if you left Leicester 40 years ago , did you leave just before or just after the 1969 cup final , and did this have any influence on your emigration ?

Move to rural Lincolnshire and live a relaxed lifestyle.
Live in Lincolnshire. Wonderful county. There are many villages, towns and Lincoln itself is a great city

Tired of all this 'UK has had it' from people who probably only spent 2 weeks outside of it.

I have lived in many different countries over the past 10 years and now live 6 months in the UK and 6 months in the US. I can tell you that the UK is still one of the best places to live.

People moan about the poor economy, unemployment ,crime, etc....

The british economy has remained one of the most stable and prosperous around, unemployment still is low compared to other european countires, and yes crime levels are higher than they were but they are everywhere and we still has one of the lowest murder rates in the world.

Weathers shit though.

Agree with those sentiments, some people don't realise how fortunate they are to live here.

I would personally rather live in Leicester for the football but Basingstoke is an alright place to go  It is great if you have a job in London because it is pretty easy to get there by train and it is a pretty nice area too, got a new shopping centre in 2003 and a few things to do in the leisure park too, it is definately a better place than when I first moved down here in 2000 when it was simply a boring industrial craphole lol.

"Where not to live?" :dunno:

lol

Good point. I'd forgotten the title of this thread, every post in it seems to be bigging up a different town instead of putting them down.

Moss Side.

It is not nice, but you will come out being a touch harder than the just turned 18 year old that went in there.

Although you may not be 18.

Don't live anywhere near the district of Anfield in Liverpool, I was shocked at how run down and neglected it is around the football ground area.

Shocking ain't it, I had to go to a shop there last year, went about 3 times and it was shocking, really does give the stereotype of Liverpool some substance, It's abit better in the city not much though.

Went down a few streets, every house was boarded up. Shocking.

Then I went round the corner and saw flag and banners saying "European City of culture" :|:crylaugh:

Yep, pretty sure we walked down that road on the top picture. The area around Everton isn't as bad though. The City Centre is pretty cool though I have to say.

I went to Goodison Park once with a mate who is a Reading fan and I was surprised that people would be stupid enough to paint their houses something like blue, they look dreadful!

Abit of a Shithole tbh!

If a place is so generic that being just under an hour from London is the nicest thing you can say about it, its rubbish. Also, having a generic shopping centre dropped like some sort of 60s vision of the future onto the entire centre of a town is rubbish, an Odeon in a big car-park, merely bland. Its not that I've really anything bad to say about Basingstoke, there's just nothing to say at all.

In terms of the "why am I bleeding?" types of places - Moss Side in Manchester, Lozells in Birmingham, St.Anns and The Meadows in Nottingham are the ones that pretty much anyone could tell you. The cities as a whole, are fine, though.

Around Leicestershire, I wouldn't really want to move back to Shepshed. Its not that bad in the scheme of things, but other than a small number of people there (and a fairly small percentage), there's nothing good about it. In Loughborough, Shelthorpe can be a bit grim.

Cardiff is a nice place to live.

For other sites to look at, I've been looking on rightmove.co.uk, whch seems quite good

thanks folks some very interesting comments.

It wasnt the 69 cup final that was the final straw...but close enough lol

Yes, Adelaide and Perth are beautiful cities and OZ is a fabulous place to bring up kids...clean, lowish crime rate..etc etc.. (mostly) and im sure that England is really struggling..but we get all the same whinging over here, jobs..immigrants (hilarious when you think that other than the aboriginals..EVERYONE here is an immigrant).

But...you do also have the luxury or Europe just an hour away...a thousand different cultures and places, It takes me 4 hours to fly to adelaide..which is exactly the same as Perth, and if i want a different culture...im looking at 20 hours on a plane

Plus you have the beauty and history of the UK...as opposed to 200 years of predominantly transplanted english history in OZ

and LCFC...dammit

If you are 20 and thinking about travel...grab it and go...im in my 40s and fighting the easy life of stay an be warm and comfortable with your life.

it might take me a year..but i will be back!

thanks everyone...your input is so valuable.
