iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 What are the fiercest rivalries in England ? I heard Wolves v West Brom.. Suprised me actually, I'd have thought Millwall - West Ham, Pompey- Southampton ?
Edmund Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Everton - Liverpool Man Utd - Man City Villa - Birmingham City Arsenal - Spurs Sheffield Wenesday - Sheffield United Forest - Derby etc The list is endless
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 11 September 2010 Author Posted 11 September 2010 Yeah the above are the obvious ones i'd have thought. [spiderpig] So do I, Cov hate Villa and we hate Forest. Neither hate us back. Cov should be our main rivalry I think. I remember watching a Kasabian interview and being asked 'whats the worst thing about supporting Leicester' No fierce rival was the answer. I wonder who Leeds hate most, as everyone seems to hate them
Finchy Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 I'd say the fiercest are West Ham v Millwall West Brom v Wolves Villa v Blues Blackburn v Burnley
Guest Bilo Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Man United v Liverpool Arsenal v Tottenham Florist v Derby Southampton v Pompey Newcastle v Sunderland Leeds v Man United
Tommeh Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Depends how you rate the rivalries really if their team, club or hooligan rivals really. Only one I've done is Sheffield derby which was amazing. My top 5 in the English league in no order would be: Sheff United - Wednesday Man United - Leeds Tottenham - Chelsea Portsmouth - Southampton Cardiff - Swansea As for our rivals they are Forest and Derby, I share good rivalries with many from both sides and know plenty who despise us back. Where I'm from this "not hating us back" is bollocks. City fans get up for those games and not Coventry, Peterborough etc.
Jackirius Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Norwich vs Ipswich? Family feuds... Seen as they are all cousins somehow...
Narborough_fox Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 I know it said English, but undoubtedly the biggest BRITISH derby is Old Firm, in my opinion.
Brainy Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 The list is endless Issue there is that we're looking for one particular rivalry that's bigger than the rest.
lcfc_jme Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Liverpool v Everton . Somehow, I think not. In my opinion, and in no particular order, I'd imagine these to be right up there: Swansea v Cardiff Birmingham v Villa Yanited v Leeds Sheff Weds v Sheff Yoo As for me, I absolutely despise Forest and Derby and know fans of both through uni and from living in Nottingham who absolutely do hate us back, no question. Other than those pair and hating everything MK Dons stand for, I've a great dislike of both Southampton and Crystal Palace, and a major hatred for them cunts from Stoke. Seriously I hate Stoke, wankers.
purpleronnie Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 Everton - Liverpool Man Utd - Man City Villa - Birmingham City Arsenal - Spurs Sheffield Wenesday - Sheffield United Forest - Derby etc The list is endless No way, liverpool and man utd see each other as the biggest rivals. Everton and liverpool fans sit together ffs. Millwall v west ham surely? Liverpool v Everton . Somehow, I think not. Fosse Boy Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 Yeah the above are the obvious ones i'd have thought. [spiderpig] So do I, Cov hate Villa and we hate Forest. Neither hate us back. Cov should be our main rivalry I think. I remember watching a Kasabian interview and being asked 'whats the worst thing about supporting Leicester' No fierce rival was the answer. I wonder who Leeds hate most, as everyone seems to hate them Why? It would be based (for most Leicester fans anyway) on nothing but an arbitrary hatred "just so we have a mutual main rival". The idea of most sides having a mutual main rival is something of a fallacy anyway. Take a look at this report, granted it's a few years old but I'd imagine not that much will have changed in the past seven years. Less than half of the clubs mentioned could agree on a mutual main rivalry. Take Man United for instance - their main rivalry is probably Liverpool at the moment, but that doesn't make their derbies with Leeds and Man City any less fierce. Same principle applies with us and Forest/Derby. We're not currently the main rival for either of them but there are plenty of lads I know who can't stand us. To an extent it's also a generational thing - one Forest lad I know says his dad couldn't give a shit about Derby but hates us with a passion, and that reigns true for a lot of the pre-Clough generation of their support. Likewise there's a fair few old school Chelsea fans who would think of us as rivals, but obviously their younger generation of fans don't (although surprisingly a few still do appreciate it). As for our rivals they are Forest and Derby, I share good rivalries with many from both sides and know plenty who despise us back. Where I'm from this "not hating us back" is bollocks. City fans get up for those games and not Coventry, Peterborough etc. Correct. I know it said English, but undoubtedly the biggest BRITISH derby is Old Firm, in my opinion. Don't let any Celts hear you calling it a "British" derby.
jonthefox Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 Heres the full list. http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s120/st44186.htm
lcfc_jme Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 No way, liverpool and man utd see each other as the biggest rivals. Everton and liverpool fans sit together ffs. Millwall v west ham surely? England? Couldn't care less that they're Welsh teams, they play in English football so if we're listing what people class as the biggest rivalry in English football, then they're in.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 Bit of a wildcard here, but Chesterfield and Mansfield fucking hate each other. Both towns had big mining communities and those who know the history of the 1984 Miner's Strike will know that the Derbyshire miners went on strike whereas the Nottinghamshire miners largely didn't. Cue mutual hatred running right through to 2010.

I guess you could count the likes of Portsmouth-Southampton and Wrexham-Chester in a similar bracket.

I guess you could count the likes of Portsmouth-Southampton and Wrexham-Chester in a similar bracket. I know I'm being spectacularly thick here but what's the non-footballing hatred between Pompey and Southampton. I assume the Wrexham-Chester rivalry is largely down to the fact that Chester are English (well, most of the stadium is as are most of the fans) and Wrexham are only a few miles into North Wales, so nationality comes into it. I suppose 'Biggest Derby' depends on how you classify it. If you mean the rivalry between the two biggest clubs, Man United- Liverpool pisses it in English football because they're the two most successful clubs in English football less than half an hour apart. But does it match the sheer hatred of rivalries between smaller clubs like Cardiff and Swansea, Forest and Derby or the Sheffield derby? As we've said, even League Two Chesterfield v Blue Square Premier Mansfield generates the kind of hatred that could make your teeth itch.

It's based on the fact that they are/ were commercial rivals due to their proximity and that they are both naval ports and goes waaaaayy back. All you need to know
Finnegan Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 Don't know about Chester, I know Shrewsbury have (or had?) something called the English Border Front which is (was?) basically just a bunch of BNP supporters fighting Wrexham fans.
Corky Posted 12 September 2010 Posted 12 September 2010 Burnley-Blackburn Decent shout, that's pretty fierce.
