Sniffer-Clarke Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 NP admits today in the mercury he has not been able to compete in the transfer market for certain players and also states leroy lita wages was behond him-so much for a wealthy owner who was going to take us to the promised land in 3 years
Foxhateram Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 NP admits today in the mercury he has not been able to compete in the transfer market for certain players and also states leroy lita wages was behond him-so much for a wealthy owner who was going to take us to the promised land in 3 years Tbh things have changed in the economic climate since MM told us that. Most clubs have real problems atm due to the recession, now just isn't the time to gamble with your money. I don't blame MM for keeping his wallet shut. I think we were relying on shipping DJ out before we signed anyone "proven" but the waste of space hasn't gone so what can you do.
DanTheFox07 Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 By the time mandaric spends a decent amount of money, there will be moth`s flying out of his wallet!
grth2004 Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 considering we are in debt , and the memorys of administration a few years ago im glad we are not spending stupid money , id rather have a mid table club that is in fairly good shape than a league one club in administration
Burnsy Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 I think youll find the club will be put up for sale if promotion is'nt acheived this season. Also theres a 10 k wage cap so we wont get the likes of leroy lita and simon cox who wanted 18 k and is now getting that at west brom.

I would imagine the goals against this year is going to be good, but its the goals for which worries me
MPH Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 this story by NP was conveniently released at the same time its announced we will be having a shirt sponsor after all.. dont fall for it, folks...
smudger63 Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 Milan just says what the fans want to hear, cos he likes the adulation, dont fall for all his spin, i dont!
purpleronnie Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 True, the pompey fans were happy to get rid of him and warned us not to get too excited.
Samilktray Posted 8 August 2009 Posted 8 August 2009 True, the pompey fans were happy to get rid of him and warned us not to get too excited. Yeah I bet they were well happy looking at them now.
grth2004 Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I take your point which is good one,but you cannot or less your very lucky to get into the premiership without proper investment i dont like to see the club throwing money away but it does saddend me when we cant compete for £2mil strikers and we have to go cap-in-hand to other clubs for loans.I would imagine the goals against this year is going to be good, but its the goals for which worries me fair points im just glad we have people in charge that dont spend money we havent got , maybe and hopefully we will get somebody buying the club whos got more money to spend but until then we are probaly mid table spending team who with some luck with the players we buy can get into the play offs.
CupidStunt Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 I'd put it in to context in what NP actually said, I thought he said he couldn't compete against the teams that had been relegated due to them getting parachute payments. These parachute payments imo are a bit of a joke in some respect, teams come down, of dear what a shitter, but never-mind, here's a few extra million quid more than the other championships teams to help get you straight back up, ta very much. Maybe the teams that get the extra dosh shouldnt be allowed to buy new players with it
Jon the Hat Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 You have to time your investments carefully if you want to get the best return. We would have to spend maybe £20M to have a team of the quality to expect to be in the promotion places, and even then we would be lucky to go up in the next 2 seasons. Hence this is not the time to go out and spend say £5M on players, because we would still be in the Championship having spent it. Milan and Nigel are taking a pragmatic approach, buying players with potential and developing them. With a bit of luck and a following wind in a season or three we will have a squad which we can throw that £5M at and be in with a shot of promotion. Of course we might also have a new owner etc, but these things happen..

Mandaric has never spent a lot of money, whether here or at Pompey. he's a tight arse, who has used us to back into the limelight.

Maybe the teams that get the extra dosh shouldnt be allowed to buy new players with it exactly. the parachute payments are there to cover loss of earnings from relegation and debts caused by relegation but clubs rarely actually use it this way because they know that if they spend it on new players they've supposedly got a better chance of getting back up and the money from promotion will cover any debts they've collected in their spell in the CCC.
meadwell5 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 This might explain problems with getting additional players in Dickov = 5k per week Dj = 8k + per week Clemence = 8k + per week Total = 21k IMO could get two or more quality players in with that. (this are not know wages, but guessed from what has been put on Talk)

meadwell5 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Clemence and DJ are supposed to be on 5-figure wages are they not? Like i said ' guessed from what been put on talk' believed to be more 'correct' but thought id say less rather than more as dont want to be shot down like normal with any post on this forum
FoxesFan123 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Getting rid of the trio of 'Dickov, Dj and Clem' would really free up some cash for new players. They're nowhere near first team players as well and probably our biggest earners.

lou Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 Clemence and DJ are supposed to be on 5-figure wages are they not? Yep Bert confirmed DJ was on 20k at least.... I was stunned

Sniffer, I'd rather have us gain stability in the Championship than doing another Micky Adams with strained financial possibilities. Granted, 2009 is not 2002 (d'oh!), but let's first take a look at how Premier League New Boys Birmingham, Burnley and Wolverhampton are doing this season before expecting OUR team having to get there ASAP, as well. The gap between those two leagues can be frightening at times and you need at least some (financial) basis before you dare to take that massive leap forward. And I'm not denying it. Yes, I'd love to see Leicester back in the Prem. With caution.
kam6 Posted 10 August 2009 Posted 10 August 2009 If he hasnt got the cash to splash, i still think that he should loan ot DJ, get rid of dikov and sign Jan Ven of Hes, hes still on a free
