The Dark Horses in race for Play-offs!

Recommended Posts

As with pretty much every season that has passed, a club makes a late bid for the Play-offs. This year will be no different, except this year has 3 dark horses in my opinion.

The first and most obvious has to be QPR, a new manager, a new chairman, 2 wins from 2 and a club that has been under performing considering the talent they have. Secondly, Reading, a good team that have just started to get moving and scoring goals. The Leicester game showed what a class act they were and now they are scoring, they will start showing their mettle, oh and not forgetting the 3 games in hand they have on most teams should they win them.

And finally, Coventry are going about their business very quietly and with little fanfare. I suspect if they keep winning, then other 2 can't do a lot about it but they should not be under-estimated.

A win on Saturday for Leicester is an absolute must, it will then mean Cardiff have the dubious honour of keeping the chasing pack at bay and relieve Leicester of a little bit of extra added pressure.

Clearly, when I posted this I was in the LCFC part of the Forum, it took an age to post and then ended up here?.

Can it be moved please?.. Gracias

... have you seen the league table?

If Reading win their games in hand they will be on 47 points, the same as Middlesbrough...Not an Impossible feat should one or two of the others flounder.

I remember Crystal Palace once being in an impossible position too!

Have to agree with Leicester Rule - can't past Cov, Blackpool, Boro and Sheff utd being the outside bets for the playoffs.

I think it'll be the four teams in there at the mo barring something catastrophic.

It's annoying to say it, but Cov are the ones to look out for at the moment.

Also look out Barnsley to upset a few of those above them as well

What a crazy first post! The amount of teams that would have to fall apart to let either one of QPR or Reading in makes it almost impossible for either to make it to the play-offs!

We should be worrying, if that, about Coventry though I'm sure their good run will come to an end soon, Middlesbrough but they seem to keep losing here and there, Sheffield United who continue to keep pressing but as with Middlesbrough, they seem to lose games just as often as we do and then Blackpool... I still can't get my head around why they are up near the play-offs... they will SURELY fall off the pace come the end of the season as they really are the worst team in the top 10.

Coventry are the in-form team right now, so they are the team to "fear" if you like.

Sheffield United are pretty inconsistent at the moment, Cardiff are up and down.

We need to look at Swansea rather than over our shoulders if we can.

I seem to remember they had two months more than reading do.

Cov are doing well but their goal difference is minus 6, and the teams they have turned over are all bottom 6 (palace, scunny, peterboro) in their recent run.

They have Plymouth on Saturday which should be another 3 points but we'll see just how good they when they goto the likes of Boro, Sheff Utd and of course come to us, a couple of injuries/suspensions and they are well and truly spannered, Morro broke Clingans toe at the Ricoh and they were lost without him for weeks. I reckon they'll go close but can't see them doing better than 7th.

Don't really see much change with the top 6 but if Cardiff do fall away then I wouldn't bet against Boro hitting some form and nicking the last spot.

Reading are way too far behind and are much much more likely to go down than get anywhere near the playoffs.

Coventry have won 5 of their last 6 games, but four of them have been 1-0, their luck will run out, we will beat them at the Walkers, they play West Brom away after playing us and they play Cardiff at home before they meet us, they are going to be dropping a lot of points.

They also have Sheffield United, Reading and Middlesbrough away left to play, so more points guaranteed to be dropped for Coventry, Cardiff, Sheffield United and M'Boro.

We will be comfortable in this playoff race, i also think Swansea are due a couple of defeats. We will be in the top six for the rest of the season and will probably end up finishing 4th or 5th, which would give us a game against one of the Welsh. Finishing 6th would mean Forest or West Brom which maybe better so the players wouldn't have to travel as far for the semi but Swansea and Cardiff are probably easier games.

What a lot of unfounded, speculative nonsense passed off as fact, in sweeping statements not seen since the last political party general election manifesto speeches.

Hope you're right though, 'tamepoodle'.

One of Boro, Coventry, Sheff U or Blackpool will definitely get in IMO because Cardiff for me are certain to drop out.

Blackpool have overachieved this season but are carrying momentum, and bloomfield is always a tough place to go to. Keeping players like Charlie Adam, Dobbie, and Taylor Fletcher fit will be absolutely crucial in their run in. But im thinking their luck must run out sooner or later, im not sure how long they can still punch way above their weight.

Coventry are bubbling under the radar nicely having hit good form. Bags of options up front with the likes of Morrison, Baker, Jon Stead. Have crept up the table almost unnoticed and will need to finish the season in strong fashion too. Their run has seen them take points from the lower teams though and whether they can compete with the West Broms and other playoff rivals is a big question. They will probably miss out narrowly

Sheff U..........a good chance. Inconsistent though.

Boro are the team to cause danger IMO . have underachieved so far this season, but look at their squad! any squad that can boast players like Wheater, O'neill, Lita, Barry Robson, Aliadiere, i mean theres some SERIOUS talent in that squad. Strachan must surely be the man to get the best from them in the last quarter of the season and surely they are the team to make the run. Fancy them in the tyne-tees derby on saturday and i think that could be the catalyst to kick them on into the playoffs.

From the 'obvious 4' i cant look past Boro personally

I think Warnock will get QPR closer than Sheff U or Middlesboro' who are both totally unreliable.

Good shout, I forgot about Colin willy puller and his QPR hoops.

Got to agree with you. I've got a feeling they will make a good go of it and the momentum is with them.

Reading thrash Derby 4-1 that's some roll there on, I certainly wouldn't bet against them making a late dash and contrary to many on here I don't think it's that outrageous.

Top of the current form table http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/league-championship/2009-2010/form-table/full

I think that's before tonight's results now 2 games in hand over Middlesboro' with 2 games in hand.

Their next 3 games are Bristol (H), QPR (H); Middlesboro' (H). Something's got to give there.

Really?....You should read a little more carefully.

Reading making a late dash is not as daft as it sounds people..
