dandannieldanok Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Seemed as though the referee couldn't be arsed to raise the whistle to his face for most of the game, before giving a deluge of freekicks for a few concentrated periods near the end to account for all the freekicks he missed throughout the game. Of course we don't want referees to dominate the game, but neither do we want them to show little interest in what's going on and be as lazy as the tit we had today. I dread to think what our next referee is going to be like, because they seem to decline in quality every single week.
Koke Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I really liked Franck Moussa. Hope he gets more game time under Sven. Half the problem today was we were playing 4-4-2 with three central midfielders & 1 attacking midfielder across the park - it was never gonna work in a trillion years. Sven is a 4-4-2 man thou, so i guess we'll have to get used to that.
Austin Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 May have been posted elsewhere .. But where was Dyer?
Mee Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 May have been posted elsewhere .. But where was Dyer? Injured mate. Picked up a knock in Thailand i believe.
Austin Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Injured mate. Picked up a knock in Thailand i believe. Cheers pal
themotivator Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 cant wait for dyer and matty to get back. plus hopefully a new striker and midfielder. we will have so many great options then. Franck, Curtis and Naughton were class. exactly what we need. Im optimistic, but disappointed we didn't capitalise and get the 3 points. Howard and Gally have proved that they are not the answer. Davies seemed to look more like scoring than they did today.
marbelladave Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Injured mate. Picked up a knock the clap in Thailand i believe. Fixed it for you! Sorry, couldn't resist...
marbelladave Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Well, well. All the fuss and fun and games of the last two weeks, it was nice to actually sit down and watch some football. Great anticipation, sad to say it came to nothing by the end, still early days. City started at pretty much full pace, second or third attack King burst into the box and for once was quite unconvincing with his finish, still got it into the net eventually, just as well really. Barely three minutes into the Svennis era and a goal up, bloody brilliant. Our pace slackened and rather tailed off towards half time but we remained in solid control, the back 4 kept a high line which helped our midfield push forward, talking of which, a very interesting selection. No natural wingers but that worked well enough with Oakley and Gallagher offering some width but in the main tucking in and allowing the fullbacks to get forward, worked quite nicely first half, for me, it makes a huge difference having wide men who know what to do with the ball in midfield, something neither Dyer, D'NG or Waghorn can manage. However, we were in control and the midfield was functioning quite well, attacks coming from all sides but neither Waghorn nor Howard looked remotely sharp enough to make the most of chances. Once again it fell too the midfielders, primarily King and Gallagher to threaten the goal, but as the half rolled on we looked less and less convincing. It got a little frustrating towards half time, sharp chances were being made but not taken, set pieces remained woeful and the City players looked like they felt they needed (and deserved) a second goal but it just would not come, King, Gallagher, Waghorn, even Davies all had chances but no-one could get it into the net. Second half started, predictable enough, with a lot more effort from Hull, the gradually fought their way back into the game, and for the first time started to threaten the leicester goal. City's attacks became more sporadic, the long ball featuring prominently but when the Hull equaliser arrived it was hardly a surprise though this was another long shot that Weale should have saved but did not. I swear Sven went to his 'little black book', G for goalkeepers most probably. After the equaliser City fought back and the game swung end to end, Moussa replaced a limping Howard (whether injured or knackered I don't know), and Gallagher moved forward to partner Waghorn. Once again Gallagher proved that he is not a 'natural' striker, no real pace and, more importantly, poor decision making, shooting when he should be passing and generally unable to get on the end of anything in the box. Sven tried to freshen things up but with limited resources, Abe on the right for Oakley was clearly the wrong choice, Abe is quick and determined but no wide man, ineffective overall. The game finished with both sides trying to get forward, but City clearly were running on empty by this time, lots more work for Derek to do in that area, Gallagher, Waghorn and Wellens all looked rather 'portly' for me. All in all a game that City had the better of, but as the home team they had to do more to deserve the win than they managed today, very limp up front with Howard looking increasingly past it and Waghorn nothing like the player he was at times last season. Admitedly the service to the front men was poor, far too many long balls and all in all a bit of an anti climax really, left me feeling disappointed and in no mood for the drive home, were I not driving several strong beers would definitely be in order. Interestingly the new boys did well, though the threat from Hull was fairly minimal. Davies looked class but had a relatively easy day, Naughton tailed off badly after the break but both should improve with time.
Babylon Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Naughton tailed off badly after the break but both should improve with time. What the feck???? He was about our only attacking threat (second half) and glided past their players with ease. I think I was in a different ground after what I've read regarding the game today.
Lillehamring Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Could've been worse I suppose, we could've lost. I am becoming increasingly concerned with Chris Weale and what seems to be a woeful ability to deal with long-range shots. Sure, we should push on and not allow the opposition the chance to take those shots, but Weale seems to concede from range too often for my liking. you would think that with stowell and powell on our staff we wouldn't suffer these problems, but it is disturbing that the majority of goals we concede are either speculative shots from range or from set pieces. we seem to contribute more to the goals we concede, rather than that our opponents are creating them.
C-man Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I think I was in a different ground after what I've read regarding the game today. I feel like that most weeks but I can't remember '70 minutes of hoofing today.' (Unless that was a description of Gallagher's shooting in which case I stand corrected ) Personally thought it was a relatively entertaining game and saw no significant drop in passing from Sousa's time. Maybe I'm wrong, I spent most of the second half trying to blank out the ignorant twat to my right.

I think I was in a different ground after what I've read regarding the game today. Interesting. Second half most of our 'attacking' play involved the long ball, Naughton was one of the few, along with Moussa who tried to run with the ball, I thought that by the hour mark he was pretty knackered and nothing like the threat he was first half. He did try and keep going though, overall I thought he played pretty well, maybe my initial comments were a bit dismissive...

I was sitting in the corner he was attacking second half and everyone in my area was extremely impressed with what he did. He did slow, but that was after 75/80+, not 35+ like the others.

Thought we mixed it up fairly well first half, but after the hour mark we played far too many indeterminate 'chipped' forward passes. With Howard and Waghorn both ineffective this was tantamount to giving the ball back to the opposition...

I think I was in a different ground after what I've read regarding the game today. When interviewed after the game Naughton admitted he was knackered come the second half and although he may have glided past some players said he wasn't able to get up and down like he did in the first half and was therefore caught out defensively quite a few times late in the game I feel like that most weeks but I can't remember '70 minutes of hoofing today.' (Unless that was a description of Gallagher's shooting in which case I stand corrected ) Personally thought it was a relatively entertaining game and saw no significant drop in passing from Sousa's time. Maybe I'm wrong, I spent most of the second half trying to blank out the ignorant twat to my right. I believe it was me that referred to 70 minutes of hoofing and that's pretty much all Weale did after the first 15 minutes, he completely ignored his back four who often had at least two players available as an outlet but chose to hoof it pointlessly up to a toothless Howard & Waghorn. Even when the back four did get the ball it rarely went through midfield and was usually lofted up to Waghorm to chase.

I am kind of used to wretched distribution from our keeper, but we were so in control first half I did not really notice it. I was mostly concerned about the hopeless balls, chipped long and aimed at Gallagher and Waghorn. This was virtually our only mode of attact in the last half hour, complete waste!
davieG Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Good job I said nothing about his defending second half then and only his attacking. I'm not criticising him I thought he played well and as you say late second half down in the West/South corner was doing an excellent impression of a winger but he's not played more than a couple of games in earnest this season.

From where I was sat 1st half inline with the goal it was clear to see Weale gradually, to the point of completely going for the hoof, it's seems to be endemic to LCFC goalkeepers they all start off when they join by 'passing it out' but eventually all end up with the hoof, it's a pet moan of mine and I'm acutely aware of it.
rabbid Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 It's not plagiarised, Leicester were singing it LONG before that bunch of mongoloids were. It's been revised from the 70s and 80s but nick chants from a bunch of spastics like Cardiff? I'd rather spend an evening attempting to rim myself. Using the word spastic like that means you probably have youre head up youre arse already
David Guiza Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Loved the background music on the football league show. The Smiths and Leicester City at the same time was pretty special
Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Davies looked really comfortable at this level. I had him as my MOM and apparently Alan Young said the same on RL so can't be bad. I thought the other new lad Naughton did ok too. Certainly didn't do anuthing wrong but he is supposed to have quite a bit of pace and skill and there were so many times where he was facing up his opposite number with room in behind and I was literally screaming please just take him on!! We were much the better team and should have won but to be fair we hardly carved out many 'guilt edge' opportunities. Still shit at corners too. Hobbs faced with 2 identical headers with an identical result. straight at the keeper with no power. We really need to stop floating them in the way that we do. I don't know the stat but we must be over 100 corners with 0 goals by now. We will climb the league.
melrose Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Injured mate. Picked up a knock in Thailand i believe. I picked a bit more than that last time I went there!
cc_star Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Bit late as I was drunk yesterday. Good performance from the back, if we had played with wingers we'd have murdered them. We need to sign Davies but if he looks good for us either Villa are going to want him back or someone else is going to want him. Glad to see we're not running around like headless chickens when the opposition has the ball, everyone knew what their job was - Didn't take Sven & Faz long to get rid of Sousa's legacy. We have a lot to build on, but we need to replace Howard, I don't think Roberts is the answer but he might be an improvement. Solid & with the addition of Dyer & a new big man we'd be unbeatable. apart from by the very best.
