dogadug Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Carrick? Nah!Too Downing-esque. Jimmy Bullard (now back in first team training) instead of Carrick.
Wycombe Fox Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Do you think I've had a 'mare? Wait and see come April when Bullard has single-handedly kept Hull in the Premier League 'mare upon 'mare
Simi Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Is Ian Ashbee English? No, but David Busst is.
AjcW Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I know experimenting with youngsters didnt work with walcott and I seriously doubt this will happen but if a certain mr Wilshere breaks into the arsenal set up by the end of the season is he worth it to make up the numbers, instead of shoving some overpaid goose like downing or bentley in.

Thing is, out of all the people that have made a squad, who has put any of those pair in?
Brainy Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 It wouldn't surprise me if Capello took Downing over Young.
Bert Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I've changed my mind. Shaun Wilkes (Rob Maybury to cover any injuries) Rob Maybury Mark Masters Dr. The Singh James Challinor Simon McCarthy Chris Tadman Lee Robinson Roy Harteveld Mark Maher Jamie Treadwell Tom Lofthouse Ryan Dawkins Joe Brewin Tom Moore Ashley Heggs Sam Cobley Matt Wilkes Karl Peutrill Ben Stapleford Rob Young Tom Hancock Tom Measures World Champions 2010.
leicesterfox86 Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 It wouldn't surprise me if Capello took Downing over Young. Depends on his fitness, but yea I can see it happening. Capello likes balance in the squad and as one of the few natural left sided players avaliable to him, he would be keen to take Downing.

leicesterfox86 Posted 18 September 2009 Posted 18 September 2009 FosterGreen James Terry Ferdinand Ashley Cole Johnson Brown Lescott Barry Hargreaves Beckham Lampard Gerrard Lennon Walcott Ashley Young Joe Cole Owen Defoe Carlton Cole Heskey Rooney Owen? Not convinced that he will make it. Is he going to get ahead of Defoe or Rooney? Not on current form. Is he going to get ahead of Crouch and Heskey? No, because they perform different roles. I just don't see where Owen could fit in to Capello's plans. The only way is if he finds some excellent form for Manchester United and Capello can no longer ignore him. Then he will HAVE to make room for him.
The Doctor Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 Carrick? Nah!Too Downing-esque. Jimmy Bullard (now back in first team training) instead of Carrick. and while we're suggesting players that won't be fit to go to south africa how about clemence?
leicesterfox86 Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 It has gone a bit un-noticed that Carrick hasn't made it under Capello hasn't it? You would have thought he would be a certainty! Wonder why he hasn't picked him?

Wonder why he hasn't picked him? Not played a single minute of the qualifying campaign. I doubt he is going to South Africa.

lildave3 Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 If England's centre midfield pairing isn't Lee Cattermole and Jack Wilshere then there is no justice.
Bert Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 If England's centre midfield pairing isn't Lee Cattermole and Jack Wilshere then there is no justice. It looks like there's going to be no justice then....
lildave3 Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 It looks like there's going to be no justice then.... I'm tipping one of them to get that 4th central midfield pick though.
Bert Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 I'm tipping one of them to get that 4th central midfield pick though. I can't see it myself.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 September 2009 Posted 22 September 2009 How are people picking sqaud's without Walcott? Got to take 5 strikers, look what happend in 2006, we only took 4 and one was a 17 year old Theo Walcott, Owen was injured and even if we got through Rooney would of been suspended, that would leave us with Crouch to face the French. Green - Foster - James Johnson - Brown - Terry - Ferdinand - Lescott - Bridge - Ashley Cole Beckham - Lennon - Gerrard - Barry - Lampard - Carrick - Walcott - Joe Cole Rooney - Crouch - Heskey - Defoe - Owen

TrickyTrev Posted 22 September 2009 Posted 22 September 2009 Well I don't think anyone intends to take 2 strikers that are injured and haven't played for months and a 17 year old that can't even get on the bench for his club side as 3 of their 4 strikers. There are only 23 squad spaces, 2 positions for a place, if you take 5 strikers it means you can only have 1 player for another position in the side. Given that we only play one true center forward and that most people have players such as Gerrard, Cole and Walcott in their squad who are more than capable of playing as central attacking players, a 5th striker is a real luxury.

Wycombe Fox Posted 23 September 2009 Posted 23 September 2009 and while we're suggesting players that won't be fit to go to south africa how about clemence? I'd prefer him in the squad to Ben Foster even if he did retire over 20 years ago.
Simo86 Posted 23 September 2009 Author Posted 23 September 2009 I'd prefer him in the squad to Ben Foster even if he did retire over 20 years ago. I think he was talking about Stephen Clemence, but Ray Clemence would probably be a better option than Foster after seeing his goalkeeping exploits on Sunday.
