Matt Posted 6 December 2012 Share Posted 6 December 2012 in any case, surely Beesley and Morris could've pulled the plug on the project had they not wanted their work tarnished? I can understand the negative reaction to the show itself - but this whole spiel of "AMERICA ROBBED OUR SHOW AND COPIED IT WHY YOU RUINING OUR SHOWS YANKS?!?!?!?" absolutely pathetic considering the two creators of the programme wanted the adaption to happen and worked on the thing. Doesn't make it right, money talks. How the remake made any money is another question.
Alexikokopops Posted 6 December 2012 Share Posted 6 December 2012 There was a lot of subtlety in the UK one, not in the big jokes, but in the interaction between the characters, in the US one every time they made a crack about Neil's Dad Neil had to say "he's not gay!" just so everyone understood. The whole football friend thing couldn't work in the states either, just the silly niggling of Jay until he cracks. Even though they went for it with the disabled kids on the roller coaster, they still had to be wearing T-shirts to spell out they were disabled and on a make a wish type trip, and when they drove off at the end they had to be waving spray cans just so that everyone knew it was them that trashed the car. I wouldn't say that the UK one is subtle, just that the US one (by the sounds of it) is mind bogglingly obvious. To be honest I'm not that big a fan of the UK one. I doubt I'll ever see the US one
Steve_Walsh5 Posted 6 December 2012 Share Posted 6 December 2012 They've ruined the character of Jay and Neil in it. Why does jay look like a fat transsexual and why does Neil look like a Brazilian male escortz They've ruined the character of Jay and Neil in it. RonnieTodger Posted 6 December 2012 Share Posted 6 December 2012 Turned it off after 5 minutes, I couldn't bare it. After watching that "bus turds" video Tom17LCFC posted, I made the right choice. If they're going to do "their own version" (I say that loosely) of the series, they should make original episodes with original dialogue like the US Office. In The Office It's clear to see the character links, but in The Inbetweeners; copying the episode with the exact same flow and outcome is never going to work. Absolutely shameful. Isn't that what they did with the office though? I thought the first season of it in the US pretty much copied the UK script.

I didn't think so? Although I've only seen the odd original The Office episode, so I'm not in any great position to comment. For what it's worth, I think the US version is quality. Ozwin Posted 6 December 2012 Share Posted 6 December 2012 The worst bit was when the Neil guy was wearing a girls outfit and standing in a camp pose and goes "my dad's as straight as me!' Then they had to ****ing explain the joke by having one of the little ****s say 'you could have said that in a better outfit' or something to that effect. Rage. Foxhateram Posted 6 December 2012 Share Posted 6 December 2012 It's feels like they have tried to badly rip off the character from Superbad with the new jay character. I agree with how painful them spelling out everything is, but the yanks don't get our British irony do they!? Sarcasm isn't in their repotoire. Turned it off after ten minutes, it was too painful. Came back to see if he second episode was better but was still disappointed. The Carly character was disappointing too, the bit where she bends over to smell Simons deodorant was ruBbish! Nothing to see there at all. The flow of the episodes was also poor. They skipped a lot of the stuff from the British show.
