DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Yes i agree with what you say,but the likes of Wigan,Blackburn,Boton,Hull, have not done to badly with modest budgets by prem standards. My brother in law, a Leeds fan, suggested we change our name from "Foxes", to "Paupers". Maybe he's got a point.

Guest shearfox Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 We wasted a lot of cash on managers who didn't know what the hell they were doing, for how much Pearson has had to spend he has done a far better job in the market... Maybe sometimes it is best to invest wisely rather than just throwing money around. We need to steady the ship and Pearson is starting to do that by getting rid of the deadwood and bringing in hungry players who want to play for this club and aren't there for just the cash.
MC Prussian Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Yes i agree with what you say,but the likes of Wigan,Blackburn,Boton,Hull, have not done to badly with modest budgets by prem standards. True that. Wigan - grey mouse of the Prem. What it is that is keeping them on that level, I don't know. Never really move a lot. Bolton I start to fancy a little bit, just because of the way they team is gelling together. Blackburn is still munching on that 90ies glory and could do a Newcastle this season. Hull - well, it's Hull. The first season's up there's always an adventure and they survived the drop with some luck involved (their form in the second half of last season was appalling, wasn't it?). There's always a chance and opportunity to make it in the Premier League. What I like about our one-year League One adventure is the fact that it has taught some fans to eat more humble pie. I remember the ecstasy (and also the illusions) of an immediate return to the top flight in the post-MA era. As soon as we had a taste of it, the desire simply wouldn't disappear and the high hopes too often turned into hefty demands by the fans. We were once there, so we had the god-given right (and bloody duty) to get back there ASAP. We have the chance of a fresh start now with a solid ground, in terms of finances (sic!), squad and fans' attitude, and I (cautiously) think the chance is here for a taking. But beware. I've heard of silver linings on the horizon dissolving rather rapidly.
Budweiser Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Yep Bert confirmed DJ was on 20k at least.... I was stunned Your having a fooking laugh, please tell me this is a wind up
clare Posted 12 August 2009 Posted 12 August 2009 The club made losses of £14M last financial year, so I never thought that we were going to splash the cash.

Jon the Hat Posted 13 August 2009 Posted 13 August 2009 Some people seem to think clubs can just get rid of players withouth paying up their contracts. Not the case. We would be worse off getting rid of Clemence, Dickov and DJ if that means paying them to go away. As no one is going to pay their wages, the best we can hope for is that someone want to pay some of DJ's wages on loan. Dickov and Clem are not going anywhere.
Chrysalis Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 I warned this forum we are not a rich club at the time we sold hume and stearman on the back of massive losses. When MM came we were losing over 7million a year, and that was before he brought in DJ, howard, clemence etc. For his first 2 years he put in 4.5mill of cash each of those years, I guess with some loans on top. The relegation season which I believe included paying off 2 managers we lost 14 million, no idea if it included the sales of hume etc. I think it didnt but cant be sure. MM is worth about 75million, there is no way he is going to be putting in 14million a season. I suspect we still losing money now and hes putting in a few million anyway but he will be trying to keep the losses manageable and hoping for the best from pearson.

I expect the sale of Mattock indicates some of this as well - not knowing exactly how much we got for him (bloody undisclosed - that should be banned!) I would hazzard a guess that this would balance out our purchases. (Has the N'Guissian tribunal gone through yet - if not, his two goals hasn't helped has it! Thought he looked decent in the first half yesterday too, busy, bustling and a handful - didn't get as much of the ball though second half and fadded.) There are always places where you can improve, but if you try doing it all at once that tends to be where you fall flat on your face. It makes a change that we have some of the same personel as the previous season. I remember the times when come the start of the new season he had signed a completely new side (3 seasons running!) but come Christmas everyone realised that the names may have changed but they were still as useless. The only good this policy ever did was give me plenty of choice for passwords at work!

N'Gussan's fee has been agreed without going to a tribunal, undisclosed but Lincoln sources reckon it's nearer the £400k they wanted.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 16 August 2009 Author Posted 16 August 2009 They need some cash quick because as we stand at the minute i can see the same happing this season as the last time we were in the ccc there is going to be a lack of goals,IMO i still dont think MF is going to get nothing like he did last season as for SH i think he will struggle again season. Its ok having a good defence but if we do not score goals we will not win matches my 2 sons went ipswich yesterday Howard missed a couple of sitters and MF was not at the races.
Salieri Posted 16 August 2009 Posted 16 August 2009 Jeez, i'd hate to see some peoples reactions if we'd actually got off to a bad start.

Just because NP was suprised by the sale and request, doesn't mean it wasn't 'planned' - could the phone call at the friendly been started by MM???

Early days yet. If Howard and Fryatt are still not off the mark in the league by the end of the month, then that will be the time to worry..

Yes i agree with that, but if you are going to make an impact on this season you have to get some wins under your belt early on and tomorrow night does not look like a 3 pointer.
