Daggers Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Sport needs to break gay stereotype Obviously Thracian won't agree, being one of them who hates homosexuality being rammed down his throat, but I hope this is the paradigm shift which allows people to stop having to lie about themselves - and the beginning to the end of shite terrace chants (mainly aimed at Brighton).
Finnegan Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Hugely brave of him but you need a popular footballer to come out with it if you really want to challenge people's conceptions.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 No time for queers thanks. Not natural. *Jokes
Unit Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 I always hated him as i had a tigers season ticket for a few years, now i have more respect for him. Fair play for coming out and good luck to him in the future. I can't imagine what that's like, i found it hard enough to tell my nan that i'd got a city season ticket (she's from cov)!
Finnegan Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Certainly explains his breakdown a few years ago.
General Smuts Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Really hope this doesn't end the way Justin Fashanu did but fair play to him. That takes major cohones and hopefully changes some peoples views on athletes.
ozleicester Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Takes huge strength of character. Can only hope that the huge number of people who are intelligent and mature enough to accept people for who they are, will be supportive and encourage all people to be free to be who they are.
Head Honcho Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Hugely brave of him but you need a popular footballer to come out with it if you really want to challenge people's conceptions. Yeh really brave............................. ..........................when's his book out! It would've been brave 10 years ago but this surely has to be the worst kept secret in sport never mind Welsh Rugby.
Darkzzz_ Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 I can't believe anyone would want to put a willy in that mush.
Nick Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Bummer. I wonder why it's so difficult for people to 'come out' if the level of maturity exemplified here by Leicesterboi represents the cultural norm. Thanks for your witty contribution, Leicesterboi. You're my new diversity hero.
Lillehamring Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 fair play to him, but i can't help thinking that he would have done more for his cause if he had 'come out' whilst playing...
Alexikokopops Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 fair play to him, but i can't help thinking that he would have done more for his cause if he had 'come out' whilst playing... He is isn't he? For Cardiff Blues.
Fosse Boy Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Hugely brave of him but you need a popular footballer to come out with it if you really want to challenge people's conceptions. This.

Where the fook is Thracian? Oooh Gareth Thomas is on this morning. Fair play to the guy, hopefully eradicates alot of discrimination. I ain't a fan of homosexualality. But i have to admit, the guy has alot of bottle, and i respect him.
Daggers Posted 22 December 2009 Author Posted 22 December 2009 "A fan of homosexuality"? What about Ladyboys?
Guest Mee-9 Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 "A fan of homosexuality"? What about Ladyboys? Was trying to say "I don't really agree with gays" But this has made me think that surely everybody is their own self. And I should really accept what they are, for who they are. Ladyboys
Guest Bilo Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Very brave of him though he's lucky he plays a sport where the spectators are less likely to tear into him for this. One hopes this leads to a time where being gay in any sport is no longer a taboo but I do agree with the sentiment that it'll take a popular footballer to come out to really change perceptions.

Ooh Err missus. Hopefully it does signify a sea-change in the way gay sportsmen and women can present themselves though.

Was trying to say "I don't really agree with gays" But this has made me think that surely everybody is their own self. And I should really accept what they are, for who they are.Ladyboys i heard one say the other day that the sky was blue, i felt compelled to disagree.
Uncle Albert Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 He might be a bummer but he has got a massive pair of balls to come out and speak about it.. Fairplay to the lad.
Sparky Posted 22 December 2009 Posted 22 December 2009 Cracking servant to rugby , big fan of "Alfie" and i dont say that about many Welshman. Fair play to him for having the bollocks to come out.
