Les-TA-Jon Posted 1 June 2010 Author Posted 1 June 2010 Id go James Johnson Terry Ferdinand A Cole Lennon Lampard Barry J Cole Gerrard Rooney This! Although Barry won't play first game - Plus Capello will likely continue to use Heskey and Ignore Crouch - only going to see him when we're losing with 10 mins left methinks
sdb Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 My XI would be Hart Johnson Terry Rio Cole Lennon Barry (maybe King as holding mid for the 1st game, if his legs could take it?!) Lamps Gerrard Rooney Hesk basically the system that got us here so easily
Tommeh Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 Hart Johnson King Ferdinand Cole Barry Lampard Lennon Rooney J.Cole Heskey

Mee Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 Interesting post..... Hart Johnson Terry King ColeLennon Lampard Barry MilnerGerrardRooney If I was picking the team. Agree with this. Barry will probably miss first game though, but im sure he will be back for mid group stage.
ScouseFox Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 James Johnson - Ferdinand - King - A. ColeLennon - Lampard - Gerrard - J. ColeHeskey - Rooney
Bert Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 Hart Johnson King Ferdinand Cole Barry Lampard Lennon Rooney J.Cole Heskey The first post that's made sense. Anyone who drops Rio or Terry, have a word with yourself.
marbelladave Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 James Johnson - Ferdinand - King - A. ColeLennon - Lampard - Gerrard - J. ColeHeskey - Rooney Apart from Terry instead of King that is very likely going to be the starting line up against USA. Maybe Milner for Joe Cole but that's about it. Lampard and Gerrard in central midfield is a joke and has been for about 6 years. Sadly (for us) they may actually look reasonably competent in the Group matches against very average opposition only to be hopelessly exposed by the first decent side we meet in the knock out.
marbelladave Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 We need to play to our (very limited) strengths and try and get back to the way we played in qualification. This means that Heskey has to lead the line! Yeah I know, but consider this, in the last 10 games where Rooney and Heskey have started Rooney has scored 9 times, in the last 10 games Rooney has started without Heskey he has scored just twice. Support Heskey with Rooney and Gerrard, pretty much as we did last year, just drop any pretense that Gerrard will do anything on the left and make other provisions to provide cover on that flank. Solid 3 man midfield of Lampard, Barry and Milner to cover the back 4 and look after the ball, width comes from the full backs who are so good getting forward that wide men just get in the way. James plus the usual back 4, I am well aware of the problems but they remain our best bet because of their experience as a unit. So; James Johnson-Ferdinand-Terry-ColeLampard-Barry-MilnerRooney-GerrardHeskey Lennon, Defoe and Joe Cole as impact subs.
Dames Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 The Team will be: Green Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole Lennon Lampard Barry Gerrard Rooney Heskey We all know deep down if Barry is fit that will be the team that starts.

poopbutt Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Green Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole SWP Lampard Milner Gerrard Rooney Heskey i don't see barry being fit. Maybe lennon over milner
Guest NGoloMode Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 The Team will be: Green Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole Lennon Lampard Barry Gerrard Rooney Heskey We all know deep down if Barry is fit that will be the team that starts. This will be the team except maybe the goalkeeper which could be anyone. Capello will probably start with Crouch against the lesser teams as they can't defend against him in set-pieces. USA game is an exception because of Barrys injury though .

dandannieldanok Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 The Team will be: Green Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole Lennon Lampard Barry Gerrard Rooney Heskey We all know deep down if Barry is fit that will be the team that starts. Yea I reckon Capello will go for that. Should easily be good enough to get us through the group. I personally would like: James Johnson Terry Ferdinand © A Cole Lennon Lampard Gerrard J Cole Crouch Rooney
breadandcheese Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Hart Johnson-Ferdinand-Terry-ColeBarryLampard-------------GerrardLennon-----------------------ColeRooney Play a similar setup to Chelsea with Lampard playing the same role he does week in week out, Barry protecting defence and Gerrard in a similar role to Essien/Ballack. Rooney up front ploughing the line, with lennon providing pace on the right to get forward and provide width, Cole to get down the left flank.

ScouseFox Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Ferdinand Injury Scare The centre-back, 31, hurt his left knee towards the end of Friday's first session at their Rustenburg base."It was in a normal tackle and after he turned. It was the lateral (knee ligament). We'll have to wait for the scan," said England boss Fabio Capello.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Bad bad news this. Especially as the squad numbers suggest that Upson would be his replacement.
Matt Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Bad bad news this. Especially as the squad numbers suggest that Upson would be his replacement. Micheal Dawson apparently. England's World Cup plans have been thrown into chaos with Rio Ferdinand understood to have been ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury.Ferdinand was taken to hospital in South Africa for a scan after sustaining an injury to his left knee during the final moments of Friday's training session in Rustenburg. He left hospital on crutches and has since returned to England's training headquarters. Sportsmail understands Ferdinand will be sidelined for at least three weeks, ending any hopes of playing in the finals. Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is on his way to South Africa having been called up as an emergency standby. If Ferdinand is ruled out Dawson will take his place in Fabio Capello's 23-man squad. The news comes just eight days before England's World Cup campaign kicks off against the United States. Capello earlier told reporters: 'The bad news is in the last moment of the training, Rio suffered a problem with the knee. 'He has just gone to hospital for a scan. We hope it will not be so bad an injury but we have Michael Dawson on call. 'It came from a minor tackle during the training. How bad is it? We will have to wait and see.' Vice-captain Steven Gerrard will wear the captain's armband if Ferdinand is ruled out. Ferdinand had been optimistic of enjoying an injury-free World Cup after a season dogged by problems at Manchester United. He made just 21 appearances for his club this season, starting only 13 Premier League games, in a season disrupted by a back injury. However he had trained with no setbacks during England's two-week camp in Austria, and also came through the friendly internationals with Mexico and Japan unscathed. Goalkeeper David James also missed training but Capello is less concerned with that situation and insisted the 39-year-old had 'only a slight knee problem'. England play their first World Cup match next Saturday against the United States in Rustenburg on June 12. They then face Algeria and Slovenia in their next two group games, on June 18 and June 23.
ScouseFox Posted 4 June 2010 Posted 4 June 2010 Surely it'd be Ledley King for the first game if Rio's out. But if he's unable to play every game, then it's between Upson, Carragher & possibly Dawson if we get into the latter rounds, which makes this quite a big blow.
