ashoverfox Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 As a foxile living in North Derbyshire and working for Chesterfield FC really looking forward to the pre season game. Great to see Chesterfield beat the sheep s******rs in the Derbyshire cup yesterday Derby not even champions of Derbyshire! A few things for anyone coming to the game. Its the last season at Saltergate and it really is a time warp it was used as a double for the baseball ground in the film The Damned United. The small stand on the right hand side of the ground from the away end the plastic seats were bought from Filbert Street for a pound each. The new assistant manager is none other than OOH TOMMY WRIGHT! he seems a really nice bloke and have managed to chat about the old days at Leicester. Finally anone who likes good beer should make for the Chesterfield Arms near the ground UP THE CITY !!!!!!
AjcW Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 I think I might go to the mansfield game. Only way I can get there is to national express it. If anyone else wants to know its 7 pound 60 pence return... that for the 1700 that gets in at 1830 and the return journey is 2230 to 2359
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Does anyone else find that our friendlies over the last two years have been rather poor? I mean the best team we are playing away from home is Shrewsbury a good league 2 side. And thats not even local. I think we should have a mixture of more local teams as well as good teams. I would have liked to have played Rushden and Kettering, two good Conference sides rather than the likes of Loughboro and Tamworth. We also could have played Northampton, not to far and they are on the same level as Shrewsbury and I would be certain they wouldn't decline the chance to play us. A good test for us would have been a team who had just been relegated from the Championship. The nearest of these being Norwich, OK not really close to us in location, but again I would ratehr be playing the likes of them instead of Kings Lynn. The Real friendly at home should be quite good though, and I think the club has got the ticket prices about right too.
Guest Posted 19 July 2009 Posted 19 July 2009 Does anyone else find that our friendlies over the last two years have been rather poor? I am more concerned with the team getting match fitness, not playing glamour ties, or potentially demoralising games.
Tilley Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 When do the main players get involved in the friendlies? About 7 days ago.
Bert Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Sappleton is shit. If anyone wants to give me a lift to Chesterfield, I will accept it.
Head Honcho Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Yeah. Didn't see the Shrewsbury thread Nice to know there's a few going though.
davieG Posted 24 July 2009 Author Posted 24 July 2009 Oadby Town added From OS City have added another fixture to their pre-season build-up with a City X1 travelling to Oadby Town on Wednesday, July 29, (7.45).
AjcW Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 So with various spanish sides pulling out of English fixtures(I believe valladolid have already pulled out of one), is there any threat to our friendly over "Swine Flu Fears". Almeria are the latest to pull out of their friendly with swansea according to ssn.

If I win tickets to the Ashes, then they can pull out. Otherwise it's scandalous.
Matt Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Didn't Inter Milan threaten to pull out with a friendly with us a few years ago? Due to fears of terrorism or something wasn't it? Was it Bolton who threatened legal action if they didn't come, so they sent pretty much a reserve team or something like that?
Hitesh Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 It will be pretty ridiculous if they do pull out for those reasons! The risk is global, not just UK so they are just as likely to get it over there than they are here. Given the current weather over here I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of Brits over in Spain anyway so it won't make a difference!
Edmund Posted 30 July 2009 Posted 30 July 2009 I see Real Valladolid are playing Ippy Town on Friday night. Two games in two days. Guessing it will be two different teams each half on sunday for them.
