Carter The Boss Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 "Well, lets try not to do that again" What a legend. Other than that, rubbish interview
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Not related to Sven's article, but Hansen saying that Liverpool are far better 'as a squad' than Everton made me chuckle. Dixon was certainly correct IMO when saying that Everton had a better squad !!
Edmund Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Says he never criticises other managers yet a paper claimed he critised Capello yesterday. His words were twisted.
Matt Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 never understood why the BBC put this on a Saturday lunchtime when 1000's of fans are travelling all over the country to games. Surely stick it on at 7pm BBC2 on a Friday night instead of showing another repeat of Coast or something equally dull and you would get a far far bigger Audience Not watched it for years so my comment might be invalid however I hazard a guess a huge majority of the show focuses on the "big four" © of which alot of those supports are armchair supporters thus being able to watch it and not travelling all over the country going to support their team

AmyLGK Posted 16 October 2010 Author Posted 16 October 2010 I was watching Jeff and the guys on SSN but got BORED of listening to them going on and on AND ON about the top 4! Pisses me right off really!
Phube Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Do we now include Liverpool in the 'Big 4' or not..?
Matt Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I knew you were going to say something along those lines when I saw you'd replied but am I right? Looking at Amy's post suggests I am.
AmyLGK Posted 16 October 2010 Author Posted 16 October 2010 Do we now include Liverpool in the 'Big 4' or not..? well...what was traditionally the big 4 then
Matt Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Do we now include Liverpool in the 'Big 4' or not..? Debatable I was thinking a similar thing when posting my original post.
Craig Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 but am I right? Looking at Amy's post suggests I am. Didn't say you weren't
Brainy Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 As if anyone expected this to be anything amazing
AmyLGK Posted 16 October 2010 Author Posted 16 October 2010 As if anyone expected this to be anything amazing One question regarding Leicester would have been nice though!
Winchester Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Was listening to the radio in the car on the way to work this morning, and sven's appointment got mentioned on the news all the way over here in america!
AmyLGK Posted 18 October 2010 Author Posted 18 October 2010 Was listening to the radio in the car on the way to work this morning, and sven's appointment got mentioned on the news all the way over here in america! BLIMEY!!!!!!!!!! What station were you listening to??
Alexikokopops Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Same applies with MOTD. Late saturday night is ridiculous timing. I guess because Saturday night is designed as family entertainment. The BBC gets figures of around 8-9 million for Strictly Come Dancing, and around 4 million for MOTD. I doubt MOTD viewing figures would double if you put it a few hours earlier. I got the MOTD viewing figures from here(average of 3.7 million in 2007-08) and Strictly Come Dancing from here. They're a bit old, but it's the best I could find quckly
MC Prussian Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 The bald guy doing the reports from football grounds across The UK and overseas was a right twat towards Sven... He was trying so hard to be funny. It just didn't work.
marbelladave Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 It's the 'cult of Sven'. A personality cult built around Sven's celebrity status. Has its good points, like merchandising and keeping the owners/sponsors happy, he's very good at that. Also his name attracts players and his contacts are fantastic. Could you realistically see players of the calibre of Davies and Naughton coming to a (near) bottom of the Championship club if we did not have Sven in charge?....Thought not! The bad points are that it is expensive and it is all about Sven. Polite and diplomatic he may be but we are now the Sven-Goren Eriksson show and he knows it!
dandannieldanok Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 The bad points are that it is expensive and it is all about Sven. Polite and diplomatic he may be but we are now the Sven-Goren Eriksson show and he knows it! True, but tbf to him he doesn't seem the type to go out looking for all the publicity. He's only plastered all over the tv and papers because people want a piece of him, rather than him wanting a piece of them. I much prefer the way he deals with the media than Pearson ever did here.
Adster Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I to was in america, had my lcfc shirt on, we arrived at the grand floridian, the guy who took our car away said is that leicester city on your shirt? I said yes, straight away he said 'what d'you think of eriksson.? We're known throughout the world now
Svenalike Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Thats what happends when you have a manager that has won a double a 3 different countries does your club matey. Despite the media bashing Sven for years, I think as time as gone by he has had a lot more respect from what has happend to England since he left, and sticking out Notts county proving he wasnt there for the momey has helped. You have a manager that has better CV that most of the Premier League managers. There is a good chance this will be long term my friend It appears that every club our Svennis has been employed by has been the instant focus of the UK and world media. Every club (except maybe the "political" and xenophobic Mexican "El Tri"?) has been very sorry to lose him and has been much less consistant and far less successful without him. Both England and Man City squads threatened to strike in support of (or at the prospect of losing) Sven and both official fan organisations launched massively supported campaigns trying to keep Sven. The heated interest within the media may not remain quite so hot, but it's certain to remain high and it will be interesting to see what those past "Sven-bashers" in the tabloids have to say as Leicester City's Foxes follow Sven's past history and progress up the league and on up the Prem? It's very noticeable that even the worst and most deceptive/inventive and deluded Sven-knockers of the past are now backtracking to match wider public and professional opinion as his remarkable CV and the exceptionally high regard of his many fans, his past star players and ex-club executives and colleagues has become better publicised and more widely known? The good, the bad and the totally invented publicity that Sven attracts appears to be all the same to him and no doubt he will continue to follow his own confident and successful track with the same modest dignity and good humour he has always shown in the past....?
Svenalike Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I was watching Jeff and the guys on SSN but got BORED of listening to them going on and on AND ON about the top 4! Pisses me right off really! Maybe you won't say that if (when?) Leicester is IN "the top four"??? With Sven at the helm, there's no reason that couldn't happen within his three year contract.... He's never lied in the past (in spite of all the many lies told about him) and those clubs (including England) that so stupidly threw him away had his totally commitment up to their point of stupidity and disloyalty and lack of appreciation for his results when they dumped him mid contract. Unless someone behind the scenes at Walkers attempts to interfere and throws a hissyfit when Sven refuses to do less than he knows is best for the squad, team and club (as with Man City) or listens to the lies in the press more than looking at the scores and listening to the fans (like TheFA?).., Leicester can look forward to at least 3 years of the Eriksson effect and all that this has always brought to the many past clubs he's coached to top honours, fame and glory?

The bad points are that it is expensive and it is all about Sven. Polite and diplomatic he may be but we are now the Sven-Goren Eriksson show and he knows it! "Sven's celebrity status" is built upon his unique history as one of the most successful football coaches in the history of the game and the interest and often inventive journalism of those who have been so obsessed with the batchelor lifestyle of this unmarried man. If it's "all about Sven" then Sven appears to have always been "all about football". It is obviously his first and last love since he has no need for further wealth and those who have observed his continued dignified lack of interest in the media spot light may ponder if his own absence from the media circus outside of "duty" interviews. Compared with some media whore managers, Sven appears to be a shy and retiring recluse outside of those measured and required media meetings? Compared with Capello and quite a few overpaid and underachieving premier league club coaches, Sven must surely represent amazing value for money for both his past employers and Leicester City?
