Kilworthfox Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 I bought the O'Neill Legend DVD from e-bay the other week and I would like to add that it is a very cheering 74 minutes. It will bring back many memories from the 4+ years during the period that he was in charge, with a selection of some excellent goals. Although I actually don't like MON that much, the years in which he was in charge were uncountably very successful on an LCFC scale. What struck me from watching the DVD was that it was not just the ability of the players which made us such a difficult opponent, but the spirit in which our players at the time played the game. I remember when we introduced the slightly tacky "Foxes Never Quit" slogan above the inside of the tunnel. This slogan although tacky IMO was very apt, I hope in years to come we can have a side with not necessarily the same amount of ability (lets not be greedy) but with similarly such big hearts for our club. Well worth a watch.

Matt Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Bought it a few weeks ago along with the Season DVD. It's Brilliant. Brought a few tears to the eye.

Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 You don't like MON?!?!?!!??! If it was up to me this would me closed for that!
Father Ted Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 How can you not like MON?? Oh I forgot that you're a Derby fan
Scow Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 I watched this in a fairly drunken state/mess, and from what I can remember, twas very good. Well worth purchasing.

BoneDog Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 How can folk not like MON?! He gave us the glory. Plus he turned down a few job offers to stay at Leicester that a lesser man would of taken (like Megson). If it weren't for Martin we would probably not have been a Premier League force to be reckoned with for a good few years. Please tell me the reasons for not liking him. I gonna get this dvd, never knew it was out there

I think I'll purchase this.
Kilworthfox Posted 4 July 2009 Author Posted 4 July 2009 I'm sure Kilworth and Webbo don't mean him as a manager, more as a person. I may be wrong though.I think I'll purchase this. Na fu ck it just do me n Webbo an internet stoning As a manager he was and still is excellent, & gave LCFC our best recent years! As a person I don't think I could stand longer than 5 minutes, I remember when he was on the BBC for world cups when he was our manager, he just said ridiculous stuff. Also He did leave after we agreed to get a new stadium which he insisted upon, then he buggered off. Edit to suggest that the DVD is quite goo too
Koke Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 I remember in the 2006 World Cup, O'Neill was a pundit on BBC and he said he didn't want Ibrahimovic in his team because he "was not a hard worker" or something ridiculously along those lines. Great manager, but I agree with Kilworth, I don't think I could spend 5 minutes with him.

What is happening on this forum? It is turning into a smaller version of WACCOE
DeclanMC Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 I always thought martin o'neill was a great bloke, my dad wrote a letter to him wishing him all the best at celtic, and got a handwritten response back! Then again, people will say anything to provoke a response.
Webbo Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 As a manager MON gave me my best years as a city fan. Days like we'll probably never see again. I just didn't like him as a person. Apart from his rather embarrassing punditry I always thought he was a bit of a prima donna.Apart from the fact that he kept harping on about the way that some fans (not me) wanted him sacked after 3 matches I didn't like the way whenever he was linked with another job he never distanced himself from the speculation or said he was happy here. He had the board by the short and curlies and never let them forget it. The incident with the mobile phones at the training ground was so petty it was pathetic. That's why I dislike O'Neil, nothing to do with football. It's just a personal view. If people disagree then fair enough.

Na fu ck em, just because it is popular to spill your man juices at the mere mention of MON, does not mean you have to be a sheep and go with the mass. If you do go against the grain then it is pre decided that you are just saying such things because you want to stir up controversy! Well hows about I was suggesting that the DVD I recently purchased was very good even if as a man I would not like to be in MON's company for too long as I found him irritating!

I go against the grain constantly, but not to stir up controversy, only because 'the grain' are usually wrong.

Then again, people will say anything to provoke a response. You're correct, he is a great bloke. He gets respect off 99% of his players and there is a reason for that. Some folk are just far better men and wouldn't give him the time of day.

Leicester fans dis-liking O'Neill is the strangest thing I've ever heard, and I've heard some wierd shit. And the reasons are even more confusing!
Ultra Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 There's no great mystery. He walked out on us, even if he did have reasons. Some fans have still to forgive him.
Corky Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 There's no great mystery. He walked out on us, even if he did have reasons. Some fans have still to forgive him. But he went to a much bigger club with European football every season. It's a shame he left when he did but it was only a matter of time.
Webbo Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 There's no great mystery. He walked out on us, even if he did have reasons. Some fans have still to forgive him. Nothing to forgive, in fact I was relieved in the end that we wouldn't keep having begging him to stay everytime he was linked with another club. Leicester fans dis-liking O'Neill is the strangest thing I've ever heard, and I've heard some wierd shit. And the reasons are even more confusing! Ok, how about this, 'O'Neil was a CIA stooge trying to discredit peace loving Islamic terrorists.
