Finnegan Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Don't know about the next year but Michael Mancienne looked pretty good against Wales and it'd be interesting to see how Fraizer Campbell developes. Wouldn't bet against Steven Taylor making an international debut, either, or James Milner.

Think Scotland and Ghana want him pretty sharpish to join up with their National parties, thats what I read recently anyways. And are my eyes decieving me or did someone put Titus Bramble up there? Ow my. Out of all the possible other English centre halfs you put that flids name down. David Wheater should get a call up before Titus Bloody Bramble. I think who Sparky said will have a chance as an England international and I am also holding out for Joey to get the call up but I cant see that happening anytime soonish. Capello will probably go for another crock who cant even train before matches in his next squad. What the hell was he thinking in getting Ledley in the squad? When he could of had Micah Richards. Did anyone else notice that Agbonlahor was only added to the Under 21 party yesterday or today? Maybe Capello was hoping on a decent performance from him at Anfield but he didnt deliver. Our front line looks pretty shite this time around, and although I don't really think Agbonlahor is that good, you're right that we need some pace up there. Rooney, Heskey, Cole and Crouch doesn't inspire me at all, and won't shake fear into a team which is built to cope with big lumps.
Finnegan Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Baffles me that a number of decent English strikers never really "do it" for their country. The most famous example was probably Ian Wright but more recently Defoe and Bent are a couple of decent examples. Bent's a hugely mixed bag but when he's confident and well managed I actually think he's a pretty good goal scorer and I've always rated Jermaine Defoe.
Simi Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Titus Bramble is absolutely dreadful. I don't see why people fall for the false hope Steve Bruce always gives him. He only does that because he knows he needs the confidence. You only need to watch MOTD to see how many errors he makes when he's under no sort of pressure. I don't think we're that badly represented at centre back yet, thankfully.

Depends on whether we adopt a Liverpool esk approach and play one up front with Stevie G in behind. Just to think - Sven spotted ages ago that 4-4-2 wasn't working anymore and went with a 4-5-1 against Northern Ireland. Sadly it didn't work on that evening (despite controlling a large share of the game, losing to a wonder goal from David Healey and coming up against an inspired Maik Taylor), he got slated (especially for playing Rooney on the left - but where does he spend most of his time for Utd), and the rest is history - however had we continued with it I wonder if we might have had more sucess, as we have the players for a 4-5-1 to work.

If you want to get the best out of Gerrard then the best formation to play is 4-2-3-1. 4-5-1 doesnt work because the wingers cannot support the lone striker enough and it doesnt work on the attack because 4-3-3 is just as useless. If you go with 4-2-3-1 then you are keeping the wingers in the positions that suit them best and you have Gerrard as the man to support the lone striker. If I was Capello and picking the team for the Qualifier then it would be - James Johnson Terry Ferdinand ColeBarry LampardSWP Gerrard YoungRooney

If Daniel Sturridge goes out on loan from Man City I believe he may well be given a chance next season. Josh Walker at Boro, looks a great prospect. Jack Collison at West Ham would have been a great shout, such a shame he chose to play for Wales so early, but being in the Welsh national first team already probably isn't such a bad thing for him at his age.

I like the kid, he looks like he'll have a future with us but he doesn't instantly strike me as someone you're going to spend the next ten years cursing his picking Wales. The born-and-bred Ramsey is the real young star of our midfield.
