purpleronnie Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 Take a brave man to bet against Barca for the whole shabang, really.Liverpool as good as out, Man Utd on very unpredictable form and I don't fancy Chelsea, Arsenal, Villareal or Porto to have the weight to stop them. Man Utd Barcelona final is possible, right? That'd have to be about the two best teams in the world, surely? Barcelona on form will win the CL, I guess the rest will hope they play them on an off night.
Finnegan Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 Barcelona on form will win the CL, I guess the rest will hope they play them on an off night. Mmmh, I'm not sure. I love Barcelona, they'd be my first choice to win it on preference and they've obviously got the quality. But I wouldn't like to make the call between an in form Barca and an in form Manchester United. I'm sure even Nath would have to admit it'd be an immensely close game. Barcelona are an attractive prospect and it's easy to claim them unbeatable because of all their grace and skill. But Manchester United, on form, are solid, organized, ruthless and immensely efficient. It might not be as good to watch but it's utterly devastating.
Father Ted Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 Can it get any better. Liverpool lost at Anfield and a Serb scores twice!
Guest Bilo Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 A repeat of the 2006 final is on the cards I reckon. Villarreal will struggle at the Emirates sending Arsenal through and Porto will be a very, very tough nut for United to crack on their own turf. Arsenal will probably do Porto over two legs as they appear a decent side in Europe this term. Chelsea are as good as through but will struggle at the Nou Camp against a strikeforce that is surely unrivalled in Europe. Get your bets on a Barca v Arsenal final with Puyol et al raising the trophy.

I agree, united on form would be such a close game. One thing that isn't in doubt, messi is going to be the next world player of the year. Nath, how many goals is that now for LJ Burrows? Messi has 8 CL goals and I believe that is his 32 of the season. I am guessing you were talking about Messi.
lildave3 Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 Messi has 8 CL goals and I believe that is his 32 of the season.I am guessing you were talking about Messi. I was indeed.
Finnegan Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 Can it get any better. Liverpool lost at Anfield and a Serb scores twice! Are you actually of Serbian origin or do you just have some weird boner for Slavic footballers?
Tommeh Posted 8 April 2009 Posted 8 April 2009 United and Pool in the shit, Excellent. Still hoping for a Barca - Arsenal final
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Call me greedy but I still think Howard Webb is a .... I also must say how brilliant Essien looked last night, I didn't watch the game but on the highlights he looked like he marked Gerrard out of the game. Anyone shed any light on this?
Ultra Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 After the first ten minutes, Essien had Gerrard in his pocket all night. Chelsea paid the scousers back in full for the two league defeats. Even with Terry suspended (good move, he'll be needed against Barca), the only way the scousers can come back into it is if Mike Riley's the ref at Stamford Bridge. Porto and Arsenal will be favourites for their second legs but not overwhelmingly so. If they do meet in the semis, it could go either way.
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 After the first ten minutes, Essien had Gerrard in his pocket all night. It looked that way on the highlights. He is a very good player and Hiddink is a good manager. Barca on form will beat anyone, Chelsea will be a tough game though, obviously if both Barca and Chelsea still go through that is. It would take a monumental fook up by both if they didn't. Great two nights of CL football.
Uncle Albert Posted 9 April 2009 Author Posted 9 April 2009 Liverpool only need to do what they did at Old Trafford at the end of March and they are through! I am confident.

Great two nights of CL football. The only time i can remember stevie g getting free was right at the end when torres took a stupid shot instead of teeing him up on the edge of the box. I'd prefer to see l'pool barca than against chelsea though. Best attack in the world against one of the better defences, plus l'pools counterattacking abilities
Uncle Albert Posted 9 April 2009 Author Posted 9 April 2009 The only time i can remember stevie g getting free was right at the end when torres took a stupid shot instead of teeing him up on the edge of the box There were points when Gerrard did break free, when Torres and Gerrard both linked up and Torres blazed over the bar. But taking nothing away from Essien he was brilliant last night, abit like Alonso who restricted Lampard well. Both Gerrard and Lampard were quiet last night. Malouda impressed me, he had a nightmare for the goal as he let Arbeloa go free and put the ball in but after that he was alright. Kalou was good aswell and Drogba looks like he wants to play for Chelsea now. If Chelsea go through they will destroy Barcelona.
welck12 Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 If Chelsea go through they will destroy Barcelona. If barca play anywhere near as good as they did last night chelsea wont get a sniff of the ball
Samilktray Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Barce would be too Flimsy to have any real impact against Chelsea. Terry Vs Messi? Back pocket job for John.
StanSP Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Barcelona will piss all over Chelsea if they both get through.
welck12 Posted 9 April 2009 Posted 9 April 2009 Terry Vs Messi?Back pocket job for John. Could well do, but: Who stops henry and eto'o then?
