StanSP Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 GK- Green, Foster, JamesDEF- Johnson, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson, Lescott, A.Cole, Warnock MID- Beckham, SWP, Lampard, Gerrard, Carrick, Barry, Milner, J.Cole FOR- Rooney, Heskey, Defoe, Crouch Why exactly?? Goalkeepers - Rob Green, Paul Robinson, Ben FosterDefenders - Glen Johnson, Micah Richards, Ashley Cole, Leighton Baines, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Phil Jagielka, Ledley King Midfielders - Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Michael Carrick, Gareth Barry, Aaron Lennon, Theo Walcott, Joe Cole, Ashley Young Strikers - Wayne Rooney, Emile Heskey, Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch At this moment in time (+ Joe Cole). They ought to have a stab at getting that fanny Carragher out of retirement, not that he deserves it for turning his back on the country I don't see how someone who can't train regularly (and only does light training + 20mins on an exercise bike as a pre-match warm-up) can get in to the World Cup squad.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 Don't know how anybody can give David James a place in our world cup squad, he has been appalling since harry redknapp and his coaching staff left for spurs, its been quite sad to see his demise between the sticks actually Idiot! Anyone with a microgram of grey matter could figure out why in a nano second! Do you still believe you were found under a gooseberry bush?
sdb Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 I'm hoping and praying he will come out of retirement. he shit's on lampard for his creativity! Scholes has been terrible for years!! I'd go with the same as the 1st post, Brown for Richards who has lost it in the last 12-18 months imo, and Joey Cole would get in if he gets back to his old self this season. Would be tempted with 5 strikers after '06, but I guess there won't be any untried inclusions in this squad so perhaps ok...

lildave3 Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 I know its 9 months away but just thought i'd ask what everyone thought. There could be a few surprises or it may just be the usual tried and tested players. At this current time my 23 man squad would be:GK- James, Green, Foster DEF- Johnson, Richards (providing he keeps playing well at rb for man city), A.Cole, Bridge, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson, Lescott MID- Walcott, Lennon, Milner, Young, Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Carrick FOR- Rooney, Defoe, Heskey, Crouch Probably agree with that. Carrick swapped with Beckham maybe? Not sure. Wilshere?
Ultra Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 James, Green, Foster Richards, Brown, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson, A. Cole, Bridge Hargreaves, Lennon, Walcott, Carrick, Gerrard, Barry, Lampard, J. Cole, Young Rooney, Heskey, Defoe, Crouch No place for Johnson, Milner, Lescott, Wright-Phillips, Beckham, Downing or Owen... But at least one first-choice player is bound to miss the trip through injury.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 There's a selection of youngsters that could make the trip I think, if they have decent seasons and get a bit of luck through injury drop outs. Rodwell, Wilshere, Welbeck? *Waits for suggestion to be shot down.
Ultra Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 Wilshere maybe. I doubt the others will get enough first team football to be considered.
RowlattsFox Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 But at least one first-choice player is bound to miss the trip through injury. With Rio Ferdinand being most likely, if his injury problems continue.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 Wilshere maybe. I doubt the others will get enough first team football to be considered. Rodwell plays regularly enough for Everton, and Ferguson is adamant that Welbeck will be taken. Be interesting to see who breaks into the team before South Africa.
lildave3 Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 I personally think i've done enough to earn a call up.
Sods Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 Green James Foster Johnson, Richards, Upson, Ferdinand, Terry, Lescott, Bridge, A.Cole Lennon, Walcott, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, J Cole, Milner Heskey © Cole Defoe Rooney
Joe. Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 Probably agree with that. Carrick swapped with Beckham maybe? Not sure. Wilshere? Surely Joe Cole would get the nod too? It can't be long before he's back again for Chelsea, so he should have had a decent amount of game time before the tournament. Comfortably the best option we have on the left hand side of midfield at the moment.

AyewJoking Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 Too early. At least one of the current squad will get injured plus players like Owen, Agbonlahor could have impressive seasons.
TrickyTrev Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 Green Foster Robinson Johnson Richards A. Cole Baines Ferdinand Terry Lescott King Barry Lampard Beckham Hargreaves Lennon Wallcot Gerrard J. Cole Rooney Defoe Heskey C. Cole That is two players for each position if we stick with the system that we are doing now. Obviously Hargreaves and Joe Cole are going to have to get themselves playing fit and well, but I think Hargreaves is significantly better than any of our other defensive midfield players and the place is probably his for the taking. Joe Cole is the only other English player that is talented enough to warrant being given the freedom that Gerrard and Rooney get in the Capello formation, he is therefore vital if we ever want to move either of these two players and/or cope with injuries. Beckham is in the squad for games when we are on top of teams but can't get a goal. His passing from deep is still the best in the team and he would instantly make us more dangerous from set pieces, in short he would be a useful player coming off the bench when you are chasing a game. He is also an outstanding professional and role model for the younger players. There will of course be one or two players that have brilliant seasons and force their way into the squad. I'd have an eye out for Jack Rodwell and Jack Wilshere if he gets enough playing time.
Bert Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 James, Foster, Green Johnson, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, Lescott, Upson, Cole, Bridge Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Lennon, J. Cole, Beckham, Walcott, Milner Heskey, Rooney, Defoe, Crouch.
Bryn Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 I don't see how someone who can't train regularly (and only does light training + 20mins on an exercise bike as a pre-match warm-up) can get in to the World Cup squad. Because he's comfortably in the top two English defenders, even with his unorthodox training habits. Imagine we get to the final and Ferdinand is suspended. Who do you throw in? King or Upson, Lescott, Woodgate? You've still got space for another centre-back in there for when it's a more prolonged loss. The nature of the tournament means that if one of our centre backs is out, you could throw King in for a game then hope the other recovers, and if not use the longterm option.
Simi Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 James, Foster, GreenJohnson, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, Lescott, Upson, Cole, Bridge Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Lennon, J. Cole, Beckham, Walcott, Milner Heskey, Rooney, Defoe, Crouch. Agreed. If Walcott is still ****ing around getting injured then obviously draft in SWP. We have some great strength down that side now. Lennon really is growing into an aggressive player, was a delight to watch him run at the Croatia defense the other night.
The Doctor Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 Idiot! Anyone with a microgram of grey matter could figure out why in a nano second!Do you still believe you were found under a gooseberry bush? uncalled for.
StanSP Posted 13 September 2009 Posted 13 September 2009 Wilshere maybe. I doubt the others will get enough first team football to be considered. Yet you put Hargreaves in your squad...

Green, Johnson, Rio, Terry, A.Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Walcott or Lennon, Rooney, Heskey. Beyond that is more difficult, but I think (from your squad) the main man missing is Beckham. He has to be involved. Do you really need Walcott, Young and Lennon? I don't think so. For those struggling to come up with your starting eleven, this seems to help - always best to see it on paper as it were!

Based on current international form, Lennon would start.
