In our pre-games targets....we have disappointed thus far. Some rowers who were expected to medal are out, whilst our world champion Canoeist also failed to medal.

Thus far we have less medals than expected...so don't insult my sporting knowledge, when you're clearly just generalizing.

Edit: Just remembered Giles Scott.....our most dead cert for a goal, disappointing start in the regatta.

The medal target takes into accounts missing out on some expected medals.

And I concur with MP, your sporting knowledge is shite.

We are actually slightly ahead at this point in comparison to London, however I can't see us achieving that again but I can imagine us getting around 40-50 medals

Slightly ahead on medal totals.....but behind on expectations.

We had hoped to medal in these early disciplines to a greater extent than we have.

As has just been pointed out to you the BOA expect miss out on numerous "expected" medals we always do, just as we pick up medals we did not expect, a shooting medal for example is always unexpected due to the nature of the sport.

We have a target of 19 and 47 + at the moment the general performance of our athletes is nothing to worry about what so ever, if you want to talk talking about poor performance and missed targets I'd leave it till at least Sunday if I were you.

You are looking at it completely and utterly the wrong way

There's a big difference between missing out on expected medals, and dropping dead cert expected golds.

You do realize we set medal expectations on the past performance and expected performances of athletes right?

I'm looking at it from the same way those making these predictions would have looked at it.

Current world champions should be a dead cert to medal, as well as past olympic medalists.

We've yet to gain a 'unexpected' medal, that falls into the same category as the 'unexpected' drops we have made.

Yes, what you don't realize the set medal expectation takes that into account, then deducts a load of medals as, due to the nature of sport, the BOA know a lot of athletes you'd consider a dead cert (ridiculous) wont medal.

Third sentence, wow. I'd love to know how that could possibly be the case given a lot of events have more than 3 ex Olympic medalists and a world champion competing in them. Defies mathematics

Do you consider Phelps a dead cert?

I'd consider him an overwhelming favorite. Although what relevance that has I don't know, given he is the most decorated Olympian in history, certainly not comparable to someone like Giles Scott.

What a totally non nonsensical post, again.

Ridiculous.

Phelps finished 2nd in one of his heats.....Scott has 1 defeat in 3 years and that was when his rudder fell off.

What on earth are bleating on about, you cannot count the heats they are part of this Olympics! I could quite easily say look where Scott is now he is bang average at best! your arguing against your own point by using that line lollol

Scott obviously a favorite no denying that,  nothing compared to Phelps who has dominated multiple events at Olympic and World level for like a decade or something, the amount of opportunities Phelps gets alone should tell you that, he's got three golds already ffs lol

I'm not arguing against my own point at all.

Medal expectations are based on expected performances. Scott for team GB would have been as much of a certainty as Phelps for the U.S.

But then you go on to point out the Phelps finished second in his heat lollollol

And the best of it is, as I understand it, Giles Scott isn't anywhere near finishing yet lol

Well....firstly you were suggesting that Phelps was so far ahead of Scott, that Scott should not be considered comparible...yet this 'god' Phelps only finished 2nd in a heat.

Secondly, I actually was the one who pointed out that Scott was nowhere near finished, but is performing way below expectations.

Grewks lollollollollol

I wish I wasn't at work so I could get properly stuck into pulling apart his stupidity. lol

Yeah! and as I said to you in my last post, if you want to use the current Olympic performance as an argument then (lol)  what exactly has Scott done in this Olympics to disprove that theory!!! Your arguing against your own point  lol that god has won 3 Golds already! lol

Well I think we should perhaps let him finish his event before we all start writing articles about linking the Zika virus to poor performance, along with the rest of athletes out there that are nowhere near finishing their event.

Complete nonsense. A lot of these events are a one off, check out Florence yesterday, 5 guys all with best times within half a second of each other, whoever turns up not just on the day but in that final for 90 seconds is the one who walks away with gold.

"Not really performing to the levels we were expecting thus far"

But hey..if you want to change topic now i've proved you wrong, go ahead.

No we aren't your changing the subject, this whole thing started because you said we weren't winning enough medals, you idiot lol

And in any case, if you want to talk performance instead,  we've got plenty of athletes doing better than expected, great win for Konta yesterday, for example.

You are changing the subject though....

More medal hopefuls have failed thus far, than non-medal hopefuls have gained.

As for Konta...what colour medal has she won?

You can't complain that i've criticized athletes who haven't completed their discipline, and then claim Konta is performing well.

Oh sweet Jesus lol. I'm not!!! You are! lol

To clear this up, are you talking medals won or performances thus far? please pick one instead of fluttering between the two I'll happily tell you were you are wrong with either.

Complaining about Konta not winning a medal in an event that's not finished yet! lol
