a 10 man English team in it, and calling them English is some what controversial. Liverpool smashed Real Madrid 5-0 this year and they are second in La Liga! Shows the difference in class. Anyways we will have to just wait and see until the Semi's because one of us will be eating our words. Yea Liverpool in recent years have one it once but they have been in more finals and semi finals than Barca in recent years. And as usual that was another valid reply from yourself. At least you reacted decent this time. I don't think it is about eating our words, I have hardly said a bad word about the Premiership, It is the strongest league in the world no doubt, but it isn't because of the English, money talks doesn't it. If Barcelona lose to anyone, I have always been the first to blast them and criticise them. I just enjoy my football, I don't need to be told what is what because unlike most people I can form an opinion. I was actually so glad when Liverpool beat Madrid as you can imagine. The English (with mostly foreigners playing) are having there dominance, 2 out of 5 is really great. Honest. As for Maldini, I was just forming an opinion on someone who is supposed to be world class and comparing. No comparison at all. I just hope win or lose, the next round of games are as exciting as these. It's football, we are debating because we love it. Healthy I say.
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Yeah it's all about opinion I suppose. I don't see much La Liga but when I compare the two teams midfield / attacking wise I can see much between them: Drogba AnelkaKalouMaloudaLampardEssienBallack Henry Eto'oXaviIniestaHleb (?)MessiGudjonsen I've probably missed a few players from both teams tbh, but looking at that I can't see much difference in quality. I think Hleb's only been a bit part player since he's gone to Barca. I'd put Lampard in the same bracket as Xavi / Iniesta as well, the amoutn of goals he's gotten for Chelsea is obscene. Drogba seems to have put his attitude problems behind him, and he's easily one of the deadliest marksmen in the world on his day, same with Anelka. But that's also true of Henry and Eto'o. I think it's about personal preference. At least we're in agreement over Abidal. Mr.Shit. Hleb Lampard is world class, I think he is certainly in the same bracket as Xavi, Iniesta and Gerrard. What a midfield that would be, only on Fifa eh?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Hleb Lampard is world class, I think he is certainly in the same bracket as Xavi, Iniesta and Gerrard. What a midfield that would be, only on Fifa eh? ...Hmmm, sounds like an idea. I didn't think Hleb had seen much action. I seriously can't pick between them options though. It'll be a Liverpool / Bayern semi now.
Uncle Albert Posted 9 April 2009 Author Posted 9 April 2009 It'll be a Liverpool / Bayern semi now. If there was any justice.
Sparky Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Barca / Chelsea would be a good one.I don't think either team would "dick" all over each other either way though, they are both pretty much evely matched, although Chelsea's defence certainly looks alot stronger on paper. Chelsea are a class above alot of teams when Essien plays, the chasm in quality between him and Mikel is unreal. If Barca let Chelsea pass it amongst themselves in midfield and give them freedom to move, I can't see anything other than a Chelsea win. Likewise, if Chelsea give Messi any kind of space, he'll unsettle them with ease. John Terry is not one for dealing with that kind of player, Carvalho does alot of covering for him. It could go either way, but it would be a good watch. Most sensible post of the thread by far
welck12 Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 It'll be a Liverpool / Bayern semi now. Wonder what odds would get on that... EDIT - 450/1 with willhill
Ultra Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Liverpool only need to do what they did at Old Trafford at the end of March and they are through! I am confident. Even without Terry, there's no way Chelsea will concede three at the Bridge. In fact, Liverpool will have to abandon their usual cautious, counter-attacking style and this will give Drogba and co. more opportunities. It could end up a rout, a 6/7-1 aggregate scoreline. Once again, Liverpool under Benitez have shown an inability to compete for more than one trophy.

lildave3 Posted 10 April 2009 Posted 10 April 2009 Arsenal - Barca final. Jizz-fest. I think this would be the worst possible outcome ever for me.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 April 2009 Posted 10 April 2009 I would absolutely love it if Barcelona completely refrigerated Chelsea. The problem is that I can see them making a mess of the Stamford Bridge game, being overrun the strength that runs through Chelsea's team. At the Nou Camp that won't be an issue because Barca keep the ball so well. I can't remember Leicester fans being so fawning towards the Big Four when we were playing them regularly, by the way.

Id prefer the Premiership sides to go well in the tournament but when all is said and done its all about City and this is just an interesting sideshow .
Ultra Posted 10 April 2009 Posted 10 April 2009 Suckout dick. Thank you for such a mature and reasoned response. Your grace in defeat is exactly what I expected.
Uncle Albert Posted 10 April 2009 Author Posted 10 April 2009 Thank you for such a mature and reasoned response. Your grace in defeat is exactly what I expected. It was 4 in the morning when I wrote that and had been town so I wasnt thinking clearly. I wouldnt bother wasting my time debating with you anyway, as you are a narrow minded fool. I can quite clearly grace defeat as I have been made to eat my own words from the likes of Nathko in numerous threads and likewise for him.

I don't remember that either, but I just want to clear one thing up for some people just so I haven't mislead anyone in my views. I don't hate the English league or the English clubs at all, it is the media and brainwashed fans I have problems with, especially those that slate other teams and leagues without knowing fook all about them. That is something that really gets to me. Albert, I still wouldn't say we have been eating our own words, we have just had a big difference of opinion mate. If we all agreed then the world would be a sad place, I am not saying what you believe is wrong and likewise what you are saying (I think). We just like different styles and different things. I have no problem with that and I have no problem in admitting when a team has played well, I must say in my defence I have always been fair like that. I still think Chelsea will win the CL this year to be honest, I hope they don't but I realise how strong they are and if Barca and Chelsea meet which looks likely then it will be a cracker with both teams having to do their work at home. I worry that Ivanovic could score a hat trick of headers next time round though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 April 2009 Posted 10 April 2009 Out of the English teams left in the CL I'd rather it be Arsenal or Chelsea that win it.
Bert Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 I'd love Liverpool to win tonight. Really can't see it happening though. Expecting a bore 0-0 or something like that tonight. I hope I'm wrong but i can't see there being more than two goals scored.
Joe. Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 If any team in this competition can come back from a 3-1 home defeat in this competition it's Liverpool. Over the years they've proved so many doubters wrong with their comebacks. It's unlikely obviously, but it's hardly impossible. Just remember this.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Hope Chelsea can finish the job with a commanding home performance, would love Bayern to do something but sadly there is no chance whatsoever.
Simi Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 No Gerrard? Why is this match even being played?! Oh and Drogba is nothing more than a scum bag, rolling on the floor off the pitch and he gets no attention so rolls back on it and gets the referee to stop the game. Cheating willy puller.
