Manwell Pablo Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 How do you fix one. If it's broken like. I'm very cold.
Sir Fynwy Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 How do you fix one. If it's broken like.I'm very cold. get a man in to look at it, if you are in Leicester I know a man who might be able to help. Otherwise try turning it off for 10 minutes and then back on (the usual trick), this probably won't help. Sometimes you can fix them by relieving the system pressure but I'm no expert.

This costs money, bad idea Carl. I want a magical cure, not an expensive one. It's been off and on, and worked for about 20 seconds, then fuked up again. on a serious note I'm 90% sure the pipes are frozen, I just don't know what to do about it.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 January 2010 Author Posted 6 January 2010 is it a combi ? It's a boiler. It's fucked. It's cold, and therefore could be suffering from freezing issues. The above is the sum of my knowledge of boilers.

If the pipes are frozen you are well and truly in the brown stuff. If you are in Leicester I could put you in touch with a guy who maybe able to help very cheap.
Zingari Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 if you live in rented accommodation you can rip up the floorboards and stuff to make a fire , it would be against your human rights an' stuff if they give you any grief
General Smuts Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 I want to know what Ric Flair has to say about boilers. I love his bolier stories. It's the only reason i want to get a job so that i can read more boiler stories.
lou Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 Have you got water coming from your cold water taps? If so then they prob arent frozen as water pipes generally freeze at the point where they enter the house (they have a duct on them there which if it isnt lagged just lets the freezing cold air blast through.
Wycombe Fox Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 If it's a combi boiler it'll have a small diameter plastic pipe going out of an external wall to drain off condensate. If the condensate water freezes in the pipe, the boiler will stop working. If this is the case, get an extension lead and a hairdryer to defrost the pipe, re-start the boiler and put some pipe-lagging on the small pipe. This happened to my mate a couple of weeks ago. I think it cost him about a fiver to fix. No problems since. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...ndensate%20pipe? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showth...html?p=17253679 If it's not a combi boiler then I can't help.
DannyLCFC1 Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 As mentioned above is it a combi or a normal boiler if its a normal boiler you will have a cylinder in which you have to turn an imersion heater on to get hot water to your taps if you don't have this you have a combi boiler, are there any warning lights on the boiler flashing or lit up?
lou Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 It's a boiler. It's fucked. It's cold, and therefore could be suffering from freezing issues. The above is the sum of my knowledge of boilers. If its direct feed then its a combi.... ie no water tank!

Webbo Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 sorted sort of. My bro-in-law fixes boilers for British gas, I asked him about this and he told me not to bother. He claimed that BG charged £4,500 to supply and fit a new boiler.

Use two hands for this...... Turn one till it stops. Turn the other one on, the pressure will build and it will make a noise. DO THIS ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS to get pressure back into the system. Put the levers back where they were. The end. This may work. It may not. It may cause an explosion, however my combi was off this mornin and it worked for me, I just let in enough pressure to take the gauge up past the low level and heat and water came on instantly. Good luck, N.
