dandannieldanok Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 i'm sorry but upson is just as good as terry and both woodgate and dawson are miles ahead of ferdinand. Oh right, you were being serious. Ok then.
Samilktray Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Cant stand cheating, so I think its a great decision to strip Terry of captaincy. P-rick. Happy with Rio, experienced and the best defender we've in the last few years.
maddog Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Rooney without question. Don't mind Ferdinand, although he's been injured most of this season so may not even play. Would prefer Rooney though. Gerrard would probably be my 2nd choice behind Rooney. The decision to strip John Terry of the captains armband is a joke in my opinionHe will clearly be in the squad for the world cup. If he is in the squad, his dressing room relationship with the players and state of mind to perform is obviously of a sufficient standard to play at centre back. If he is playing as a first team regular, why should he not be captain? People have commented on the radio that it is about dressing room splits. Well as i see it the split wouldnt be a 50/50 one, it would be more like Bridge and Barry on one side and everyone else on the other Even Ancelotti has had the sense to come out and say private lives are private and will have no impact on his captaincy for Chelsea. But now Rio is captain. But lets look at the cadidates for the armband a) Rio Ferdinand- Deliberately skipped a routine drugs test and was summonned to a 9 month ban by the FA, then had the audacity to party in a West End night club when he should have been on compassionate leave from a champions league game for Man Utd b) Steven Gerrard- Arrested following allegations of a brawl outside a nightclub in Liverpool, escaping affray charges but said to have 'punched his victim like a professional boxer' c) Wayne Rooney- Utterly hot-headed on the pitch having been sent off in the last world cup at a crucial time v Portugal, disrespecting the black armbands worn for Alan Ball in the Spain friendly and was subsequently taken off for fear of him being sent off, throwing the armband away afterwards, being sent off for dissent stupidly in a champions league game vs Villarreal, raising an arm to Tal Ben Haim's face, and not to mention his extra-relationship affairs with a backstreet prostitute a couple of years ago. Ironically, Rio Ferdinands punishment was actually DIRECTLY a cause of an infringement of FA policy, John Terry's issues are a matter for his family, and for him and Bridge My thought: The decision has nothing to do with Terry as captain, more as a marker that we must continue to view Capello as an iron fist ruler and that the action taken is a subsequent warning to others not to step out of squad guidlines laid out by him. He has shown unquestionable consistency in decision making (which i consider a good thing- if NOT a good thing Terry has been stripped) The English gutter press: Trial by media You donut.
Super_horns Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Lets just hope Ferdinand can get himself fully fit rather than injured every so often otherwise Mr Capello will be having to make another change.
Edmund Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Great call. Rio is a leader at United and one of the best defenders for England in recent years. I still wouldn't drop Terry at this moment in time though.
purpleronnie Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 What a fuss over nothing. Thats just the way it is...baby. Rio as captain is just weird. Lampard for me. But in the end I don't think it will matter. We'll either be good enough or not, regardless of the Captain.
BoneDog Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 It's got to be Rooney for me. It's time to man up. And Wayne's got the beard for the job If not Rooney then any of Barry, Gerrard, Rio and Lampard.
BoneDog Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Thats just the way it is...baby.Rio as captain is just weird. Lampard for me. But in the end I don't think it will matter. We'll either be good enough or not, regardless of the Captain. This is exactly the truth!
Donut Posted 5 February 2010 Posted 5 February 2010 Rooney without question.Don't mind Ferdinand, although he's been injured most of this season so may not even play. Would prefer Rooney though. Gerrard would probably be my 2nd choice behind Rooney. You donut. I dont see it If a collective aim of winning a world cup isnt an ambition and motivation enough to unite a dressing room, regardless of the captain, nothing will Terry and Bridge need along clear the air talk and collect themselves for the job in hand
Cat Burger Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 "Blah blah blah..something Rio did 7 years ago...blah blah blah".
sdb Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 if rio gets back to what he was 12-18 months ago then great. otherwise not great. Gerrard and Rooney are better without the responsibility and after them I haven't a clue - Barry?! Bit worrying.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 It's now irrelevant whether Rio should be captain or not due to not doing the drugs test. Maybe it'll give Rio abit more confidence. Should of been Gerrard or Rooney
brad1875 Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 roger johnson or gary cahill or scott dann for england anyone?
purpleronnie Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 Lets just hope Rio is cleaner than clean because they'll be lining up to sell their stories. I didn't think capello would bow down to the media pressure but I believe he has. But again if the players are good enough they'll do well, but I'm sure terry will be the scapegoat if we don't.
sdb Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 roger johnson or gary cahill or scott dann for england anyone? maybe, yes, not yet (imo)
The Doctor Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 "Blah blah blah..something Rio did 7 years ago...blah blah blah". and? he's not exactly been whiter than white since then has he?
purpleronnie Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 and? he's not exactly been whiter than white since then has he? SACK HIM THEN!!!!!!!
Guest ttfn Posted 6 February 2010 Posted 6 February 2010 and? he's not exactly been whiter than white since then has he? Racist. That's no reason for him not to be captain.
The Doctor Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Racist. That's no reason for him not to be captain. and yet it's reason enough for terry to be stripped of the captaincy.
