Narborough_fox Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Martyn Waghorn says the Leicester City supporters have made his time at the club so much more enjoyable, as the Foxes' Young Player of the Year quickly established himself as a fans' favourite during his loan spell at the Walkers Stadium. In an impressive debut season Waghorn scored twelve goals, and made a vital contribution as City reached the play-off semi finals. Waghorn became an instant hit with the Foxes' faithful after scoring on his home debut against Swansea on the opening day of the Championship season. The 20 year old is now set to return to Sunderland, and whilst his future may be unclear, Waghorn says he will always be grateful to Leicester's fans. "The fans have been fantastic with me, they've cheered us on, they loved us and supported us and that's brilliant for a young lad coming on loan. The fans have been there for me, and I'll always respect them for that." Waghorn has enjoyed his first season of regular first team action and insists he'll always reflect fondly on the 2009/10 campaign, despite a heartbreaking conclusion in South Wales as Leicester were beaten by Cardiff on penalties in the play-off semi finals. "In a word it's been exciting, in a sentence Leicester is an absolutely fantastic club, I'll be sad to see it go but if I stay I'm more than happy to. The club is moving in the right direction, and I wish them all the best for the future." You can watch the full interview with Martyn Waghorn on Foxes Player over the next week. It's been our pleasure Martyn!
StanSP Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 if I stay I'm more than happy to. There's a glimmer of hope if ever there was one!
KFS Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Wait. It must be down to the clubs then. I think Sunderland are talking his price up too. Must be the message i left to him on his Facebook message to us that made him think Thank me when he's back in the Summer.

iancognito Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Sunderland have got 4 strikers already and unless Bruce loses Jones or Bent in the summer I can't see a reason why they wouldn't let Waggy come on loan again. The only note of caution is that we'd need to snap him up for next season before anyone else does. We're not the only ones that have noticed how good he is.
KFS Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 I just keep thinking the boy is delusional, were offering him constant football. But then I realise that I would happily bench warm for City. Maybe he doesn't want to be injured? It could be his family, i did a bit of background research and his family seem quite keen on having him back
Guest Bilo Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 He certainly isn't ruling out a return there is he? It's actually pretty neutral over all, with him not really nailing his colours to either a Leicester or a Sunderland mast. If his contract really is up for renewal this summer as many seem to believe it is, there is real hope there.
Kibworth Fox Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 It would be great to see Waghorn sign a permenant contract for City. It's down to whether Bruce still wants him in his 1st team squad next season (which he said he does), we should hope and pray that Sunderland sign a couple of forwards during the summer and we can find the money that they want for him. I'm keeping everything crossed!!
Kibworth Fox Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 We'd have to shift a couple of players to fund at least 1 of them i reckon. Don't think Milan will want to splash that amount of money.
Narborough_fox Posted 18 May 2010 Author Posted 18 May 2010 Just thinking if £2 million means £90 million surely Milan would splash out!
Guest Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Just thinking if £2 million means £90 million surely Milan would splash out! You should take this season as evidence that that isn't necessarily MMs way of thinking. I seem to remember him saying of we were around the playoffs in Jan then money would be made available to buy new players, then by Jan when we were there NP had to trot out the 'there's no money to spend' line
Matt Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 I'm going to state the obvious here but no-one else has done in this thread yet so I will. He's stuck in the middle, He's from Sunderland and supports Sunderland (Presumably) he want's to play for his home-town club understandable currently he is there 4 choice striker but Bruce has said he may give him a chance next season so Waghorn wants to give it a go see if he could break into the team and live his boyhood dream, however he's had a great season at Leicester, knows he could get first team football here, the fans have great affection for him and the feeling mutual so he'd like to stay here aswell as go back to Sunderland and give it a go, obviously he can only choose one and having a contract at Sunderland he is tied to them. The way I see it is if we made an offer and it was accepted by Sunderland he'd end up coming here because when a club accepts and offer you know its time to go and a sign you're not going to be played, If we make and offer and Sunderland turned it down he's stay, obviously, nothing we can do about it - Apart from up the offer. However if it gets to halfway through the season and he hasn't had a sniff of first team football I think he may request a transfer and we'll step in again - I just hope we can offer enough for Sunderland to accept and no other team jumps in before us. I suppose there is the other option of us making a loan bid and Sunderland accepting/turning down. Good god...I sound like Maddog and his predictions/covering every obvious scenario, then probably none of them happening.

RowlattsFox Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 I'd be so pissed off if Sunderland say he aint for sale but then he goes on loan to another Championship side. Hope to see Waggy play at The Walkers again so he can get the reception he deserves.
Webbo Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 He's a Man U fan In that case he can piss off. We'll sign Vaughn instead.
Carlos9 Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Imagine the cheer he will get on the first game of the season if he signs for us. We should go all out and break the bank for him, it would pay off in the long run!

So if EVERY Leicester supporter gave in around £5.00, And add that to whatever we offered in the first place, then we would get him.
