Good old fashioned wild speculation

Please no, his dads army team he came up with was the most painful team to watch in the 18 years I've been going down.

Yea, getting 92 points, scoring 73 goals and winning promotion to the premier league was pretty painful wasn't it. God forbid should any manager inflict that horror upon us again.

Some of you lot didn't know you were born with Micky Adams here, the guy was treated appallingly.

Mickey did a fantastic job while he was here, and achieved wonderful things under circumstances that no other manager would go through in their entire career. Sadly, though, his time at Leicester has gone. When he left I was under the impression he'd lost the dressing room, and obviously the fans followed suit. I have tremendous respect for the man though, so should he return, I for one would welcome him, just as I wished him all the best when he left. I feel I'd be in the minority, mind you, in that respect. As I say, his time has gone, and from his point of view it'd probably be a mistake to come back.

I'm talking about the team he assembled after relegation back to the championship, an average age of over 30 which took us years to recover from.

one word Sven :dunno:

read somewhere else about far east investment hasn't Sven got friends in these parts, Pearson suddenly jumps ship shortly after Ivory Coast going out of world cup, all seems to fit into place

Well firstly his hand was forced, the only transfer money he spent at the club was on a 20-something player (Gareth Williams). Secondly he was forced out by the moronic booing when we were top-half of the table and just a few points outside of the play-offs. The next time we graced the top half of the championship after Adams' departure? This season under Pearson. We'd have been fine had the fans not forced him out, instead the fans got what they wanted and we had to suffer the likes of Levein, Kelly, Allen, Megson, Holloway..... I'm afraid the facts contradict most of the criticism aimed at Adams, of course he made mistakes during his tenure but he was a saint compared to the dross we've had to suffer since his departure (bar Pearson). People are far too ageist on this forum.

That I'm afraid is a load of rubbish that season he had one of the highest transfer budgets in the league! you seem to neglect the fact that free transfers aren't exactly free! you have to pay wages, agent fees etc he had a very healthy budget and totally blew it paying over the top wages to players like Martin Keown at 38 years old!!, Dion Dublin, Kevin Pressman, Nathan Blake, Jason Wilcox and so on.

While Pearson spends his budget by scouting players, signing players like Jack Hobbs for reasonable fees and moderate wages Adams looked at what they did 10 years previous and gave them stupid wages, he signed players that didn't really want to play for the club, had no ambition or desire and zero commitment.

Oh and some of his tactics were questionable as well

and his short sighted approach to management put us back 5years in terms of squad development

I couldn't agree more with everything you've said about Micky Adams. In a time where we needed stability our idiot fans forced him out, I totally understood his resignation. Based on what he achieved here I'd have him back like a shot. However, it's what he's achieved since leaving that worries me, truth be told, very little.

I think my top 3 for next manager would be

1. Alan Curbishly

2. Tony Mowbray (knows what it takes to get out of this league)

3. Micky Adams

If the Adams story has come from the Mirror, we can all but rule it out, as they are basically shit journalists.

They probably still think Port Vale are league 1.

Micky's boys hardly set League 2 alight.

The replacement, should be IMO, a manager out of work. We don't have the time to approach a team, sort out compensation etc. By the time the new man is in place it will be nearly august.

And we will be fooked.

Nigel Worthington perhaps?

Not saying he is the man I want but remember he was the caretaker for a while and in hindsight shoould have got the job following that. The major stumbling block would be the compensation to NI who he probably wouldnt want to leave.

Me and you will disagree until the cows come home about Adams, as we have done plenty of times before. I'd take you on massively with the "highest transfer budgets in the league" issue for a start; the period in between Taylor pissing away millions on duds and Mandaric arriving, this club has been running on thin air financially. Also, when people try and infer that bringing in high-wage (something I would also dispute in this specific case) players on frees, it automatically equates to buying a player for a transfer fee and them being on lesser wages. The fact of the matter is that the sums don't add up quite as neatly as assumed, it's a common misconception of a lot of people. Anyway, the truth is that neither of us now the exact budgets Adams had to work with so it's a moot point really, although I'm pretty confident that our budget was not as big as you believe it was. You've got to remember the club was in administration for a good 1/3 > 1/2 of Adams' tenure at Leicester, with a transfer embargo to boot.

Look I'm not trying to say Adams' has never made a mistake in his life. Of course, he signed a few duds like any manager has done (including Pearson), but I just feel it necessary to defend the job he did here.

Coventry - Mediocre. Were lower-mid table consistently throughout his time at the club. Ever since he's left they've slid a few more places on average so all in all not a bad job done, if not a particularly great one either.

Brighton - Poor.

Port Vale - Very good.

So in conclusion, up and down really.

Micky's boys hardly set League 2 alight.

I think you'll find Adams turned around a team sliding towards a relegation battle into a side that battled very hard to get a play-off place. The Vale fans think very very highly of Adams, reflected by high numbers of season ticket sales for the forthcoming season.

I say give Mickey the reins, he got us out this division with his hands tied behind his back, the guy always faced a battle at this club and was good for us, granted he quit but left us just outside the playoffs has made bad choices after lcfc, I think mickey knows the club as long as he doesn't bring Bertie Bassett with him. He lives in the area, may have learnt oaps aren't way forward I think give it him

Don't want Dowie

He was crap 7 years ago, he's crap now. Any need for him? I think there's a good call for a certain Mr. Capello!

Believe he's on 6mill a year, well within reason ;)

Not a chance in the world of that. Lambert has already spent more money this preseason than we're going to and he's been given another £1m to get Jackson from Gillingham. I fancy Norwich for the playoffs with him in charge this season

I Fancy Hull their bloke is pretty good!

Me. I'll apply. My knowledge can be you guys

Seriously, I think a partnership is order. Powell and _____. Powell has knowledge of the team, he's watched NP, experience around the club, and not necessarily the top role. Bring in another manager, and this might work.

Thoughts?
