Mee Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 Sorry if this has already been posted / and or already been heard of, but i have just came across this saying Waghorn is not for sale and we won't really be able to buy him http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6003091,00.html
Ozwin Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 Hopefully just a technique used to bump up the price when the time comes.
Jay Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 every player is for sale no matter what is said, you just have to offer the right price
Mee Posted 13 March 2010 Author Posted 13 March 2010 Hopefully, i hope NP does sign him, he looks so promising, How much do you all 'reckon he would go for?
Ozwin Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 The thing that worries me is that other teams might have a beady eye on him too now.
Maybes Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 Hopefully, i hope NP does sign him, he looks so promising, How much do you all 'reckon he would go for? Exactly which is why Bruce would like to keep him. Unless we offered silly money - which lets face it would be foolish and is not going to happen then he wont be joining us.
Mee Posted 13 March 2010 Author Posted 13 March 2010 I suppose, if Waggy did go though, NP does have a good eye for spotting young talent and such, Lets hope he could get another player in to fill his boots, But while we have him, he is doing well, made such an improvement
Edmund Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 I think any deal will rest on wether we sign Alex Bruce permanently in the summer
Dan Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 The thing that worries me is that other teams might have a beady eye on him too now. Realistically, if he would leave Sunderland then I doubt he'd leave for the kind of side interested in him over Leicester.
Ozwin Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 If they offer something we can't he would have to. The ball's in his court anyway really, a manager can't keep a player against his will really so if Waghorn wants to leave (which I genuinely think he will, he looks to have made a bond with the club) then we might be onto a winner. Also, I love the guy and it makes me a sad puppy to think anything other than him being with us next season.
glennthefox Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Meh... Gradel "wasn't for sale"... granted, a slightly different situation - league1/championship, prem/championship, but just goes to show what can happen when a player settles in at a club. He seems to really like it here. I don't see him getting into the machem starting 11 anytime soon with Bent, K.Jones and Campbell there... it won't do him any good sitting on the bench for hefty chunks of the season. For me, if he's fit (here), he starts...no brainer. I don't see why he wouldnt want to give it a go at city, we all know where this club wants to be, and ,(hopefully) is heading. The lad is quality, bags of potential. I'm quietly optimistic NP can pull something out the bag. Heres fooking hoping anyway... and props to this guys sig ^^^
MPH Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 If we get promoted it will be a dead cert he will sign - we will have the money AND can promise him much more regular footy than sunderland can... However i still cant contemplate us getting promoted.. the pain of then failing to would hurt!
JoeyB Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 For me it depends where we are next season, if were still in the championship he'd be a good player to target, but if were in the prem we would need to be buying better players, so that we have a chance of staying up!
Ozwin Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 and props to this guys sig ^^^ Oh, you! I'm glad someone noticed!
davieG Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 From the Merc: Nigel Pearson has hinted he may try to prise striker Martyn Waghorn away from Sunderland in the summer. Waghorn has been a massive success at City during his season-long loan, scoring 12 goals and earning the club's young player of the year award. He is also a firm favourite with the City fans, who regularly chant "sign him up" during games. But Waghorn is set to return to the Stadium of Light at the end of City's play-off campaign and Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has said he wants the 20-year-old as one of his first-team strikers next season. That could change if City win the play-offs, get into the Premier League and are in a financial position to make Sunderland an offer – and Pearson said he could not rule anything out. However, Pearson would not elaborate as he focuses on City's play-off semi-final first leg against Cardiff City at the Walkers Stadium on Sunday. "It is a loan until the end of the season, however long that is, and then after that who knows," he said. "It has been a success for both clubs. We have had a player who has developed with us over the season and, for Steve, it has been worthwhile because he is getting a player back who has had a full season of first-team football. "Let's not rule anything out, but, at the moment, I don't want to spend any time talking about it. There is no point elaborating and speculating too much. "We are not there yet. We can address that at some point."
easilee Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 Hmmm. Stringer has just hinted at some good news that he will tell us all about tomorrow. Did it in his usual 'I know something you don't know' way. Tw@t Probably more to do with NP's contract.
AyewJoking Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 Sunderland just want to cash in. I'll eat my hat if Waghorn plays regularly for Sunderland in the prem next season.

easilee Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 Scrap any of those previous suggestions. Just Strings waffling on about nothing and hyping it up to the Nth degree, and i caught the tail end it. Soz if i got anyones hopes up.
MrSpaM Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 Reported in the LM today that Pearsons going to make an offer at the end of the season, all looks like it'll rest on if we go up or not though. I think the only way were getting him is if we pay over the odds, we'd need promotion to do that.

Flynny Posted 6 May 2010 Posted 6 May 2010 I think the most likely scenario if we go up is us having him on another season's loan. If we don't he'll probably try to get a game at Sunderland and end up having another six months with us (or another championship club if we're already settled at this point) from January.
Matt Posted 8 May 2010 Posted 8 May 2010 Steve Bruce has said it would have to be a "ridiculous" offer to convince him to sell Martyn Waghorn to Leicester City. The 20-year-old striker is due to return to the Black Cats after City's play-off campaign, but boss manager Nigel Pearson said he would not rule anything out over Waghorn's future. If City get promoted, there could be a bid to buy the 12-goal striker and City's young player of the year, but Bruce has warned it would take a big offer to tempt him to sell a player who he said had "become a man" at Leicester. He said: "If they get up, who knows? But I don't really want to sell one of my young players. How do you put a price on young Waggy? "I've earmarked him as my fourth striker so unless it's absolutely totally ridiculous money I don't think I'll be tempted at all. "The reports I've got back on him have been excellent. He's become a man all of a sudden and the reports are really good. "To be playing as well as he is in front of 30,000 at a club like Leicester and be young player of the year… why would I want to sell him?" C'mon Alex do us a favour, tell your dad he's shit and he should sell him to us.
