Where not to live?

Don't live anywhere near the district of Anfield in Liverpool, I was shocked at how run down and neglected it is around the football ground area.
Yep, pretty sure we walked down that road on the top picture. The area around Everton isn't as bad though. The City Centre is pretty cool though I have to say.

There were worse places than that when I went up there for Uni. I lived around the corner from Goodison, and although the house was done up nicely, the area was an absolute shithole. There was a chinese chippy on the Walton Breck Road, and I had a very nasty surprise when I opened up my bag of chips!!

Needless to say, I lasted barely two weeks in Liverpool....

thanks folks some very interesting comments.

It wasnt the 69 cup final that was the final straw...but close enough lol

Yes, Adelaide and Perth are beautiful cities and OZ is a fabulous place to bring up kids...clean, lowish crime rate..etc etc.. (mostly) and im sure that England is really struggling..but we get all the same whinging over here, jobs..immigrants (hilarious when you think that other than the aboriginals..EVERYONE here is an immigrant).

But...you do also have the luxury or Europe just an hour away...a thousand different cultures and places, It takes me 4 hours to fly to adelaide..which is exactly the same as Perth, and if i want a different culture...im looking at 20 hours on a plane

Plus you have the beauty and history of the UK...as opposed to 200 years of predominantly transplanted english history in OZ

and LCFC...dammit

If you are 20 and thinking about travel...grab it and go...im in my 40s and fighting the easy life of stay an be warm and comfortable with your life.

it might take me a year..but i will be back!

thanks everyone...your input is so valuable.

unless you're absolutely desperate too, i wouldn't bother coming back.

everything's too expensive and we're taxed to the hilt.

My wife is from Perth and spent many years in Adelaide, and the things she finds hard over here in Surrey are:

General grime.

Youth hanging around looking menacing.

Traffic traffic and more traffic - it makes everything seem like hard work.

Lack of sunshine - it can make you depressed.

The cultural angle is great, but frankly unless that is your day to day life it is less important than the things which make day to day life a pleasure. My advice would be to stick your stuff in storage, let your house for a year and come over for a working holiday - bum around Europe and the UK for a while then decide.

Places not live - Barrow and Sileby. Saying that me and Tevez have done alright.

I think someone said earlier that Rothley is alright if you need to commute as it is so close to the A46, M1, M69 and the A50 is hardly far. Nice place aswell bit of a rip off in the Chippy but its nicer than any other neighbouring villages.

And if you want to move to Liverpool then Aigburth is a nice area up there.

It's £5 for a bit of fish in the chippy round the corner. Now that's a rip off.

Come to the Isle of Wight! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_Wight

Warmer climate, hardly any frost, snowed once in 9 years, different types of beaches to suit your mood, amazing scenery, safer nightlife, kids can play outside safely etc

The only downsides are distance from The Walkers and the job market isn't exactly bouyant (but then where is?).

Its not all good to be fair, My Mum lives in Freshwater and has had no end of hassle from yobs outside and I wouldnt say my kids are any safer playing outside there than here. Unemployment seems to be very high in the area (as you mentioned) and drug use is bad too. We went for a drink once a few years ago and got set upon by a group of lads and girls for "not being Local" We stick to drinking in the house now lol. My Mum would move back to Leicester in a flash given the chance but her husband is IOW born and wont move. They dont live in a rough area as such but on the main road. I guess all places have their good and bad points though to be fair. We live across the road from The Saffron Lane estate and have never had any problems at all really. I think ul get Chavs and yobbos everywhere now. My in laws live in a pretty little Yorkshire vilage and they get more probs than we do.

I think its the same price in Rothley. Bag of chips is about £2.

My local chippy is getting better, since the new owners the quality of food has got better and isnt that bad pricing. Donor meat from there is a beaut.

We don't have any trouble from anyone where we live, probably because no one knows where it is. Actual Grantham on the other hand - jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

I like Liverpool more than London as a place.

That's more to do with London than Liverpool, though.

Also, Chicken donner? Its probably the only way of getting food poisoning quicker than a regular kebab.

And you are possibly the quickest way to sending me sleep instead of reading a regular book.

Tired of all this 'UK has had it' from people who probably only spent 2 weeks outside of it.

I have lived in many different countries over the past 10 years and now live 6 months in the UK and 6 months in the US. I can tell you that the UK is still one of the best places to live.

People moan about the poor economy, unemployment ,crime, etc....

The british economy has remained one of the most stable and prosperous around, unemployment still is low compared to other european countires, and yes crime levels are higher than they were but they are everywhere and we still has one of the lowest murder rates in the world.

Weathers shit though.

I used to pay £3.50 when I lived in Lincolnshire for fish AND chips, now it's £7 if I want that delight! JOKE

actually we are about 46 th according to this, but that may have more to do with our system of downgrading many to manslaughter

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_mur_...ders-per-capita

however our overall crime rate is one of the worst in the world at no. 6 ( probably less easy to massage)

http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_tot_...imes-per-capita

and we are a load of fat bastrads :D

Plus we lead the way on reported crime, lots of crimes (I have first hand knowledge) that happen in other countries dont even get documented, but they do in the UK.

But anyway ask any person on the streets of the UK who has a higher reported crime rate, the UK or Denmark,finland...I bet everyone would say the UK does.

Plus I have mentioned to people some of whom were thinking of moving to New Zealand that they have very high crime rates but wasnt believed, I know of one family (friend of my Aunty) who came back to england because of just that.

I'm not saying the UK is perfect, its far from that, but problems exist everywhere, the only reason I would consider staying in the US would be because of the ever increasing big brother nature that has developed within the UK.

Grass is not always greener.

Don't ever move to High Wycombe. The cost of living is HORRIFIC! I want to return to the Leicester area, but neither my wife nor my partner will hear of it.:cry:

You have a wife and a partner? Lucky for some.
