Joe. Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 I personally think Hull will lose to Man Utd reserves, and Newcastle will get a point at Villa, meaning the Geordies stay up.
deepbluedevil Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 newcastle will get something against villa and hull will go down
flanimal Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 What would be nice is Hull losing, Newcastle think they are staying up with a 0-0 draw, Villa score in the last minute. I'm a nasty bastard ain't I?! This would be brilliant! If Hull go down, they'll be easier opposition making it easier for Leicester to win the league, so it's a win either way!
Ultra Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 After Sunderland's defeat at Portsmouth, it's still possible for Hull and Newcastle to stay up. You could get fairly decent odds on a win double for them, though.
Thracian Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 Newcastle please. I can't stand Shearer and I don't suppose Ferguson will want to help him either. Besides, nipper fancies a trip to St James Park although it never seemed like much fun in the days of Andy Cole. As for Hull, people say they would be easier opposition but it didn't seem very easy last time out. In fact Kaebi's presence helped make it as embarrassing a City perfomance as you'd ever witness. Eleven seagulls off the quayside would probably have made it a better game.
flanimal Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 Do you think Ferguson would deliberately field a poor team almost to guarantee defeat, and relegate Shearer? Y'know, for when he snubbed Ferguson for Newcastle.
Koke Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 Even though nothing would please more than to see that boring ugly whiney dirty disease infested match-of-the-day-fence-sitting-cunt suffer, I just think they will stay up by the skin of their teeth. For our own benefit, it would be better if Hull came down anyway as Newcastle would be a force. And most of us have been to St James' Park numerous times in the past - it doesn't really fill me with any great excitement to be perfectly honest. But hey, if Villa relegate them and make Shearer cry on TV then who am I to complain?

A man who played one and a half game for us in our relegation season. That's quite astonishing even for your standards.

We didn't play well in that home game but TBH i thought Hull were by far the best team i saw in the Championship at the Walkers last season. Their quick one touch/two touch passing along the floor was quality and they played with a real fast tempo throughout. We never got up for that game, even when Hendo saved a penalty, we still didn't get up for it. Hull were quality though, and i think they will be just as tough if not tougher than Newcastle. Newcastle will be everyones cup final, especially playing at their place, and they will lose a lot of players.

Tommeh Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 Hull away last season was made by the woman in the white coat. But my God we were shite, going mental and cheering like a goal after our first shot on target in the 85th minute summed it up. Got a feeling newcastle will survive got pretty much the perfect fixture away from their ok passionate but lets fact it dounting fans to one of the worst PL teams of these last few months. But we saw West Ham win at OT to stay up so you never know.
Ultra Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 He's referring to the away game I think. That was a fooking embarrassment You ain't kidding. We only took 300 fans, and that was more than the team deserved. Easy to forget, though, that both Sheehan and King "featured" in the side, as well as Kaebi.
flanimal Posted 19 May 2009 Posted 19 May 2009 To be fair, Newcastle is a shambles the way it's run, all the Geordies say so. And we haven't had any reason yet to think Shearer is half-decent manager - one win against Middlesbrough is hardly legendary. If they come down, lose half the squad, they could easily rot for a year.

I've said before and I'll say again that if Newcastle come down, they will become a financial disaster area of epic proportions, and will have to sell any player they can get a significant amount of money for. Under those circumstances, they could rot in the Championship for several years.
flanimal Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Bilo, I keep hearing that if Newcastle ended up in The Championship, that it would cripple the club - but how exactly? I understand they'd lose a lot of money from TV deals, and also that they'd lose a lot of players, but would the 50,000+ supporters and general wealth of the club keep it quite reasonable? They'd get parachute payments as well.

Zero shots on target until the 85th minute and we were completely out of our depth.

Obviously them being the biggest club in the Championship they have bigger resources than everyone else and they can attract players easily because of who they are. I don't think they will go into a freefall, but they won't piss the league either.

To be honest when Leeds went down to the Championship I was expecting them to piss the league but it wasn't to be. If Newcastle do sink into the Championship, i can see them finishing in the play-offs.
Corky Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Newcastle at home would have a real big match feel about it. Still believe they'll survive though, just.

You have to be able to sell the players to get the wages off the books, Newcastle would be stuck paying huge salaries to players that are only staying because no one else will pay them what they are on at St James' Ashley would probably not want to prop them up so admin would be a real threat.

Apparently none of the players have a relegation clause in their contract, so if Newcastle do go down then no one has to take the usual 25% wage decrease (or however much it is)
lavrentis Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 Where is Middlesborough? They will stay up. Southgate, the savour will pull them through.......you just wait until next season when they are fighting for europe.
