Kilworthfox Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 McKinlay and Summerbee. And Iwan Roberts, with teeth missing. Maybe Trevor Benjamin and Stan Collymore holding fire extinguishers? What about DJ holding a knife? How about Frank Sinclair, Keith Gillespie & Paul Dickov with their todgers out?
Zingari Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 How about Frank Sinclair, Keith Gillespie & Paul Dickov with their todgers out? do we really want to see erections such as this outside the stadium ?
Corky Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 The bloke running onto the pitch to confront Ian Walker?
Zingari Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 " Mac" tearing up his season ticket and throwing at the directors
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 Forgive my ignorance but were Gordan Bank's best day in a Stoke shirt? He played 100 games more for Leicester than he did for Stoke yet they have him down as 'theirs' if you will. He won the world cup when he was playing for Leicester so I'm a bit confused. Banks became a world superstar here at Leicester. He was still at his peak when Peter Shilton was a rising star. There was no way we could keep two superb players, and because Shilton was much younger, he was considered the better long term option. Thus, Gordon went to Stoke, and continued to be a superb keeper. It is little wonder Stoke make out he was one of their own, as he was so brilliant. Peter, as you know followed Banksy into the England team. Of the two, Gordon was the better, as his anticipation of where the ball would go, was out of this world, and his acrobatic style was a joy to behold. Even today, the great Brazilian , Pele, cannot believe the point black shot, that looked 100% a certain goal. Gordon twisted, and threw himself backwards across the the goal lin, and punched the thundering shot over the bar. Pure "LEGEND"
Guest DavidJCW Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 Tony James for that final day goal against Oxford , which kept us from going into the third tier .Good record until Allen , megson and Holloway fooked it up . Dont blame Ollie as much , think he just inherited a shit side . I think you're completely forgetting the twat that started it all... Taylor! I'd go for Banks... seen footage of him and he was amazing, better than any shit we have playing for England these days.
Aumski Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 i say we have a statue on each corner and in the away entrance we have jobber with a battleaxe with "welcome to hell" written on him matt elliot, o'neil, shilton, if nigel's here for 5years and keeps us in the prem, then get him up. i see nigel kinda like o'neil, he makes good cheap signings or use's the loan market and get's us promoted(maybe twice in a row), or nearly promoted, and will push on if we do, into a midtable club. maybe...i'm dreaming but jsut maybe 5 years uefa. 10years, top 4. 13 years prem winners, 15 years champions league winners. if that did happen, i wud say make the damn statue of n.p 50ft with a gold plated forehead.
Ozwin Posted 27 April 2010 Posted 27 April 2010 and in the away entrance we have jobber with a battleaxe with "welcome to hell" written on him That made me laugh probably more than it should have.

Jimothy Posted 29 April 2010 Posted 29 April 2010 Should be of Ian Ormondroyd celebrating Walsh's winner against Derby.

Edmund Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 If Mandaric ever wants a cheap statue of himself there's one going in Southampton
Sampson Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 Forgive my ignorance but were Gordan Bank's best day in a Stoke shirt? He played 100 games more for Leicester than he did for Stoke yet they have him down as 'theirs' if you will. He won the world cup when he was playing for Leicester so I'm a bit confused. He really started to hit his prime about the end of the 1961/62 season. His best days was probably split equally between City and Stoke. I think what davieg says about our club ignoring him (not the fans necessarily, just the club never really giving him as much credit and accolades as he deserved) is true though, Stoke still constantly romanticise about his 1972 League Cup semi final performance, yet our club barely even mentions his 1963 FA Cup semi final performance which was equally heroic, and that says it all really. He still played the majority of his career for City though and was idolised by the fans at the time. I still think selling him and Dougan was the worst thing Gillies ever did. Shilton went on to great things, but as a 16 year old, you really cannot fill the boots of the best keeper British football has probably ever seen. The side was never the same for me after he went.
Sampson Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 Agree, statues aren't about acknowledging the best technical football that has played for the club. Walsh represents the beginning of the golden era for the club, and was the common denominator in much of that spell. Surprise, surprise, that era ended when Taylor booted him out (agmonst other reasons ofcourse). Ask most fans - he's got the "hero" status. My other argument, from a commercial point of view - who would have more appeal to general public in terms of getting them to visit the ground and spend their tourist cash in the club shop... Lineker for me. I don't think the 90's were "the golden era" of the club, personally, for me the 60's were a far more successful era. I'm sure my granddad's era would say the 1920's were even more successful. The point is we've not really had a stand out golden era and the 90's era could easily be equalled or bettered by anyone in the near future, even by the current management staff who I rate very highly indeed. Leicester have been a top half First Division side many times in their history and I'm not sure a couple of League Cup wins will really stand the test of time in the same way Bill Nicholson has at Spurs or Stan Cullis has at Wolves, for example. Anyway, statues should not be about commercial gain and I don't see why building a statue of a player would bring people to the ground and buy things in the shop anyway. The thing is statues will be around for centuries, that's the point. Who knows if Walsh's name will still be associated with the club that much even in 40 years time, let alone 100 when everyone who saw him play is dead and buried? I use the example of Dave Gibson who was a hero for the club in the 60's but barely gets mentioned among the greats anymore. The fact that someone like Arthur Chandler's name is still widely known even though hardly anyone is old enough to have seen him play shows the kind of longevity that is needed to be given a statue. Players like Rowley and Chandler are in the record books and their records will never likely be broken. Banks is one of the most acclaimed footballers in the history of the game and Lineker and Shilton are two of the most acclaimed footballers in the history of the English game too. I'm not sure whether Walsh's name will quite last as long as any of theirs really.
jonthefox Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 we would need something on the lines of man yoo's holy trinity at this rate, which i understand cost over £100,000. I still think that banks , shilton (as in THAT photo), would prove popular.
jonthefox Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 seems you dont have to do too much to get one. http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2010/02/23/1802472/statue-of-real-madrids-cristiano-ronaldo-appears-in-city

I still think that banks , shilton (as in THAT photo), would prove popular. I think the holy trinity statue would have cost a lot more than that. I remember Southampton fans had to raise about £120,000 for that Ted Bates statue that ended up looking fvck all like him so they pulled it down.

Agreed the 60s were easily our best era for any older supporter although the 20s were possiblly better but how many supporters are living from that era. The best example is when we lost to Man United in the cup final it was a big shock . The strength of the league was such that a Man U side as strong if not better than todays were fighting relegation.
jonthefox Posted 7 May 2010 Posted 7 May 2010 found this. maybe this is the way we should be heading. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.nydailynews.com/features/thestadium/img/monumentpark-660.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.nydailynews.com/features/thestadium/the_stadium/monumentpark.html&usg=__yRKA9PI_SK9PNhk3vZsjVMNagrU=&h=361&w=660&sz=190&hl=en&start=1&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=d8OXHZ7edJgLmM:&tbnh=75&tbnw=138&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmonument%2Bpark%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26rlz%3D1T4SNYK_en-GB___GB333%26tbs%3Disch:1
