Was a good game last night but Celtic made it abit to easy for Arsenal at times because of how deep the defence was, this let players like Denilson, Diaby and Song play the balls in behind when they had the chance. Highlight of the night was seeing Arshavin score and he took it bloody well good aswell, such a quick turn. Was impressed with my two favourite Celtic players aswell, Scott Brown ran his bollocks off and Aido McGeady was a threat.

Defender didn't see it coming at all.

Stay in the Scottish league Exactly, the penalty made no difference and calls for Eduardo to be punished are stupid. How many players would the officals have to go back and punish? The goal made no difference to the tie and Arsenal were always going to come through victorious. They treated it like a training game.

I distinctly remember Morten Gamst Pedersen, at the Emirates, in the penalty area, turning around to see Eboue a few yards behind him, and then falling over looking for a penalty. I don't beleive he got 'charged'. And there are plenty of other times where other players, such as Ronaldo or Drogba, have dived and nothing came there way.

Well, obviously you're going to have have to draw a line under all previous incidents of cheating in the game, and make this case a precedent. Anything which seeks to stamp out the cheats who blight the game is a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned. Good on UEFA.

What about all the people that have dived since then? The problem this time is this game is a lot more high profile. Are UEFA going to inflict a 2 match ban every time someone dives? It just seems like a very crude way of dealing with the issue and is ultimately just UEFA bowing to pressure from the media and the Scottish FA. I hate diving, sometimes it almost puts me off watching football altogether, but UEFA's simplistic approach won't really solve anything.

Ah, OK, only skim read the article so didn't read that bit. Yes, it is a very blunt way of dealing with the situation, but I don't really see any alternative ways of eradicating it from the game. Sure, it may get to the point of daft in a few weeks/months when a seemingly ridiculous amount of people have been banned on whatever, but I think that taking a hard line such as this is the best chance the governing bodies have to kick diving out of football.

Hmm... wonder how much media dwelling on that 'pen' there would have been if it had been young Theo doing the simulation tango. English players don't cheat of course <_< And they don't maim either, at least not DELIBERATELY. I recall the UK's media wall of moral silence surrounding one of the worst 'challenges' ever perpetrated in The Premiership. The victim's coach was villified for suggesting that the ENGLISH perpetrator should be banned for life. Conversely, his opposite number was lionised for stating that the culprit was as much a victim as the hapless genuis whose leg he had nearly severed. The culprit's pilgrimage to the local hospital to apologise to the near amputee was reported widely in the UK media. What they didn't report at the time and what dribbled out months later (when all the ballyhoo had died down) was that the culprit had concocted the entire story of his bedside repentence - he never even went near the hospital. Despite protests from FIFA, the culprit received no more than a three match ban. A former coach of the player said he should not have even been booked for the incident. The form of the victim's team, leading the table at the time, fell away completely. The media's scapegoat for this became the captain who protested a late penalty awarded in the game in which his team mate had been mutilated. Senhor Eduardo da Silva has had to learn the hard way that the universal article of faith that the Anglo Saxon media is fair, impartial and campaigning is a polo mint of a myth (ie hollow).

Obviously that won't happen so this is just some cheap arse PR exercise.

However, he was later furious that the ball wasn't kicked out when Evra was injured. Hypocrisy? I think so.
