marbelladave Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Just 10 hours to go and I am, to put it politely, still 'bricking it'. At the moment my emotions and expectations are all over the place, one minute desperate for England to put in a good performance and beat the septics with some style, the next looking for a hard won draw to give us a real dose of reality before the knock out stages. Generally teams that do well in tournaments start out slow and improve with every game, would hate to see us start with a bang and generally subside from there. Yes I know I'm rambling, but until we see how England shape up it is really very hard to say anything worthwhile but then I'm much too nervous to say nothing! Off to the gym to train shortly, hopefully the endorphins will kick in and leave me feeling more positive...
Mee Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Excited for this one, but then again i feel very apprehensive. Lets just hope that we can get a nice, comfortable win under our belts.

I appreciate that it'll be all "We're going to win the cup" if we win, but surely as an England supporter, you must want us to win every game? Excited.
Craig Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I had a dream last night about Heskey doing the business for us tonight.. 2-1 England.
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 What are the odds on rooney getting sent off? He's been acting like a baby in pretty much every game I've seen him in recently.
fatmando Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 What are the odds on rooney getting sent off? He's been acting like a baby in pretty much every game I've seen him in recently. After he was booked for dissent during England's practice match against the Platinum Stars, Sky Bet make Wayne Rooney a 25/1 shot to be sent off in England's World Cup opener against the USA on Saturday
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Not bad. I guess it depends if things are going well for england or not, or maybe if things are going well for rooney.

I want England to win the tournament, winning every game is not necessary! I know that is somewhat unrealistic but I want England to go as far as possible and to do this they need to be committed, confident and focused. I fear that several of England's senior players seem to be less than 100% committed, so for us to do well in the competition I think we may need a real shake up in attitude and possibly personnel. That will not happen unless England fall flat tonight, hence my thoughts about the positive aspects of a poor performance in tonight's game. I'm over thinking this, rambling too, I must be really nervous!

If you weren't a respected poster who often has an interesting slant on things then you would have been hung drawn and quartered for posts like this! Wanting a draw is ridiculous. We need to start strongly and build from there. A convincing win will be the best possible way to begin, nothing else will come close.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I had a dream we lost 3-0 to the USA, and drew 3-3 with Slovenia, and for some reason found out both results on a screen at a train station. No idea where the Algeria game disappeared too. Strange.

As I said, nervous and rambling, not quite a capital offence I would have thought... Having cunningly arranged for Mrs M to be away this weekend I am pottering round the house in something of a funk, trying to stay well clear of the drinks fridge. Still 6 hours to go, I am going to be a serious mess come kick off time. Strangely I am more nervous today than I was for the Championship play offs, God knows why, maybe the extended build up?... If I was thinking clearly I would try and explain my post, there is some logic to it believe it or not but at for now I will let it pass...

BlueSi13 Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Easily the banana skin of our group tonight, my hope is that we hit them hard from the kick off and grab a goal in the first 20 mins, the last thing we want is to be held at 0-0 or god forbid be losing by half time as this will give the US incredible heart to maybe feel they can cause a major upset We should have no fear tonight, on paper this game shouldn't even be close but the US proved with their march to the final of the Confederations Cup last year (despite being atrocious to begin with) they are no mugs... So come on England, grab an early goal and we can go on for a good solid opening win...just don't start slowly and give the Americans hope and belief that they can stun us... My prediction is 2-1 to England
shen Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 USA V England update... The FA have issued a special commemorative England shirt to mark tonight's historic encounter (available now from ASDA). Accept no imitations! If the crest is not a 100% reproduction of the logo below the garment is counterfeit: The logo should be mounted on the following image: The shirt is only available in aquamarine. Quite tasteless but I admit it made me smile

I don't buy all this Rooney lack of discipline nonsense. The media have blown it out of proportion. You'd be wasting your money
lavrentis Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Come on England. 2-0 win to get us to a solid start.

Edmund Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I haven't bet it, I'm leaving England matches alone. After your success in the 2020 wc please can you place a bet on the US winning
Tilley Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Mixture of nerves and excitement at the minute, can't wait for it, quietly confident we'll win 2/3-1.
