I reckon he moves exactly the same now as he did then - it was just the headless chicken Hume and other assorted morons who failed to work with him, who all failed to work with each other because they thought the world shone out of their arses/that the manager would be replaced on a fortnightly basis.

Howard was in a team of individuals overseen by a bloke who was being undermined and losing faith in himself rapidly.

I don't buy that he was lazy.

Hume was the only player to get into double digits in the last 2 seasons despite how horrendous we were.

I'm not trying to get into another Hume debate, but all I'm saying is he did more good than bad for us, despite being labelled a headless chicken. Which I think is unfair as well, but that's beside the point.

Howard/Hume partnership would flourish a lot better than Howard/Fryatt.

With 44 goals between them this season, that's debateable.

A lot of Hume's goals were made from nothing- long-range strikes. Fryatt benefits from Howard flick-ons or pulling defenders away.

I was with you until that last line.

Don't you think Hume would have gotten 20+ in this division as well? I do.

And his overall game is also better than Fryatt, in my opinion.

Quite possibly.

I'm not sure. Hume does a lot of running, but Fryatt holds the ball up well and brings others into play.

I don't think Howard/Hume would have worked as well as Howard/Fryatt this season.

I agree to an extent that Hume was a better player overall but then I don't think he would have been as prolific a goalscorer. The physical presence of Howard has given Fryatt space to grab those poachers goals, not sure that would work the same way with Hume who was always prone (and more effective) to drop deeper as opposed to play on the shoulder of the defence.

I'm not sure a Hume/Howard partnership would work either, they both do their best work outside the box. Hume was forever standing outside the box when he should have been in the area and Howard doesn't exaclty bust a gut to get in the box once he's held the ball up and spread it out wide.

Fryatt's not perfect, but he is nearly always in and around the box and thats the sort of striker Howard needs alongside him.

Saying that though, I didn't think the Howard/Fryatt partnership would work either. I thought the lack of pace would be a problem, and still believe it will be next season if these 2 are still are chosen strikeforce.

Hume thought he was bigger than the team - quite simply, we would never have been the team we are this season if he was still here.

No. He never achieved it with Tranmere unlike Fryatt at Walsall.

He's never had a good goalscoring record.

Hume's a creator than a poacher. If he could be accomdated, you'd want him the hole.

Oh come on Lise, Howard was lazy and uninterested last season.

This year he's been much better, showing passion and commitment :)

His hat-trick at the Hawthorns showed that he did have the interest, passion and commitment. It was a great pity we didn't play to his strengths after that, after showing what he was capable of doing.

I wasn't there that day, my observations were made at the Scunthorpe, Colchester and Sheffield Wednesday matches , where I felt he could've shown more (he wasn't the only one, mind)

In any case, he has proved me wrong and I'm delighted to be proved wrong. I always wanted him to succeed, he's a cult hero-type figure, and with a manager that believes in him, could do a job next season should we go up :)

He was nearly headless after head butting Morgan's elbow.

yes. sometimes he'd drop so deep, it was almost as if he was playing on the right wing

I had a conversation with some mates a little while ago about the fact that every one of our outfield players (from our normal starting eleven) has scored this season. From memory, this was achieved before the start of the new year.

Gilbert and Hobbs didn't before New Year I don't think
