Macclesfield Player Ratings.

Weale 6 - Nothing to do really, good kicking.

O'Neill 7 - Impressive, got really well stuck and supported the attack well.

Powell 7 - Just a legend, in a youthful defence he was always talking, and played his part in the clean sheet.

Hobbs 7 - £400k is an absolute bargain, reads the game very well and is strong in most areas.

Morrison 6 - Got caught out a few times, but still did ok.

N'Guessan 6 - Hit and miss, but got us off the mark with a cheeky back-heel.

Adams 8 - On fire at the minute. Very positive and hard working, can use both feet and isn't scared to get stuck in.

Wellens 7 - Fantastic ball retention, rarely wasted the ball tonight and is just generally a busybody.

Oakley 7 - Worked very hard, chasing down a few lost causes and covered a lot of ground tonight.

Howard 7 - Here, there and everywhere. Won everything, whether it was with his head, chest, knee or feet. Created so much space for others and really deserved a goal after a great run and shot.

Fryatt 6 - The goal, which was a fantastic finish will do him the world of good, much better performance than Saturday from Fryatt.

Gradel 6 - Put a few decent balls in the box.

Waghorn 6 - Not as electric as Saturday, but his enthusiasm for the game and excellent close ball control seen him make 2 defenders look like total mugs.

Weale 6 (Stretched to divert one potentially dngerous cross to safety but otherwise largely redundant. I'm just not yet convinced about his ability to dominate his six-yard box when the aerial stuff comes in, but we'll see).

Luke O'Neill 7.25 (Assured and involved at right back he delivered a steady flow of mostly far post crosses while ensuring that N'Guessan had both back-up and a plentiful supply of the ball).

Powell 7.25 (Craftsmanship in action, both as defender and attacker. Barely put a foot wrong).

Hobbs 7.25 (Another authoritative display)

Morrison 6.5 (City's defensive organisation was too much for acclesfield to threaten and Morrison played a solid part).

N'Guessan 6.75 (Another goal, this time a speculative close-range back-heel and what a bonus it is for us to have goalscoring wingers. Well involved generally though many moments of promise ended in frustration).

Adams 8 (What a contrast to the inconsequential little-boy-lost of yesteryear. The lad was like footballing phosphorous - all action and efforvescence and Macclesfield had no answer to the guy)

Wellens 7 (Kingy's got a real challenge for his place this season because, once again, Wellens showed himself to be such a constructive and capable workhorse in midfield.

Oakley 7 (Decent shift for the skipper seeing to all the simple things and maintaining our momentum).

Howard 7.5 (Won almost every challenge, provided the flick-on leading to N'Guessan's goal and might have had two goals in two or three minutes with a shot on the run that was turned around a post and a far-post header which he sadly misdirected when so well plced to score).

Fryatt 6 (Netted an angled shot after it seemed he'd lost the chance by giving the home defence chance to recover. Still below his best though).

Subs:

Gradel 6 (Well supplied with passes, he started falteringly but gradually improved to deliver some reasonable crosses into the box).

Waghorn 6.5 (Might have scored given chance to lob the stranded home goalkeeper but sadly the ball went wide. His busy contribution ensured Macclesfield's defenders were kept under near constant pressure.)

What a fantastic description.

Weale 6 - Never really threatened, was solid when required.

Powell 8 - Very good performance, strong at the back and even went on the offensive on a few occasions.

Hobbs 7 - Very strong display, was just completely solid.

Morrison 7 - Same as Hobbs.

O'Neill 7 - Looked composed and confident, and I can't remember him making any mistakes. Looks a fantastic young player.

Adams 8 - My MOTM. Some fantastic link up play, put some very decent balls into the box. Caused serious problems for the Macclesfield defence.

Wellens 7 - Another strong confident performance, and some good linkup play at times.

Oakley 7 - Same as Wellens really, the midfield as a whole was very strong.

N'Guessan 7 - Knows L2 better than most in the squad, and had a decent game. Did well for the goal as well, very cheeky :D

Howard 8 - Thought he played a blinder, battled hard for everything, and often tried to play others in. Really wanted him to score from that mazy run. He looked desperate to score and deserved to do so.

Fryatt 7 - Had a good game, still seems a little off the pace for me. Fantastic strike for the goal, and the 75 or so minutes he played will be a massive benefit for him.

Subs:

Gradel 6 - Originally hoped he would start, but had a slight effect coming off the bench. Some great balls into the box.

Waghorn 7 - Looked energetic again when he came on, had a decent chance with the lob but couldn't put it on target. Looks a great player though.

He always seemed second best when compared to his Wales U21 colleague - what's happened to him? I don't recognise this Adams.

Is Adams basically a slightly shit Joe Cole? Not quite hit the same level of poetry as Thracian's description but that's what it seems to me from Saturday's game and uhhh, the highlights.
