lou Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Alright tony testicles, calm down. I'm sure if when you were back in the pens there was a stand that made absolutely no attempt to make any noise whatsoever you would have ripped the shit out of it.I'm sure the West Stand has some absolutely smashing characters and some right fvcking nutters in semi-retirement etc etc but let's be honest, it's an extremely fvcking embarrassing part of a pretty embarrassing ground and people are clearly gunna take the piss and associate a certain type of supporter with it. Ive tried the West stand and found it the worst one for atmosphere but if that suits people then thats fine... its just not for me
Thracian Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 If you closed your eyes the West Stand on match days it's just like being at a well-attended funeral. The atmosphere is entirely respectful, totally sterile and lacking in any sort of passionate animation. Talk about restrained. The modus operandi is straight from the Tigers. Smug, self-satisfied mid-to-lower ranking professionals look on as if they're about to judge a flower show. And then turn sourly towards anyone who raises a full-blooded cheer barely able to contain the comment they wish to make that such outbursts are "not the done thing" here. They're the sort who'd spy on their neighbours' dustbins as a favour to the government and who'd think it was their duty to alert the stewards at least once a game on some pretence or another. Not that it's much better in the middle ranks of the kop. Polite applause, too many ultra-sensitive middle-aged women with supposedly wannabee sensitive early-or-pre-teen kids and people who suck cough sweets in the ridiculous belief that they're disguising the fact that they're giving you flu .... arseholes!. For all the sodding noise they make about the football they'd be better off in bed anyway.

Oh ho ho ho that is the nail on the head I always thought that the silent, seat padding, middle aged, get up and clap and then sit straight back down when we score people sit in the kop for one of two reasons. A) That they would love to sit in the West stand, but they can't afford it. and B) that they like the atmosphere of the 'kop' and want to experience it, but don't want to make any noise themselves. Rather frustrating that my row in the kop, KK, is the last row that will stand, any further down and you're sitting all game, and not making much noise, apart from the odd criticism.
davieG Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Well as someone who sits in the Just the ticket section C1, mainly for affordability I must appear like a sore thumb because I'm up out of my seat at every near miss, ok not that often against Doncaster , every dodgy ref/lino decision and try to join in the singing that drifts across from the cop. You really shouldn't blame the fans for how they behave, each to their own or where they sit, this belongs firmly at the door of LCFC who it would seem deliberately allowed the current dispersion of these fans around the ground.

I don't really see the problem. There's no malice in it. Fans have always had a bit of banter about the fans in the posh seats (JTT the obvious exception), some of the comments that used to fly around Filbo when 'Carling give us a song' resulted in a faint murmur were hilarious. I don't think anyone would ever suggest they're any less worthy of coming to games or whatever. If people have that much of a complex about fans taking the piss a bit then football is probably not their game. Also, I agree with Ian C and Thrac. Better West Standers in the West Stand than West Standers in 'the kop'.

I agree but there have been instances of people on here 'attacking' these people with a degree of malice and hatred, I'm not bothered for myself having experienced every corner of Filbert St, I even remember when you could stroll around the pitch at half-time to go from one goal to the other and every stand at the Walkers where the mix of fans doesn't seem to vary that much except for L1 and the back of the kop.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Hahahahahaha that's well funny! Not seen that before! There a month late mate!
lcfc_jme Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 I might send a few e-mails and hopefully try to be invited to one of these. I'm sure they'd love to have me on board and would enjoy my wild and wholly unrepresentative opinions.

Agreed, my season ticket is row PP (very back) so I stand all game in the kop but I always see people a few rows down getting told to sit down by the people sitting 3 rows from the back, these aren't season ticket holders, they're just people who appear at the odd game and can't stand it.

Theres a little group of us on row KK and LL, and we like to stand during the game. The stewarding is so inconsistent. Against Newcastle we were left free to stand, but other games we'll be told to sit, though they only ask once before they just leave you be. On Saturday there was a family with some kids, and we were standing up. the steward told us to sit because he and his kids couldnt watch the game. But to the mans credit, he actually ended up moving to a seat where his view wasn't blocked, using common sense rather than being a jobsworth. 'Appy days

leftsideoverhere Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 Some of you guys need to realise one day you'll get old too your priorties change and you may want to sit in the west stand as your not students anymore and some young 19 year old will say to you why dont you sing? Its not that bad in the west stand you might like it one day Tony. Plenty of us old gits (i.e. over 40) in the Kop, mate. Prob shout louder now than I did when I was 19. I don't think my priorities will ever change so much that I value a padded seat above a good sing-song at the football. If I want a padded seat with my entertainment I go to the cinema. But we'll see.
CosbehFox Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 A) That they would love to sit in the West stand, but they can't afford it. I said this a week a go. As along as the Kop remains the most cheapest part of the ground, the atmosphere will be dead there. Wasn't the case with Filbo cos the Kop had it's reptuation from it's the Pen days.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 16 February 2010 Posted 16 February 2010 I take all your points on board. I still goto some away games and enjoy the chanting and the banter, but I dont think I would ever sit in the kop areas at the Walkers. I think the view from my seat is pretty good I sit in the centre just above the dugout about 8 rows back. Back in the Filbo days the main stand was simililar to how it is now. But we weren't bothered if people from other stands made a noise or not as long as we enjoyed ourselves. It seems now people in the Kop areas want other areas of the ground to go mental etc. Its not going to happen. Im sure its the same at the Emirates or Pride Park etc too. There are a lot of families and old people in the West stand, and I just cant see them getting involved with chants etc. Some of you guys need to realise one day you'll get old too your priorties change and you may want to sit in the west stand as your not students anymore and some young 19 year old will say to you why dont you sing? Its not that bad in the west stand you might like it one day Tony. Hmm for some reason I feel that may be aimed at me after another thread about families where I made a similar sort of point (it probably isn't aimed at me but just in case). I never had a problem with people doing their own thing in the other stands. I just find it frustrating when you spend a fair amount of money and effort for the chance to go and see your team play, sit in the kop and then have some moaning bastard asking you to sit down and be quiet (effectively ruining the game) The kop is suppossed to be a place where people sing (even though it obviously isn't except for a few odd sections). If people want to be boring old farts watch the game in peace and observe it then that is down to them. Just the few that moan at me that I get annoyed about.

I have often said (not minuted) that there needs to be a part of the ground where there are no kids priced tickets. Like the old Kop. Don't stop kids, but make it so that the kids that are there are with parents who appreciate the atmosphere, don't mind the language, and are not there as happy clapper, day trippers.
taffyfox Posted 17 February 2010 Posted 17 February 2010 Sorry if I am being thick but.....why is there meshing between L and K blocks? Segregating L blockers from our own fans as well? Great banter last night at Brizzle...thats what you get when you have fans close to each other....good old days! I always stand in the Kop but seriously considering a move to L or K...... L always sold out...is the atmosphere as good in K?

The club and some of the fans with STs there get a bit precious about people with tickets for K or J squeezing up in L.
lcfc_jme Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Seriously, I would love this to happen. Who is it that I have to e-mail now that PJ has left the building? I'm really serious about getting on board so the sooner I send things off the better. It'll be awesome.
Jon the Hat Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Does no one consider that some people cannot stand up for 30 let alone 90 minutes? Even with a break? A little bit of consideration all round needed, we are all there to see the game.

From the minutes: BM asked that in the absence of a Supporter Relations Officer who would be the point of contact, LH advised it would be Tom Bettles or Fanzone.BM asked if Peter Jones would be coming back to work at the club.LH advised that there were no plans for this.

davieG Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 then they can go in an area of the ground where people don't wish to stand Hardly their fault though when it's advertised as an 'all seater' stadium. They don't say except for the Kop or L1

Raj Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Dont bother wasting your life away Jamie..... Most of the time they do what they wanna do anyway without consultation. Dont even give out sandwiches anymore....
lcfc_jme Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 From the minutes: Cheers 'Koko Epic fail not to spot it originally by me, though. Dont bother wasting your life away Jamie.....Most of the time they do what they wanna do anyway without consultation. Dont even give out sandwiches anymore.... Raj! I miss you. Gots to be done though. I know they don't listen on the whole but if they're not seeing actual living proof of what people are complaining about it's not going to even begin to help. Better for me to give things a go than to sit and moan but not be pro-active.
