Oakley to Peterborough rumour

Can't see him going for 500k. But he may go for lower.

500k Would be an amazing deal when you think about it

Would be a good deal all round. It would get a big earner off our wage bill, and would be a good signing for

Peterborough, he was excellent for us last year in L1. I can't see there being much of a fee involved though.

Doubt he'd leave. He's blatantly on a good wedge here so I don't see why he wouldn't just sit out another year to pick up some wages. It's not like he's been totally frozen out here because he's completely dreadful, I don't think Pearson would be too distraught to see him stay personally.

If he has a desire to play then it could be a good move for everyone involved, although the fee seems high. He could do a job in league one, wouldn't be a bad way to sign off his career at his home town.

Think he's been a pretty good player for us. Made amends for being part of the squad that got relegated to League One by captaining us to promotion back to the Championship. Hs best years are clearly behind him and i wouldn't be too disappointed to see him leave which is more than likely to happen (and not for 500K lol )

Don't understand anyone slagging him off, he'd leave with my thanks for his contribution and best wishes for the future.

I don't know the bloke, but he doesn't seem the like the kind of person to do that. He and Howard left the Premier League to come join us and play football, so I reckon he would willingly move if he knew he was going to play elsewhere. As I say though, I'm just speculating about his character.

for all his faults Oakley does seem to be a rare footballer who's priority is simply to play games and enjoy himself, its not like Peterborough couldn't offer him around what he would of been on when we were in L1 anyway. Don't think he's good enough any more so let him go say thanks for his time here and build the team around the likes of Hobbs, Mozza, Gally & King

Sounds like you'll be getting a pretty good deal from us then if we pay 500k. we could do with the experience though to get us back into the championship, and hopefully to stay there

He'll do a good job for you in League 1, he did for us last season.

£500k for Oakley is a decent buy.

Oakley would be/was good in league 1 so i can see this being true. Would be a good move for him too as i highly doubt he will be getting in our team next season.

I wouldn't mind seeing Boyd in a city shirt. Hopefully we can use Oakley in a money plus player deal.

Peterborough are desperate to get rid and are currently touting him around for £2,000,000.

Didn't really make an impact at Forest, maybe he's one these players who thrives best as a big fish in a small pond so perhaps not ideal for us. Just speculating. :dunno:

He's 33 soon. I would think he's looking for one last big pay day. If Posh offer him less in wages than what he's already on, I believe he would rather sit behind the dugout at the Walkers every week and collect his wages. He's not 25 anymore, he's coming towards the end of his career.

I don't think he'd be happy to sit on the bench and pick up his wages at all, he doesn't strike me as that kind of person, I think he'd rather retire than do that, Wasn't their a thread a while back about him saying he was really looking forward to being able to run his wine business full time? and iirc judging by some of the prices on the website I hardy think he's struggling for a few bob.

True but i didn't think he got much of a chance there. He looked pretty sharp on his debut for them though.

I personally think £2,000,000 is a little steep but still class him as a quality player.

He did, however, dismiss suggestions that locally-born midfielder Matthew Oakley was the club’s target. Posh boss Gary Johnson also insisted he had no interest in Oakley.

End of that one then.

Apparantly they are after Weso too.

Oakley would do well for them. I would honestly keep him, as even if he sits on the bench, someone with his experience is always needed. People say he has been a shit captain, but he captained us to the title in 2009 and to a play-off place for the majority of 2009-10 so his record speaks for itself.

Would be a good deal all round.

Oakley has served us well, but as proved at the end of the season, he won't be getting much pitch time next season if we are looking to repeat the success of this season. He will want to play games and Peterborough will be able to offer this to him.

A good deal for both clubs, but I would expect the fee to be around the 200k mark to be honest.

500k is a massive over-price for Oakley.

I would wish him all the best and say thanks for helping the club through a terrible period. A top man, who unfortunetly for him, hasn't got the physical attributes to play in the Championship anymore.
