StanSP Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nal/8417560.stm Arsene Wenger has hit out at the Premier League fixture list after his side's 1-1 draw with Burnley.Arsenal play Hull, who have not played since 12 December, on Saturday after away games on Sunday and Wednesday. "The guy who organised the fixtures this season must have come from a special school, because he's more intelligent than I am," said Wenger. "I think the Premier League has a basic promise to organise the fixtures in a normal way." Hull's week without a game was a result of Everton's Europa League commitments, and Wenger believes his side have been unfairly treated. Arsenal played away at Liverpool on 13 December, winning 2-1, before taking on Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday. "For sure, (the fixture organisers) have never played football, organising midweek games in a week when you have a Europa League programme," said Wenger. "We have some teams who do not play at all. We play Sunday and Wednesday away and at home on Saturday against Hull, who have not played all week." Wenger also criticised Wolves boss Mick McCarthy's decision to field a weakened side against Manchester United. McCarthy - with one eye on Sunday's game against fellow newly promoted side Burnley - made 10 changes to his side at Old Trafford, and saw his side fall to a 3-0 defeat. "We will have to compete with Manchester United over 37 games instead of 38," said Wenger. "I believe it is a problem for the international credibility of the Premier League, but it is not my problem, it is a Premier League problem." But Burnley boss Owen Coyle refused to condemn McCarthy's decision, despite the fact his side will now face a relatively fresh Wolves team at the weekend. "If that is the motivation for Wolves, to galvanise them, then so be it," said Coyle. "Mick McCarthy is an outstanding manager and fantastic man, somebody I have a lot of time for. "He has done a fantastic job at Wolves and does what he sees fit for Wolverhampton." Does he have a claim?
CosbehFox Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 No, it's a problem with UEFA making the Europa League are a more bloated beast than ever before. Not the Premier League fixtures man.
Ross-Kemp Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 If Arsenal were top of the league, and would have won last night, no doubt Ferguson or Benitez would be moaning
samlcfc Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 Fuk off Wenger, Get on with it. Exactly, Its just how it goes and if he might as well deal with it quietly cause it isnt going to change
Fosse Boy Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 No, it's a problem with UEFA making the Europa League are a more bloated beast than ever before. Not the Premier League fixtures man. This.
MC Prussian Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 Dear Arsène: a) Is this your first season in English football? Are you an amateur in that regard? b) When did you first hear about the fixtures for the 2009/2010 season? c) Why do you start moaning about the fixture list 17 games into the new season? d) Do you want to be a contender in a European league - yes or no? d) Ever noticed that teams in the lower divisions of the Football League tend to play as many (if not more) games than a Top Four club like your bloody Arsenal FC? or f) Are you simply frustrated your bloody Arsenal couldn't win at Burnley and/or because you lost Fabregas due to injury? You moaning old git, Arsène.
The Doctor Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 he wouldn't have been complaining if it were the other way around.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 Why would Wenger moan? We've got 2 games in 2 days in a few weeks.
Uncle Albert Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Aston Villa have had the same week as Arsenal, shame O'Neill doesnt kick off about it, suppose when you beat United at Old Trafford its abit better.
Tevez Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Wengers got a massive point. Well said and up the Arsenal.
Uncle Albert Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Wengers got a massive point. Well said and up the Arsenal. He hasnt really mate because my point above shows it and most of the other teams were in the same boat. Liverpool played the Sunday 4:00pm same as Arsenal, Liverpool played Wednesday 8:00pm same as Arsenal but Liverpool are kicking off at 12:30pm away at Portsmouth on Saturday where as Arsenal are at home at 5:30pm. Wenger doesnt like it because he drew to Burnley and United and Chelsea both won at home. Shit happens, he wouldnt of complained if they won.
Leicesterboi Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 :Arsene Wenger Best manager in the Premiership. If I had to buy a season ticket for a Prem team, it would be Arsenal.
lildave3 Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 :Arsene Wenger Best manager in the Premiership. Well that's a pile of poop right there.
Manwell Pablo Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Has a point with the fixtures. Not a leg to stand on in regards to the Wolves thing though, he rotates his squad more than most.
The Doctor Posted 20 December 2009 Posted 20 December 2009 Not a leg to stand on in regards to the Wolves thing though, he rotates his squad more than most. we'll although he does that he doesn't want to critisize himself because arsenal aren't good enough to win anything on their own. Seems strange that in the league cup, the only trophy arsenal are likely to win, he plays his youth team.
Jordan Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Yes, Arsène is spot on--plus it's absolutely criminal that the team his side will be facing at the end of a sort-of-grueling set of fixtures is Hull Fvcking City. I mean, wtf? However shall Arsenal, a team that has a squad that's barely large enough to both be a game-in-hand from 2nd in the Premier League AND cruise to the top of their Champions League 1st Round group by mid-December, deal with such a massive challenge?
Tommeh Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Wengers got a good point. ARSENAL F'TITLE YEAAHH. oh and the problem wouldn've have existed if the Uefa Cup wasn't trying to be the champions league. And no doubt Sky had something to do with the reason Arsneal travelled to Anfield on the Sunday.
Jordan Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Yeah and the fixtures are totally stacked against Arsenal and entirely in Man U's favor. I mean, the magic fixture-matching-machine only gave Fulham just SIXTY-SEVEN HOURS AND FIFTEEN MINUTES of rest after a must-win Europa League game before facing Manchester United in the Premier League. Now, if that's not a blatant attempt to let United just cruise to yet another Premiership win, I don't know what is.
