The Doctor Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 Howard should def be given a rest yea, he isn't showing enough at the moment. Sadly, I think it is becoming very apparant that League One is his level. to be fair he did do well for derby a couple of years back because he got the service. the reason he isn't performing as well as everyone seems to think he should is because the midfield don't get foward and support him and fryatt so when the ball is hoofed upto him and he wins the header without the refs giving a foul against him (jealous of his hieght if you ask me) the only city player within 20 yards of him is fryatt, who is closely marked by one or two defenders because they have no-one else getting forward to worry about.
Lillehamring Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 You'd think by reading this forum we are I'd have taken 10th after this many games, so would of everyone else. Stop with the negativity everyone!! so, being frustrated and discussing ways things might be IMPROVED is negative... but settling for mid table after a great start, that's positive is it...
TrickyTrev Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 If we chose to lump it up to Howard for 90 minutes he will win about two flick ons against Wheater and we'll be defending all match because we don't have the ball. Tonight is a night for keeping the ball on the deck. We need to be a lot more disciplined in central midfield than we have in the last few weeks. Having two players in the middle that want to bomb on does not help you going forward, because there is nobody to direct and orchestrate play so the ball just gets lumped forward, or defensively, because you look like conceding on the break every moment like we do. ..................Weale... Nielson...Hobbs..Brown...Berner Oakley...King....Wellens..Adams ...............Galllagher ................Fryatt Subs: Logan, Morrison, McGivern, N'Guessen, Yann, Howard, Waghorn

Well one of the problems with hoof ball is that there is no way that the midfield can sprint as fast as the ball is kicked. If you want other players to compete for flick ons you have to play more players upfront. We effectively did this season with Lloyd Dyer playing like a left forward.

marbelladave Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 It's the usual game of people sticking their favourite players onto a team sheet. Don't rate Neilson---drop him, don't like Howard---drop him too!, blah, blah ,blah. :frusty: We need to decide what we want out of tonights game, ie can we win the game or should we be trying to hold Boro and maybe hit them on the break? Should we expect to win, try to win or go looking for a draw? Whatever we decide we need the team properly set up to achieve our aims, players in their proper positions given jobs to do that they are actually capable of doing. With everyone playing their 'natural game' we should regain some of the fluidity of our early season play and with that we should gain enough confidence to go out and give Boro a decent game!
Vlad The Impaler Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 so, being frustrated and discussing ways things might be IMPROVED is negative...but settling for mid table after a great start, that's positive is it... I never said that was negative, just the way some people are quick to get on players backs and start thinking they know better than Nige and his staff. Everyone has a right to share there opinions but it's not as bad as people are making out. I never said i was settling for mid table, though i do think we have had a good start, like I said the majority would of taken 10th at this moment in time.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 And to think that I was going to be complimentary about your line up's in a previous post. That'll teach me.... :D

maddog Posted 29 September 2009 Posted 29 September 2009 So is Tunchev actually injured then I don't know why someone would just make up that he's out for those Bulgaria games. EDIT: According to the Mercs probable line ups, our team will be identical to Saturdays so Tunch there. He can't be injured.
