Mee Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Careful, you don't want to come across as too romantic. How embarrassing.
jonthefox Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 I always mash tea, also the Leicester word for throwing is to 'yack'. I always thought it was lob.
Asha Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 I always thought it was lob. I've always said 'send it'. Also "Send me some money"...as in give me some...
stez Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 i said one at work, not 20 minutes ago, regarding, sending someone for their dinner; "if'y'see*insert name*tell'im'tu'gu'feriz'dinnoh"
Guest Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 I always mash tea, also the Leicester word for throwing is to 'yack'. Isn't that the word for throwing up? Don't think that's a Leicester thing though
Webbo Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 Am I the only person who'd say " yack us them keys/that shirt etc"? Also 'rammel' meaning rubbish.
Teece Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 Am I the only person who'd say " yack us them keys/that shirt etc"? Also 'rammel' meaning rubbish. now you're not alone, I often say 'yak' for 'throw' or say its yakking it down when its raining etc... I do also use it to mean chatter too though like most of the rest of the country probably do I also know/use rammel
Zingari Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 not sure if these are particular to Leicester but i remember these words being used a lot yawping ; shouting loudly galoot ; silly person screaming abdabs ; madly excited giggoring ( not sure how it's spelt ); flirtatious raucous laughter
Wymsey Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 What the hell is a 'scrunny lad?' Heard my school mates say it all the while and they call me this on facebook occasionally = Hopefully its a nice thing?
Fosse Boy Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 not sure if these are particular to Leicester but i remember these words being used a lot screaming abdabs ; madly excited Yep, I've heard some of my family use that term. Might be Leicestershire/East Mids specific. Never heard it used anywhere else.
Houdini Logic Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 'Easy' - pronounced 'Eeeez - eh' Everywhere other than Leicester this died out in the mid nineties
Guest Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 'Easy' - pronounced 'Eeeez - eh' Everywhere other than Leicester this died out in the mid nineties So did chanting 'Wooooooooaaaaaaah…… you're shit aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!' But we still loves a bit o' that
Houdini Logic Posted 10 July 2010 Posted 10 July 2010 So did chanting 'Wooooooooaaaaaaah…… you're shit aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!' But we still loves a bit o' that As much as you're right - I didn't actually mean the football chant, I meant as a replacement to the word 'hello'
Fosse Boy Posted 12 July 2010 Posted 12 July 2010 Not sure if this is just Leicester. Moggy - Cat Definitely not just Leicester.
Collymore Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 Having lived away from Leicester the only one I realise has people stumped is Jitty. Most of the other ones are pretty well known, espeically the cockney ones!
Teece Posted 13 July 2010 Posted 13 July 2010 Also, The Leicester Accent... I was kind of only vaguely aware of it when I lived there?? Suppose it just sounds 'normal' to you when you hear it all the time, but now I've moved away I notice it loads more and am becoming pretty adept at recognising it if its on TV / radio or suchlike. As for attempting to describe how it sounds I've had mates say its like 'cockney farmer' ?????????
