C.J Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 I know this may not interest most of you on here, but as some of you may know Donington park was going to host the 2010 F1. But through lots of c*ck ups it isnt happening. To cut a long story short the administrators were called in but a buyer couldn't be found, so now the circuits future is up in the air. Heres a link to another forum which gives more detail: Save Donington Theres also a link to a facebook group on page 2 of that topic. Thanks and see you there on the 6th fellow petrolheads!
C.J Posted 5 January 2010 Author Posted 5 January 2010 If this place can get 43 pages on a topic about snow Im sure this can generate some interest . Well, I did say it may not concern everybody. So thanks for your input.

As much as Donnington is a great place, a great venue, a great track, The owners have brought this on themselves as far as I can see, They shot themselves in the foot by getting rid of the World Superbikes, MotoGP, British Superbikes(?), I order to expand the track and get F1, bearing in mind it would cost alot, and also bearing in mind when I used to go and watch the World Superbikes driving through the village was a pain in the backside, bumper to bumper, huge queues, long waits going in and coming out of the the circuit and village, How on earth they expected to stop all that on a bigger scale with the F1 I don't know. I've not really took much interest into the Donnington Park saga recently, all I can say from what I have heard, seen and took notice of though is it seem the owners have bitten off more than they can chew in order of greed. Very sad to lose something like Donnington Park, but it has fuck all now, all in order of attempting to get F1 there, they failed big time.

Legend_in_blue Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 Seen some brilliant touring car racing there in the days of Cleland and co. Seen some brilliant world rally championship racing there in the days of McCrae and co. Would be a shame to see the place go. It's a great day out.
Sir Fynwy Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 I've been to the MotoGP there and it is a great day out but the place is going down the pan because of bad business decisions by the operators, I have no sympathy for badly run and over confident businesses. Hopefully it will be saved by some sensible investors if not it's goodbye.
hairy Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donington_ParkThe Wheatcroft Family apparently, whoever they are. The original owner, Mr Wheatcroft, died just before Christmas. He was the original saviour of the track.
Jay Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 I went to Donington for the World Superbikes free paddock and pit lane passes through Pirelli and to be honest the place was a dump and you could tell then that there was no way on earth it would have been able to host a F1 Grand Prix the place was so below standard in just about every area. Donington has no big events having lost the Moto GP and F1 now for at least 5years has lost the British Superbikes I believe so you can't see any reasons for anyone to buy it.
isaidno Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 I've worked there for the last 5 years and I don't want it to go bust.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 I know it's not the racing bit but does anyone know what this means for Download Festival?
Houdini Logic Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 As an F1 fan i'm very glad Silverstone was awarded the new GB contract.
Finnegan Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 I know it's not the racing bit but does anyone know what this means for Download Festival? Given that Download is run by Live Nation, a massive multi-national to whom it's no doubt quite profitable, I imagine they'll simply go on the lookout for a new venue.

I would have thought whoever owns the track at the time will be more than happy to let the festival continue and reap the rewards.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 This is the discussion that's been going through my mind. On the download forums all that's happened is people have been told 'Not to worry, stop talking about it'. It should stay at Donnington, however, in the event that it can't do it I'm sure Milton Keynes will be ready to franchise it.
