MC Prussian Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 How are you guys coping with the Bawlmore accent? Dominic West ain't doing too bad for an Englishman. Just getting to the end of Season One and I'd say it is the closest a TV series has ever come to real life. Very inspirational, but it takes two men (Simon & Burns) who know their shit to produce such quality storylines/characters. On a sidenote, David Simon can be fooking incredibly inspirational, just watch his conversation with Bill Moyers on YouTube.
James. Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 Season 2 is deifnitely underrated. First time I watched it I wasn't that fussed but watched it again and loved it. The way all the storylines intertwine is absolutely brilliant. I found the fake murders in Season 5 a little bit stupid and almost cried at how bluntly they finished Omar off . But that hardly makes it a bad season. Following on from the incredible season 4 was always going to be a tough task. I would highly recommend reading Homicide by David Simon. Probably the best piece of non-fiction I've read. Basically The Wire in real life, from the Po-lice point of view. Also got The Corner by him from the drug dealers point of view but haven't read that yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing Season 2 again, I think I'll appreciate it more second time round as well. When I saw the advert on FX the other day I felt a little shiver of excitement. It's pathetic
Finnegan Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 I agree that 5 is a bit unbelievable but I like it. The Omar point is fair but I took it as deliberate to make a point.
Ozwin Posted 29 March 2011 Posted 29 March 2011 I like season five, there's some decent characters in it and I think it concludes most things pretty well. I'd say it's better than season two, to be fair, though it's not one the best. The last episode has some brilliant moments. Oh, and having never read this thread before today, the very first time I saw Beadie Russel I had to rewind and watch it again because I thought it WAS Lisoh. I agree with you about season 2, I didn't like that one too much at all. That pasty little drug dealer guy needed a massive kick in the face.
MC Prussian Posted 30 March 2011 Posted 30 March 2011 Season Two's alright, dudes. They just do take their time to set everything up. And it's just nice to see all the same low-level cops under Daniels coming together for new cases, bonding along the way. Esprit de corps and whatnot. The most despicable character for me is that slimy Jewish gangsta lawyer, anyway. Oh, and: McNulty: "Can I have some eggs with that?" Waitress: "You can have anything you want." @ the following scene.
Finnegan Posted 31 March 2011 Posted 31 March 2011 The drunk driving McNulty scene in that ep is genius. Where he goes back and re-crashes his car to work out how he did it. Oh and the hooker three-some, haha. Oh, McNulty.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 31 March 2011 Posted 31 March 2011 Quite simply the greatest show ever made. Watched the first series on tv and have the other 4 series on dvd.
MC Prussian Posted 6 April 2011 Posted 6 April 2011 **** me, Marlo and his two ice-cold sidekicks Chris and Snoop are three of the most ruthless characters ever shown on television. Even Stephen King says so.
Ozwin Posted 6 April 2011 Posted 6 April 2011 Snoop is a girl Literally took me until one of the last episodes to figure this out.
MC Prussian Posted 6 April 2011 Posted 6 April 2011 Snoop is a girl Literally took me until one of the last episodes to figure this out. Haha, I've been using Wikipedia alongside watching the episodes and found out about this whilst browsing through the character descriptions. Snoop also has a very odd voice - apparently, it's got something to do with premature birth.
James. Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Snoop met Omar in a club in real life and he invited Snoop to the set which is how Snoop got involved. Apparently Snoop's a proper little gangster in the real world as well and if I remember correctly is now in prison. Here we go: On March 10, 2011, Pearson was arrested along with 60 others for alleged drug offenses. The arrest was made during a predawn raid at Pearson's home in Baltimore following a five-month DEA operation.
James. Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 How is referring to Snoop as "she" a "potential spoiler"..?!?!?
Finnegan Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 How is referring to Snoop as "she" a "potential spoiler"..?!?!? I thought that.
James. Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I think Prussian has a vendetta against me Snoop is a girl
James. Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 The irony is that far from being a "spoiler" knowing that Snoop is a girl actually ADDS to the overall experience and understanding of the series.
Finnegan Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 The irony is that far from being a "spoiler" knowing that Snoop is a girl actually ADDS to the overall experience and understanding of the series. Exactly. I think it was just Alex trying to be funny, to be fair. That old Teutonic sense of humour shining through! I'm not sure about Ozwin.
Alexikokopops Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Missed the first episode of the re-run on FX. Got it on series record from now on though. I will finally get round to watching this
Finnegan Posted 29 April 2011 Posted 29 April 2011 Just got given Generation Kill on DVD by my sister, who got me into the Wire. Anyone seen it?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 7 October 2011 Posted 7 October 2011 OK now i know i'm very very late but I had seen episodes here and there of the Wire but was always on at obscure hours. Got on to it about 6 weeks ago and now half way thru series 3. Great series so in depth and really worth all the hype easily the best drama series ever made. Just got given Generation Kill on DVD by my sister, who got me into the Wire. Anyone seen it? Yes, it's really good.
Finnegan Posted 7 October 2011 Posted 7 October 2011 Totally. Best war series I've seen in.. well, maybe ever. It's only a few episodes but I enjoyed it far more than I ever did Band of Brothers, to whom it's sort of a spiritual successor. The Iceman is beast.
welck12 Posted 7 October 2011 Posted 7 October 2011 The Wire boxset (all 5 series) is on sale in HMV for £49 if anyone doesnt own it
