leftsideoverhere Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Without Howard, we're not big and we're not clever. Dickov did OK, and for sure the ref/linesman combo was a feckin' disgrace today. Again. But it shouldn't matter how bad the officials are, we should be dominating games like this, and we were second to far too many loose balls this afternoon. And there were far too many loose balls. Does anyone know how bad Cleverley's injury is? We missed him after he went off, although Dyer played a lot better than I feared he might. Barry was OK, but we kept trying the long ball game far too much and it really wasn't working. Posh beating Bristol Rovers may have made next week's game even more important, but it has also tidied up the league table a bit. Rovers now cannot catch us. The only teams that can overhaul our 82 points now are the other teams in the top eight. One more win and Oldham and Tranmere can fook off too, and we'll be in the play-off places at least. The other interesting thing is that Posh are now ahead of MK Dons even with the games in hand taken into account. Leicester 82pts Posh 75 + 21: 96pts max Millwall 70 + 24: 94 MK Dons 68 + 27: 95 Leeds 65 + 24: 89 Scunny 64 + 24: 88 Tranmere 62 + 21 83 Oldham 58 + 24: 82 Southend 58 + 21: 79 X Stockport 56 + 21: 77 X Colchester 54 + 24: 78 X Walsall 54 + 21: 75 X Brizzle: 51 + 27: 78 X
syston_fox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Does anyone know how bad Cleverley's injury is? On the radio on the way home they mentioned dislocated shoulder.
Tommeh Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Considering I didn't expect us to win last week a point today was pretty fair. Just means that next week will be huge, first game in about a year where every minute will count. So exciting to have a truely massive game on the horizon again.

I am very concerned after today. We need to be up for this finish and we aren't. I'm worried.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Yes it was a very piss poor performance but the one i was disappointed with was MF he had 2 good chances to put the ball in the back of the net.But has many other fans have said we are not the same team without Mark Davies and if we are fortunate to go up he is the type of player who is going to be a MUST for next season but it looks like its going to be squeaky bum time until the end of the season.
syston_fox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 I was there , but what did hayles get booked for? Persistant fouling I think.
Thracian Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Watching today was just like toothache. No matter where you turned it was painful. He wasn't great by any means but I sometimes wonder if Kingy is the only player at our club who can trap the ball and pass it simply. And even he fell over the ball once. Whether the pitch was uneven beneath the grass or whether the ball was puddingy I don't know but when we weren't playing the head tennis we've had to get used to post-Tunchev we were choosing to lift the simplest short passes up to chest height, we were slicing em, overhitting them or simply missing the intended target altogether. As expected Pearson went with Hayles up front and he had about as much effect as a striker King Canute did as a force to stop the tide. Fryatt was no better as his partner. He had one terrific chance which he blazed over the bar and I also thought he should have had a penalty when he was pushed in the box. Otherwise I was reminded of the film title "White Men Can't Jump" because he won next to nothing in the air and was mostly like a little boy lost without Howard to take the weight and supply him with the flick ons. People have mentioned how marvellous Hobbs is, and Morrison as his partner, but, honestly, they both looked so clumsy and the worst thing about their distribution was the certain knowledge that they'd likely pump the ball straight to an opponent. Morrison gave one slow otion example. He did so well to clear up a tricky situation with Gilbert and emerged with lots of time and space on the ball. He looked up. There were blue shirts in every direction and what does he do? He lumps the ball high and long straight onto the hed of one of three waiting Colchester defenders. Will he never ealise he can't pass that far. As a team we looked shabby. Did we one put five passes together? I'd doubt it. Why we refused or failed to get the ball down and pass it I don't know but you can't be creative if the ball's in the sky and that meant the likes of Kingy, Gradel and Cleverley were left severely short of the ammunition to fuel any potential invention. King did remain our most dangerous attacker with a couple of near post efforts and another snapshot under pressure which was deflected wide. But really they looked the more dangerous and they'd clearly done their homework on Mattock. Twice they whipped free-kicks deep to a big striker who trwice nodded it right back across goal opening up simple chances which were alternatively saved and missed. Warner made one superlative block from Mark Yeates when the ball struck him in the face and another decent save on the other post which prevented us going behind for a second time after Dickov's timely and predatory equaliser from an Oakley up-and-under chip that forced rare error from Colchester in attempting to clear their lines. The point was a relief and another small step towards our target but, oh dear, we are limping towards that line and it would seem that we've lost Cleverley in the process - to go with the absence of others at Peterborough next week. In fact it's getting so bad that Pearson might have to swallow his price and involve the luckless Porter. How that lad fails to get in such a poor team as we presented ourselves today for all but very brief spells I just don't know.
Legend_in_blue Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 I was there , but what did hayles get booked for? He fell on the floor after being fouled by their defender. Funny thing is, one of their defenders did exactly the same thing in the first half, fell on the floor after fouling Hayles and yet he was given the free kick. Clearly the referee didn't have a clue. Still, it just adds to the frustration of what was a painful experience this afternoon.

So exciting to have a truely massive game on the horizon again. Yeah, as nerve wracking and weird as it will be and sound, it is quite exciting to have such a big game up next, Just worried how the players handle it, and missing Howard seriously worries me. Yes it was a very piss poor performance but the one i was disappointed with was MF he had 2 good chances to put the ball in the back of the net.But has many other fans have said we are not the same team without Mark Davies and if we are fortunate to go up he is the type of player who is going to be a MUST for next season but it looks like its going to be squeaky bum time until the end of the season. Are we still on about him? He was good, We probably do miss him but get on with it, Look forward, Your neck must hurt looking back in the past all the time.
maddog Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 We were crap today. 5 draws in 6 home games is poor by anyones standards. Plus the draw at the Dons that i went to. So thats 6 draws in the last 7 City games i've seen and the win was against Cheltenham Praying for a win next week. We have played shit football for most of the season, but with Howard in the team that seems to work, plus the shitty awful standard of opposition in the League.
maddog Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Anyone know what cracked off in the family end? Anyone know the bloke who ran out on the pitch
syston_fox Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Anyone know the bloke who ran out on the pitch What a twat he was.
Matt Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Anyone know the bloke who ran out on the pitch What a knobhead, Why even talk about him. Cock.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Disappointing performance but a point nevertheless.
Stevosevic Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Crap atmosphere, crap game, crappy goal music, crap day.
Matt Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Crap atmosphere, crap game, crappy goal music, crap day. I thought at the start of the game we made abit of noise tbh. Still crap, but better than usual.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 I might get criticised for this but I think the decision to take Gradel off was very naive. I know Dickov scored literally minutes after coming on and tbh I did want him to come on, but for me it had to be for Hayles (who was useless).

Hayles was even worse than I expected him to be and that's saying something.
Rocky Dennis Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 I was there , but what did hayles get booked for? Deliberate hand ball - When he was on the floor
lcfcadam Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 You lot are all pretty damning of the guy who ran on the pitch. In my mind he provided pretty much the only spectacle of the entire day, and it's not as if he interrupted a period of our pressure... Can anyone see us getting anything more than a draw at the Posh without Howard?
colbo68 Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Twice the player of that Lump Howard mate.Sorry to have to say it. cant believe you've posted this unless of course you're joking? Four points to make today: 1. I didnt realise until today how much the team misses Howard this season when he's not playing 2. Barry Hayles is fookin gash...why oh why is Pearson not giving the younger strikers their chance? 3. We have no plan B - if we aint lumpin the ball up to Big Steve, we look tactically clueless 4. For all the twits who have been predicting a play-off position next season...yeah rite!
