maddog Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We are now 100% mathimatically guaranteed a playoff place even with 6 loses to finish off the season. I think everyone would have taken that at the beginning of the season for sure So our season could end with the title, promotion, or a playoff place.
Ultra Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 I suppose you'll be telling us next how much extra money we can make from a trip to Wembley..

I still want promotion. From the position we are in, play-offs to me would be seen as an epic fail.
maddog Posted 28 March 2009 Author Posted 28 March 2009 I still want promotion. From the position we are in, play-offs to me would be seen as an epic fail. It would be but a nice consolation if we did lose our last 6 games. But that will never happen. It's all pretty much down to whether Millwall and P'Boro pick up maximum points from all their games, and who wins between them when they play eachother. We have 15 points in 11 games, if we continued that poor form for 6 more games, we would get 8 points. Given us a total of 90. P'boro will have to get 13 points from their last 6 games to get 91. And Millwall have to get 19 points from 7 games to get 91. So lets assume Millwall and P'Boro draw with eachother, leaving Millwall needed 18 points from 6 games (So 6 wins out of 6) and P'Boro needing 12 points from 5 games, so 4 wins out of 5. So even if we continue our current shit form, Millwall and P'Boro will still pretty much have to take maximum points from all their remaining games to both go above us. And chances are they won't get enough points and our form will pick up anyway. So realistically promotion is in the bag. Unless we go on a 6 game losing streak.
davieG Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 I had a great bacon and sausage bap and a decent pint of beer in the Cherry Tree I stood behind Cobbo and Scoweh
Corky Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We got to stand on a terrace and didn't have stewards harrassing us.
Matt Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We got to stand on a terrace and didn't have stewards harrassing us. Shame we didn't get a chance to celebrate on the terrace.
Corky Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Shame we didn't get a chance to celebrate on the terrace. Never even looked like we would either <_<
davieG Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We had a mini surge late in the 2nd half when Gradel put in a cross - not sure what happened as it was impossible to see the goal line.
skinnydipper Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We'll still go up automatically Even if we do stumble over the line

I'm liking your analysis, it's almost made me cheerful for the first time in hours. Lets think Wolves. Had a terrible dip in Jan and Feb, but look to be coming through. So will we

Unfortunately there's no guarantee that we'll get the eight points you're assuming.

I think we will probably get more than 8 points, lets see what happens next Saturday, if we lose and P'Boro and Millwall win again i will be shitting myself. It would put us 1 point ahead of P'Boro and 3 points ahead of Millwall. And i fancy a win at Hereford but apart from that, the other 4 fixtures are all potential banana skins.
Simi Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 We had a mini surge late in the 2nd half when Gradel put in a cross - not sure what happened as it was impossible to see the goal line. I remember that, was gutted we didn't score. Would have been absolute carnage.
Corky Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 Today was even more frustrating because we normally raise ourselves for this type of match- Scunthorpe and Millwall especially, but we've also gone to Oldham and MK Dons and picked up points and played reasonably well. It is still in our hands, but we need to up the performance levels for the remaining six games. I don't think it's complacency, it could well be nerves, but we need two good, solid wins from the next two to re-ignite our season and see us to the line. Hopefully there will be a backlash next week
morris1234 Posted 28 March 2009 Posted 28 March 2009 one bloke who rang in after the game made an obvious but great point. peterborough have to win 2 more games than us to go above us from the games we have left. took me a while to process it, its so obvious its brilliant.

Alf Bentley Posted 29 March 2009 Posted 29 March 2009 Here are Sir Alf's odds: - Champions 60% - Runners-up: 35% - Promoted via play-offs: 1% - Another season in L1: 4% These views may change drastically within a week.. To be honest, I reckon the main effect of today's result may be to get the Poash up at the expense of that scum at the Den. I'd settle for that (particularly with the phoney MK club missing out, albeit with Dirty Leeds probably clinching the play-off place...)
