C-man Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Is it just me or has Leicester become pound-for-pound Roadwork champion? Everywhere I drive in the City I'm hounded by them. The idea of this thread is if you come across some roadworks, you can post them in this thread to warn others, and perhaps give them some tips to avoid them. Possibly highlight them in Red for easy viewing. I'll start off: City/County: Leicester Area/Road: Outer Ring Road near Racecourse/Knighton Park Reason: Closed for bridge strengthening Planned till: October 4th 2009 Notes/Tips: Causing major disruption along London Road from Oadby towards the City Centre; you cannot turn left or right into Shanklin Drive because the Council has cut it off as a rat-run; Diversions are in place - opposite Oadby Asda if you coming from that direction, otherwise use Knighton Road (inner ring road) I know there are some roadworks around Welford Road Stadium, King RichardsRoad/St. Augustines Road, near Victoria Park on London Road etc but don't know much about them so I'll leave them to other people to do. Happy venting

C-man Posted 4 September 2009 Author Posted 4 September 2009 That ****er makes my journey to Oadby in the morning HELL! It's a nightmare. I live on Shanklin Drive so until they stopped people turning into it off London Road, my road essentially became the Ring Road for two days. This thread doesn't have to be limited to Leicester by the way

Is it closed for a month then?!

Is it closed for a month then?! I work in Oadby too. I live in Glen. Fortunately someone built a dual carriageway from door to door. Takes me 7 minutes tops if the traffic is bad.

Alexikokopops Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Every day on my way to work I pass three average speed check zones on the M3. Outrageous. One of them is permanent too (where the M25 merges on). Only two on the way back though. Exciting, no?
Fosse Boy Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 My road in Harborough's bad at the moment, some gas works going on or some shit. Also, what's the deal with the roundabout on the A6 between Harborough and Kibworth? All they're doing is putting up a decorative monument to Foxton Locks and yet that apprently requires cones to be strewn all over the surrounding area just to do that!

Safe working space and deliveries. Having said that the time its been there to erect a pair of lock gates is beyond belief. Sounds as though they might have to remove them too with all the complaints they have had

dandannieldanok Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Anyone know how bad the roadworks are in Birstall on Loughborough Road?, could do with going to see someone over there but not going to go and sit it traffic for ages.

Smudge Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Maintaining the country's infrastructure is pretty damned important I'd say. Of course it means disruption but what's the alternative?
CosbehFox Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Maintaining the country's infrastructure is pretty damned important I'd say. Of course it means disruption but what's the alternative? But having roadworks done to four of the city's main entrance points to the inner ring road and cutting off a whole section of the outer inner ring road all the same time is some extreme. In fact, it's a farce. It was compounded by the bright spark who did a route for Skyride involving two of the roads free of roadworks and closing them off all day. It was simply murder getting into town on Sunday.
lou Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Probably because they only work about six hours a day from what I see! Six hours?? Wow they must be on overtime! Most workmen I know do about 3 if your lucky

I think if people realized how complicated repairing road structures is, they might hold their peace. The method of traffic management is overseen by the local authority; cue Ultra.
Stuliasz Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 A lot of the roadworks that are taking place by utility companies can be found at www.elgin.gov.uk. Occasionally, County/City works are on there too.
Daggers Posted 4 September 2009 Posted 4 September 2009 Near asda No one appreciates the trolley collectors...well I do - good work, Hairy. Good work.

Part Of The Crowd Posted 6 September 2009 Posted 6 September 2009 Are there any between Leicester and MK. I'm driving up tomorrow for a day out with friends

I think if people realized how complicated repairing road structures is, they might hold their peace. The method of traffic management is overseen by the local authority; cue Ultra. If anything, I receive more complaints from residents about roads NOT being dug up and repaired..
