Missing Your Football this weekend!

What do these people taking action against the club on matchdays expect?? Do they expect to have deserted roads?!

Ridiculous.

Dont buy a house near a football training ground is my answer lol! Of course some of them were there before the ground I suppose but not any that I know of!

It never bothered me really but its very annoying when some pratt blocks your driveway which they frequently do and they park anywhere - on the corners included and someones kid got hit by a car a couple of years back as the visibility is so bad when they do that. They do speed out the entrance at a ridiculous pace too (players included) but I know a lot of the residents on Middlesex Road where the entrance is and I havent heard of anyone taking action. Would be interested to know more about it.

The benefits of having 1st team footballs coming over the garden which my Son used to get a tenner for taking back far outweighed the parking issues. We kept the Jamaican squad ball that came over though :D

The amount of money that he has got from that could determine how bad we are in training shooting-wise :P

Apparently the City Council is involved with Leicester City in trying to curb parking in the streets around the training ground. What is the world coming to?

As far as I'm aware people buy their houses not the streets outside. We've all had to put up with changes over the years.

In my area authorities changed the road from a cul-de-sac to a through road with all the noise intrusion that has meant.

And later changes to the local church and its car parking mean I have to put up with the congregation parking outside my house every Sunday but still the district council condoned the plans so they can't give a toss for the consequences, can they?

Indeed it's ironic that the aresholes who serve as local politicians in Leicester and Leicestershire should object to the building shop/living quarters on a little private land because of concerns over increased traffic in a so-called residential area but happily condone the building of a hotel barely 200 yards away plus massive housing estates virtually across the road. But then hypocrisy and politics seem to be inseparable.

The use of Belvoir Drive as a training ground has been long established and why the people of that area should feel they have the right to never be disturbed while all the rest of us don't I don't know.

It is like residents of villages and hamlets complaining about wind farms or expansive development as if they have the right to perpetual peace and quiet while everyone in towns or cities can suffer more and more disturbance with ever increasing development.

Of course there's a balance to be found but low-key football matches once a fortnight for part of the year hardly strike me as unreasonable especially as the training facility has been there longer than a lot of the residents. But then again nothing surprises me about the reaction of Leicester City council to anything.

It's much worse than that Thrac - this was posted by knowitall.

Do not be surprised if you can not get into the training ground! Moves are afoot to ban people from the training ground. Not only while the first team are there but 24/7. Leicester City are not too pleased with parents and fans behavior. Also the local houses in the area are talking about taking Leicester City to Court over the increase traffic at the weekends. The training ground is to have automatic gates and CTTV cameras which will only allow certain people in.

Maybe all the fans should have a mass meeting at Belvoir Drive to show them what "disturbance" can really be like. :D

And who are the complainants anyway? People who were born and bred in Leicester or incomers who have no connection with the City at all and no time for the things that longstanding residents have grown up with and are more than happy to support and feel a part of? Are their feelings to be ignored?

Indeed is there a single member of this forum who lives near Belvoir Drive and supports the residents' action?

The sceptic in me wonders if there's a hidden agenda?

Like providing an excuse to replace the Belvoir Drive training facility with a lucrative housing development which would benefit both the club (presumably) and the City Council (in terms of rates) and thus enabling City to build a new facility (already mentioned in these columns some months ago).

Who is driving the so-called residents action and why has it taken so many years to take off?.

Because I know first hand how devious determined people can be when it comes to manipulating events for their own ends.

Ive just spoken to my Sister who lives 3 houses down from the entrance to the training ground.. she and none of her neighbours know anything about any action about street parking. There used to be regular residents meetings at the ground to discuss any problems.. I used to attend when I lived there too but she hasnt been informed of any for a few years. Ive got several friends who live on the same street so will ask them too.

Like I said we all had leaflets through our doors asking about a proposed residents parking scheme on certain roads in Aylestone due to the parking for Cricket and football but I dont know a single resident and neither does my Sis who has complained about the issue.

They are more concerned about the rumours of the training ground moving and the land being developed for Social Housing.

I couldnt give a toss about people parking outside my house..... some of my neighbours never stop moaning about it but I always say if youre that bothered about it then buy a house with offroad parking!

Thanks Lou. Pretty much confirms what I thought about the views of residents. I've parked down there lots of times for Academy matches and if there was a groundswell of resentment I'd expect to see residents in their gardens waiting to pounce on offending motorists. It's never been the case at all.

The impression I've got from the few I've spoken to is that they quite like having the training ground nearby.

Meadow Lane was the place to be this afternoon.

Two very decent goals and a good atmosphere.

Quality.

Wrong. MK was the place to be this afternoon. Average first half then a very entertaining 2nd.

Nearly went to Notts C glad I didnt now!

Completely skinned their right back.

Then cobbed up lots of crosses.

Despite having County in a accum., couldn't help but want Burton get an equaliser with the worshiping of Hughes. Brilliant to see Branston send him flying.

As for banning public and parents from training ground, that's not any different from the Big 4 sides.

I used to live backing onto the training ground (til I moved a couple of streets away) and my Sister still does. Yes the parking is a pain when theyres a game on but Ive not heard of anyone taking action and cant see how they could to be honest? I wouldnt have thought its a court issue but youd probably know more about that than I would! Im a mere local lol A residents parking scheme is being discussed in the Saffron Lane/Aylestone area I understand (Ultra may know more?) we had a leaflet through asking for our opinion. Id have thougth this could have solved the problem with parking.

I don't know more as it isn't my area. But I'll find out and report back.

I'm not sure, though, whether this has anything to do with what Knowitall was on about - which seems to be an action taken purely by the club.

No one wants to see the training ground closed to fans and a lot of the neighbouring houses kids go and watch games, get autographs from players etc. I heard they were probably moving it and selling the land off anyway?

There was some talk a while back about relocating to Loughborough Uni - not sure if anything's come of that..

Id be pretty disgusted if they do this banning spectators thing.

You wouldn't be on your own. Such an action would be petty and self-defeating..

I was categorically told that Leicester City Council were involved.

I was born around the corner from the training ground, obviously there wasn't the issue with parking back then as there is now. Used to be able to go down and watch them train all the time.

Myself and Fez watched the first half and then went when it was 3-0, was pleased to hear they won 5-0 though. We looked pretty solid and Norwich never really got a look in. Parks is an absolute beast as well!

I am indeed, I was born on Belvior Drive East and lived there for about 8 years. It was lovely to drive past all my old haunts again yesterday.
