potter3 Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Not sure if this has been said publicly, and I haven't scanned the thread, but it looks almost certain that Cleverley is out for the rest of the season.Info given to me by the player himself, via the medium of Facebook. Not good news.

Webbo Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 All this criticism of the CBs hoofing the ball from the back is missing the point. These players aren't brilliant passers of the ball, if they were they'd be playing in midfield. Their job is stop the opponents from attacking and clear the ball. It's no good expecting Hobbs and Morrison to make a brilliant pass along the ground in their own half, they can't do it well enough and would probably give the ball to the opposition. The safest thing to do is to hoof it clear and hope that one of our players picks it up. I'm sure that Thrac will say that they should be able to pass the ball, but if they can't they can't and no amount of moaning will change that.

You don't have to be anything special to make a simple pass. I don't think anybody's asking for them to deliver inch perfect balls, but they should at least give it to somebody capable of doing that surely?

Agreed and I have said the same a few times this season. There are very few centre backs in world football who can pass the ball brilliantly, the best sides always give the centre backs a short option so they don't have to try something beyond their capabilities. One thing though, Hobbs needs to improve his left foot. He has to play on the left hand side at the minute which means a lot of his clearances fall on his left foot and you can tell he is not comfortable using it.

I don't want Hobbs and Morrison ever making brilliant passes cos froim all I've seen they're wasting their time trying. In fact I'd like them to stop even thinking about brilliant passes. All I want from them is simple 10-15 yard passes along the floor to a colleague's feet. Both are capable of doing that, but far too many times they don't chose to and I think the real reason is not cos they want to look brilliant, it's to cut the risk of making a mistake and having to recover when they both know they might not have the pace and mobility to do so against fast forwards.

Or possibly it's because neither of the central midfielders are mobile enough to find space, thus limiting the defenders' options.
Corky Posted 22 March 2009 Posted 22 March 2009 Someone should tell Hobbs he can't pass with his left foot.
