City Lack Leaders According to Walshy

Walshy makes a a few good points in his latest blog...

"The 2-2 draw against Cov was a classic game of two halves. City tore them to shreds in the first-half and deserved their two-goal lead, but Coventry just wanted it more after the interval and we couldn’t stop them.

"For me, it’s times like that where we lack genuine leaders and characters in the side. Someone who can stand up, dish out a few a rollickings and inspire the lads to grind out a result. This Leicester City team is playing some of the best football I’ve seen at the Walkers Stadium, and possibly better than a lot of the stuff I saw and played in at Filbert Street.

"The way they pass the ball around is perhaps at times better than during the Martin O’Neill era, but the current side don’t know how to grind it out like we did. I think in the future, Jack Hobbs will be that sort of character and a natural captain of the club, but at the moment, that’s something we’re lacking."

'White chocolate' as I've been told I look a bit like the milky bar kid!

I am pretty pasty to be fair... I get nose bleeds if it's too sunny.

Anyway, I agree, we have ground out plenty of results, but when things start going wrong...Forest away, Bristol City, Cov... it doesn't seem as though we've got a leader who can react to it.

I think Hobbs will be a quailty captain in the future.

Cheers,

Chocwha.

Everything Walshy writes basically boils down to " City arent as good without me in the side" " I was city through and through blah blah blah" :D

I'm a fan of Walshys blog in the soar, he speaks a lot of sense. I don't think he comes across like that at all.

He is right in what he's saying. Our captain Oakley isn't your usual run of the mill leader but is a great captain in his own way. I'm not saying all captains should be vocal and nasty as Oakley has proved to be very competent in doing his job but you still need some sort of bite in the spine of the side. I think Wayne Brown is the closest player in that mould.

I thought we had ground out quite a few results this season.

True, but I can see where Walsh is coming from. In fact a myself and a few other City fans were talking about on the field leadership just last night. Perhaps its just trying to find some kind of reason for the last couple of blips but it's something that is a valid discussion.

I personally think it's nothing major to worry about, we were going to have a dip in form some time again, but maybe we could do with Oakley being a tad more vocal?

Agree with Walshy in a sense. We NEED someone like Elliott on the pitch who will boss the team around and get them going when we're under pressure. At the moment, there's nobody like that.

Hobbs as he points out will be the natural choice as he looks like he's going to be the next Elliott which is brilliant... but right now, we have no-one.

I agree 110% with Walshy. If only we had a player like him in the side.

We lack leadership, and discipline on the field. We just don't have a dominant player in defense, and goals are being given away of late.

Agreed but I wonder if the issue of leadership also extends to the sidelines. Pearson remains too conservative in my view, and I get the impression that some players are playing to strict instructions rather than responding to the game as it unfolds.

I have suggested on a number of occasions that the one chink in Pearson's otherwise formidable armour is his team set up and match day tactics, a view that quite understandably given our achievements this season has fallen on deaf ears!...

A good read!

Put Brown back in the team. His distribution may not be great but he's the only real leader we've got.

I agree 100% and I don't just think it's shout people down - I think when we're on the backfoot and drop deep we need someone with a bit of passion that's going to give people some belief and drive them forward

'Sav has resorted to taking the free-kicks, going in goal and doing whatever he can to grab the headlines and get as much attention as possible. I heard old Pelican ‘ed did alright between the posts the other week, to be fair. He probably tipped a few over with his nose!'

Yes.

Yes but;

Do we want to go where he is taking us?

Wayne Brown is an awful footballer and no leader. The ability to shout doesnt make you a good leader. Anyone at Hillsborough will agree that Wayne is no leader and certainly no footballer. Clarke gave him the run around all afternoon. Brown response as a leader? Kick him and get him self booked, like a teenage pre-madonna.

We may lack a leader on the pitch, but aren't we currently 4th in the table and could be pushing for promotion to the Premier League?

The mastermind of this campaign is the manager.

And how many leaders do you actually need?

Posted

It's all about experience. There are players in that team with the raw attributes to inspire the side, particularly in Hobbs, Morrison, possibly even Waghorn if we were to keep him. If we can keep the side together, they'll grow.

We dont have a real leader someone that if were losing to just calm it down we dont have anyone who can do that i think oakley is a great player but he cant do it the closest is nobby

I’m sure I would’ve been on the end of plenty of stick from the Derby fans, but I would’ve had two fingers ready for them… to signify the brace I bagged against them at Wembley in 1994, of course! I’m was planning to take a load of signed photos of me wheeling away under the Twin Towers celebrating my winner. I’m sure the Rams fans would’ve taken a few off my hands!

fooking love it ! Goo on Walshy !
