Stars on the Spot @ S****horpe

Martin Johnson, Muzzy Izzet and Austin Healey will be among the sports stars facing a spot check at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow night.

They will be taking part in a half-time penalty competition, organised by Steve Walsh and Legends UK.

County cricket skipper Paul Nixon and former City favourites Matt Elliott, Gerry Taggart, Carl Muggleton and Walsh himself will also be put on the spot for the challenge during the half-time interval of City's game with S****horpe.

The idea came about after discussions with Jimmy Semhi, director of EL Fencing Ltd, of Thurcaston.

Walsh said: "Jimmy is sponsoring Alan Birchenall's charity run for £1,000 so we thought it would be a good idea to have an extra event, such as a penalty shoot-out.

"We'll all be taking penalties – including Jimmy – against Carl Muggleton, although I'm not sure how mine will go as I'm suffering with a calf injury. Taggs is struggling too, but I reckon he can at least toe-poke one in."

Walsh remembers taking only one penalty for the City first team, at Tottenham, in September 1996. He said: "It was live on Sky but, unfortunately, it didn't count because the referee ruled that Ian Walker had saved it.

"Yet television replays suggested the ball had gone over the line before Walker scooped it out. I was disappointed, but at least we went on to win, Ian Marshall coming off the bench to score the winner."n

I thought it was a crossbar challenge?!

Birch said it was a penalty shoot out in the LCFC world vid. Maybe they had to change it from a crossbar challenge cos none of the buggers would hit it.

If they score it will be called a penalty shoot-out. If they hit the bar it will be re-classified as a cross-bar challenge.

Everyone's a winner.

Bit harsh Matt. He's not done it the second time round but no player ever does. He still gives 100% but the finishing touch and positional bit has gone missing in the last 3/4 years, at least he gives a shit. Dudley on the other hand....

Exactly.

He may not be the player most would like to take home to meet their Mum, but he cares about results...and stopped Steve being sent off.
