lcfcsnow Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Well Lampard and SWP had shockers tonight, can't see us making it out of the group if we continue with them. Got to agree with Fosse Fox views about Lampard.
Jonezy Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 No worries England, you will only get better and you only drew because of a silly mistake. Carragher looked a bit exposed, but overall solid defensively and looking dangerous on the attack, which is a good mix for success. Heads up!
The Doctor Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 well that was a good open game, nice play from both sides at times. Lennon & Wright-phillips were very poor, rooney had no impact at all and with the chances both teams had, a draw was a fair result. Bloody ITV though with their timing of ad breaks, seem to remember them doing that a couple of years back in the FA Cup, Get it sorted.
lavrentis Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Disappointed, only a few players turned up. I think Heskey played well but I'd bring him on in the second half. For the next match I'd start Gerrard instead of Heskey just behind Rooney and play Joe Cole in the midfield with James Milner, Lampard and Lennon. Need to have more of an attacking mindset.
Corky Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 There was positives and negatives from that. Disappointed not to win it but it's not the end, still six points to play for. The important thing now is no knee-jerk reactions.

Dames Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I bet Theo Walcotts sitting at home thinking 'How on earth did he get in infront of me.' Why Joe Cole wasn't brought on instead is illogical. Wright-Phillips is nothing but poor touches and blind alley runs. Lampard had a crap game... like he does at EVERY major tournament he's played in. Rooney was no-where to be seen. Spent way too much time hanging around in the centre circle instead of playing up front. Heskey played a blinder, shame he tired out. The rest of them were average.
The Doctor Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 What?! Lennon had a great game. I don't remember he getting his head down and running at the defence at anytime and his final ball wasn't upto much either. Not anywhere near as poor as wright-phillips but i'd have expected better from him.
marbelladave Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Just 10 hours to go and I am, to put it politely, still 'bricking it'. At the moment my emotions and expectations are all over the place, one minute desperate for England to put in a good performance and beat the septics with some style, the next looking for a hard won draw to give us a real dose of reality before the knock out stages. Generally teams that do well in tournaments start out slow and improve with every game, would hate to see us start with a bang and generally subside from there. Yes I know I'm rambling, but until we see how England shape up it is really very hard to say anything worthwhile but then I'm much too nervous to say nothing! Off to the gym to train shortly, hopefully the endorphins will kick in and leave me feeling more positive... Be careful what you wish for..... In fact that was probably worse than I suspected. We were woeful in every single respect, team selection and setup just plain wrong, defense pedestrian and lacking confidence, ball retention non existent, creative forward play negligible. God, we were bad. And some of it so predictable....
coale39 Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Green looked nervous before the howler johnson had a good game along with terry and cole. Carrager to slow really. Thought Lampard played alright tonight, few shots on target passing good. Gerrard started off great but tailed off. SWP not composed enough, too many blind alleys, lennon bit better. Rooney quiet for most of the game, but started to sharpen up towards the end. Dont want Heskey starting again, too limited a player Crouch instead please. Would like J Cole coming on in the next match.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Lennon needs to take people on more, instead of hurrying the ball to the nearest player. He should take a leap out of Glen Johnson's book. Green will not start next game. I'd be willing to bet alot of money on it.
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I'm just pissed that something stupid always seems to happen.
Frost Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 What?! Lennon had a great game. Absolutely dreadful performance in the second half. The US are shite, we just didn't do enough to put away 'easy' opposition. Heskey, Johnson & Gerrard were the only men to come out of the game with any credit. Hart for Green.
The Doctor Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Absolutely dreadful performance in the second half. The US are shite, we just didn't do enough to put away 'easy' opposition. Heskey, Johson & Gerrard were the only men to come out of the game with any credit. Hart for Green. the US are hardly shite, first team to beat spain in the something like 3 years last summer and running brazil close in the Confed. cup.

Heskey, Johnson & Gerrard were the only men to come out of the game with any credit. Hart for Green. Second half, fair enough he was a bit anonymous. Still one great ball for Heskey though. Put numerous dangerous balls in in the first half. SWP was disappointing, Joe Cole should start really. Much more assured. Heskey was great but I don't think he needs to play in the next game.
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I was going to go on the usa pre match thread on the bigsoccer forum, but already had 1,200 replies, pretty popular. I'll just reiterate what I thought would happen in the group, the USA would win it england 2nd and we'll get knocked out in the next stage. But apart from tonight my predictions are somewhat....er......shit!
Corky Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Hope that Joe Cole gets an involvement against Algeria.
AyewJoking Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 Three Lions? Wet pu$$ies more like! Brilliant start but fukin bottled it against the USA of all teams! Lampard and Gerrard too sometimes pulled out of 50/50 challenges that they should be going into as if their lives depended on it. Rooney didnt get a sniff and its a miracle he didnt do something stupid. SWP what a complete waste of organs, ran up his own arse and my heart sank when he got that chance cos you just knew he wouldnt score. Carragher, you fukin dinosaur what the fuk are you doing here? All in all, a big, big let down. Knee jerk reaction I know but how can we make a lukewarm performance like that in a world cup opener??? Laughing stock.
MC Prussian Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 The England midfield didn't work. That's why Rooney had to fall back and get all the balls himself. At least he had them. Apart from the opening goal, both Gerrard and Lampard failed in the middle of the park - they just don't seem to be able to cooperate. Hardly any initiative (but at least Gerrard fought hard and showed the passion). Milner looks a bit like a liability. You can't expect to get away with those kind of fouls on an international level, James. Capello made the right choice to take him off before he could do any more harm. Do you lot have a goalkeeper issue? Hardly a surprise with so few Premier League choices. Hopefully, Weale will make it to the starting XI in about one or two years. Oh well, onwards and upwards...?

Spent way too much time hanging around in the centre circle instead of playing up front. Heskey played a blinder, shame he tired out. The rest of them were average. That wasn't his fault really. He was just about the only one showing any movement, and numerous times he would run into space, but neither Lennon, Lampard or Gerrard ever tried to find him with a through ball instead passing it sideways or backwards.
purpleronnie Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 I know this is been asked so many times but why do we never seem to gel as a team?, I know we've ground out results but how many times do you watch england and say, wow we really played well?
Dames Posted 12 June 2010 Posted 12 June 2010 The over-reactions here.. jesus christ. Not really. Besides a lucky break at the start it was a generally very very poor performance.
