Webbo Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Holiday? Yes, that could have something to do with it. The staff in shops and restaurants were much friendlier than here but that might have something to do with wanting a tip. I was was there at the time of the last world cup and wearing my England shirt and a lot of Americans went out of their way to talk to me about football. I just felt you wouldn't get that here.
Zingari Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Oh can't you just fuck of you irritating old cunt? Not noticed you're drivel over the last few days it's been lovely and i've not noticed to many people arguing or being wound up, Perhaps you can fuck off in hole somewhere more often. It's nothing to do with money, I have plenty actually, working since I left school, inheritance of my dad, redundancy pay, savings, Its personal problems/family problems (Not problems but commitments which pose problems) which is why I said "I just can't make that step and push myself to go." and why I am reacting angrily. I think you're the one who needs to 'grow up' and not jump to conclusions every fucking time. Twat. i bet you don't get stuff like this in johnny foreigner land
Lillehamring Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 most things you can get here anyway, things like PG tips, a lot of british tv, except all the crap that saturates british tv (BB, i'm a celeb etc), i've actually seen some really good british films here that never made it in england. i can get real ale, tho i really miss everards, and it costs about 50% more than normal beer. we get all the premiership games live, and eurosport for things like snooker, do miss the rugby a bit. choice when it comes to food brands, i miss i DON'T miss crap public transport, aggressive people in the street, excessive amounts of litter, poor facilities weather wise, it's not that different in the summer here, but it's beautiful in the winter. i miss going to the city, but i've been to some matches here, so not the end of the world. naturally miss my family, but i have more friends here than i ever had in england so, a few things, but nowhere near enough to ever make me want to go back...
Fosse Boy Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I would miss City, and I would miss Leicestershire Foxes. I would miss my family and my good friends. If it wasn't for those, I would be out of this shit hole like a shot. Snap. I'd probably miss Harborough and the surrounding countryside a bit too. lord mayors are fvcking quality here
MPH Posted 7 February 2010 Author Posted 7 February 2010 Intrestingly i have always found the people in the states to be much for friendly than in the UK... Waling through the city centre people would rather crap on you then talk to you some some days.... never met anything but politeness in North Carolina.. thats just me though, i guess...
Benji Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 -European beer/prices -Football -Public transport, pretty dreadful in America, if you havent got a car then good luck leaving a city centre -HP Sauce Would definitely not miss our food, 10x better over there imo. Especially Diner's it was fking amazing to go drinking in outside new york and then have french toast for 1 dollar at 4am. We need them here.
Fox92 Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 Good luck, I'd love to go and live in America. Been twice on holiday, I think it's a great place with fantastic people. I hate it when people in this country have a 'hate' thing towards Americans. When I think about living in America though, the only thing I'd miss is the football. Then again, they broadcast it well. Them diners are the best where you can get anything you want
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 I miss fook all when I go abroad. This country is full of twats and is always shite weather. It is also too expensive.

marbelladave Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 Been living in southern Spain since just after the turn of the century. From our terrace we have great sea views and on a clear day we can see Africa! We have Sky TV and can live a very 'English' style life, most of the shops stock goods for the large expat community, for 9 months of the year it's great. The summer months are a bit of a pain with all the holidaymakers, but we have a house inland away from the coast so we spend much of the summer there. Very Spanish, virtually no brits, just a few tourists who like to get off the beaten track! What do I miss about England? Live footy of course, away days from Malaga are expensive and time consuming so I only get to a few games each year, usually in London as they are easy from Gatwick. Getting to the Walkers is a real nonsense, Luton plus a train if possible but there are fewer flights and they are often at the wrong times. We have to be in England for the time being and have been in north London for about 18 months, it's ok and I have time to get to plenty of games. But, if we could tie up our business in the uk we would be on the plane back tomorrow!

I ordered french toast for brekkie on my last morning in NY, and I was given a family sized bread and butter pudding!!
ozleicester Posted 9 February 2010 Posted 9 February 2010 (real) Football.............and "knowledgeable" discussion about football. Autumn............ you’ve no idea how glorious the British season is. Family. Culture. Access to Europe...... being 10 hours by air from anywhere different is so dFrustrating. History....................we lived in a house built in 1914, and it was considered historically significant. The Arts.... ............whether it be, beautiful works, Theatre, or the big band of the day. Snow People................... some of the cleverest, funniest and most entertaining in the world are walking down the streets. A feeling of being "home"
Shrenchel Posted 9 February 2010 Posted 9 February 2010 Lack of Lucozade was a shitter when I lived in Spain. Cider too. B&H. People with a comprehensive understanding of the concept of irony. Away days. People being in a much better mood when the sun's out. Getting absolutely battered on a night out without everyone asking if you're ok all the time. Decent telly. Proper journalism. Garth Crooks. Shops being open on Sunday. Girls dressed like slags. Girls that get wetter than a mermaid's flannel just because you buy them a couple of drinks. The (comparatively) cheap price of cheese. Kebab shops that are open past midnight. Good chocolate. Coppers that aren't complete fvcking fascists. Oh and sports pages/news reports that cover more than the two top teams in the country.
Shrenchel Posted 9 February 2010 Posted 9 February 2010 Looking at it, that list is a bit longer that I thought it would be. Should prolly point out that theyre all well minor irritations in the grand scheme and if I made a list about England then it'd probably send this forum into IPS Driver Error for a week. Anyone that has the chance to shag off this shithole for a bit should definitely go for it.
New England Fox Posted 9 February 2010 Posted 9 February 2010 I've been in the US for just over 5 years now and the only things I miss are my family, football and the food. The American versions of bacon and sausages just don't compare .

The American versions of bacon and sausages just don't compare . I have GOT to agree with you. Out early one morning as the gf wanted to go look at clothes. I found my self a great looking little diner, sat down ( they came up to me to take my order - a first for breakfast!) ordered sausage bacon and eggs and got... well lets just say im sure the look on my face when it arrived was a picture... small thin baby sausages... tiny! and think bacon with more fat than meat... eggs were nice and copious amount of coffee was a bonus tho
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 9 February 2010 Posted 9 February 2010 Don't Slag off England too much as I will be living there for a minimum of 5 months and the tickets are non-refundable.

The bacon IS worse in the US, BUT served on waffles with Maple syrup it is divine.
