People refer to Joachim as a successful player, but he wasn't really, was he? I mean, he had a few great games and goals for City, but then went to Villa and played a few mediocre games, and now plays for Kings Lynn in the non leagues. He's only about 34, and considering he was playing in the same England U-21s as Robbie Fowler, he disappointed massively.

Don't forget his gambling addictions, etc. would have all played a part.

Joachim could've been a great, he had a few injuries, but he didn't meet any expectations for him. To go from Villa to Boston United in 4 years is lousy.

We were very good mates at school, City of Leicester in the 80's. He had a bad attitude then as well, but you had to get to know him he was ok. He was always fighting at school with people in the years above him and getting sent off loads while playing for city boys. He was an animal on the pitch stamping and punching people when he could get away with it. But he was also awesone, had it all. Scored goals for fun.You having played with him also must rate him as one the best you've played with or against? I rememer only losing once or twice when he played in our school team he was that good in over 3/4 years. The last time I spoke to him hed just turned pro with Leicester city. I think he started smoking and getting involved with women, which didnt help his career. Like I said could'nt believe Joachim and Heskey (who I played with too at city boys) made it and Ian didnt. Talent wise he was way better than both of them. But like you say he had a very bad attitude problem and a bad upbringing which didnt help. Wheares Heskey and Joachim were willing to get their heads down and graft. I also think he may of been labeled a little bit lazy compared to those two. Its shame really thought he would go right to the very top. Do you now what happened to him after City?

I haven't spoken to Ian since he turned pro which was 16 years ago. The last I heard he had signed for Hinckley or Coalville (in the sporting blue) but that must have been 10 years ago at least. I used to play with Scott Eustace who made 1 sub appearance for Leicester. Technically not in the same league as Ian but still made a pro career at the lower level because he was much more open to coaching. It's a shame because you are right he could/should have been a star.

In regard to Kee, you can watch him playing aginst Chelsea. He scores the last two goals - even though the commentator refers to him as Hicks! Based on this video, he looks way better than Dickov and Bazza.

Yeah I played against Scott Eustace too, he was another big guy! think he was from Thurnby Lodge in those days. But your spot on about ability, Scott wasen't in the same ball park as Tommo yet he was another who got his head down and made a go of it. Ian Thompson is the biggest waste of natural talent I ve ever come accross, I truely think he could of achieved everything in the game, yet he achieved nothing.I hope this Billy Kee doesnt go the same way....nice talkining to you.

Joachim had a few seasons in the Premier League, and was Villa's top scorer for one of them. So he wasn't a complete failure, even if he ended up at Cov.

But he could have been as good as Fowler..

Perhaps we can let him go for about £50k compo with a 50% sell on clause should he make it in the future. If he doesn't want to be here then so be it but that way we would not miss out.

He can then feck off and live the dream of a league 2 footballer.

Some of the recent posts show attitude and off the field matters are very important (even if it is in lower divisions) and better players (at least initially) dropping down and out into obscurity, non-league, or no football at all.

We've seen some players under-achieve (nationally, not just leicester) not only through the temptations of partying too hard, drugs and gambling but other things too... like depression or mental health issues. I have no idea how clubs can check for these things and I guess it is only at higher levels with massive transfer fees at stake that clubs may invest in some 'unofficial' investigations.

Billy Kee - yawn.

Has a lot of strength, but is technically poor and has less pace than a gazelle with 1 leg. Could be a decent striker at League 2 standard, may even do well in League 1 if he pushes himself. Can't see him doing any better than that though in all honesty.

Bring back the reserves!

This is a great thread. It's an insight into our Club's indifference to the Academy.

It's an insight into how much time we all have on our hands.

But he's the best natural finisher since Louis Dodds.

Who was the best finisher since Lawrie Dudfield,

who was the best finisher since Tomi Petrescu,

who was the best finisher since Tommy Wright,

who was the best finisher since John Stevenson,

who was the best finisher since Stuart Wilson,

who was the best finisher since Sam Mcmahon,

who was the best finisher since Paul Bedder.

Repeat to fade.

I disagree. He isn't as slow as people are making out. At the training ground last Wednesday the lads did a 100m and 400m race. Billy came 4th out of 16 on the 100m and won the 400m. That speaks for itself unless our academy is full of gazelle's with half a leg??

Dreadful miss with the header.

It was a slick finish for his first... his strike partner, (Milne was it?) looked to have some skills and scored a cracking goal.
