Ozwin Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Curtis Davies is fooking quality, too good for this league. Not complaining like.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Probably the worst team I've seen at the Walkers in a long, long time. They did literally nothing. Feel a bit for Sven, mind, he lacked options today given the injuries and suspensions. That said, Yuki Abe is not now and will never be a winger. The lad is terrified of being anywhere near the touch line and isn't a natural crosser of the ball. He plays short, simple, patient passes and looks to win the ball when we're not in possession. The absolute holding player. We'd be better with almost anyone else out there, to be fair. Thought the Hull support were the worst I've seen in years as well. They must be even more fickle than us. The year they went up I remember looking across from where I was sat and seeing their end packed and pretty loud. It was like a half empty library today in that corner today. Yuki is a quality defensive midfield player. He will get stuck in and win balls, play short intelligent passes and if given an oportunity with a free kick he'll show real class. He's gotta be struggling a bit to settle with the language difficulties, but he'll be great, wait and see Defensively we were much better today, but up front it was the same old story. We need a proven goalscorer which will take the pressure off the defence. Hull are one of the poorest teams in the league and they left with a point today when actually they should have been out of it by HT. There is much to be done, but Sven's building well so far
EnglishOxide Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Under Sousa, we'd have pissed about with the ball. Wouldn't have had a decent right back or Davies, Hull would have more scoring chances for starters. They had plenty at about 55mins to 70mins where we hoofed it and gave it back to them all the time - resulting in sustained pressure on the defence. It could have been two or three.
The Doctor Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Finners is ALWAYS clear. By the by - am I a deaf cunt or were the FBs singing Cardiff's Na Na, Hey Hey song today? I didn't think they knicked other club's chants, eh, Bilo? na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey cardiff leicester city. That one? If so then yes. Irritated me after about half an hour with the down low chant coming up every other time. With my knees i can't stand up then sit down then stand up again and down and up and so on that quickly. Should have buried them first half, had our chances in the second but failed to kill the game off. Inconsistant reffing, a terrible desicion not to send barmby off for the little attack on waghorn down in the west stand-kop corner but not the worst we've had this season. Good start though and an intresting post match interview - more signings within the week by the sounds of things.
phildw Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Sad thing is under Sousa we would have won that game. Lumping the ball up to Howard and waggy not the answer and a Sousa team would have got behind the Hull defence. If only Sousa had the luxury of Naughton and Davies in defence. Proves it wasn't Sousa tactics or playing style it was the quality of player he had to work with. Hope this point at home stops all this pie in the sky talk of promotion this season.
Walkers Wench Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I stood and sung for a whole city game... Thank you sk4, was a pleasure. The game was more good than bad. The defence is so much better but we need some above average strikers, that will come im sure. i sit in sk4,,,,so that was you?
Hammster Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 The two loan signings seemed to be the best players on the pitch. Particularly Davies. We evidently need a striker but the game was promising. Good start to Sven's time here. Let's see what happens but I'm definitely optimistic. We looked immense first half and then I don't really understand what happened at the start of the second half. By the end we were playing okay but too little too late. Still overall we were promising.
Corky Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Well let's start with the positives, Andy King back to scoring form with a trademark run and shot, Davies and Naughton were superb, both totally in command of their positions, Hobbs looked much more soild with a good centre-back and Berner had his best game for a while. Having said that, there were negatives as well. Howard and Waghorn simply didn't work today, Howard won little and Waghorn struggled to get beyond the Hull centre-backs. Gallagher had a great chance near the end which summed up his day, off-target. Abe really struggles to get involved in the game when coming off the bench, dawdles too much for me. We badly missed Dyer who, for all his inconsistencies, would certainly have stretched Solano with his pace, and the all the officials were crap. Lack of consistency in many decisions for both sides. All-in-all, two points dropped.
CosbehFox Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 They had plenty at about 55mins to 70mins where we hoofed it and gave it back to them all the time - resulting in sustained pressure on the defence. It could have been two or three. It could of been. But it wasn't. The defence actually had some organisation today oddly.
MC Prussian Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Hmmm... Not quite sure what to make of this match and the result. Obviously, the Sven Factor helped a lot and the general feel inside and outside the Walkers was positive and light-hearted. First half, we were all over them. Can't recall a single good chance for Hull. It was a pleasure to watch. After his goal, no more King to be seen. Simply disappeared. Too exhausted from Tuesday's game in Basle? Second half, I thought we'd seal the three points, just couldn't score and Hull's goal to me came out of nowhere and changed the whole momentum. Obviously, Pearson must've come up with a real good halftime talk. Curtis Davies played like a god in defense, won 99% of his headers, was everywhere, has the jumping and positioning skills of an alien and impressed me A LOT. Not even Caleb Folan made it past him. Naughton faded a bit in the second half, but some of his moves were simply amazing. I guess it was a bit too much of a task covering both right-back and right wing. I think we simply lack two, three players that can cover the existing holes. In particular, a proper right winger, a more consistent offensive midfielder who can add pressure going forward and win a couple of free-kicks here and there. And we need another striker, the chances wasted today were a shame. Can't really say that a player in particular disappointed today, it was more the collective that just couldn't cope the longer the game progressed - Naughton and Davies excluded. They were fit as hell. The referee was inconsistence impersonated. Most decisions against us and only towards the end, he found the courage to book a few Hull players and award a few free-kicks in our favour. Still, promising signs for the remaining 35 regular season games (provided these additional signings happen). BUT... will we ever score from a set-piece. Closing in on about a hundred corners and still no goal....
Mee Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Not a bad display, unlucky not to get the 3 points. A very good performance by the loanee's, also Naughton seems to have his head screwed on, so that's always decent.
Guest Bilo Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Finners is ALWAYS clear. By the by - am I a deaf cunt or were the FBs singing Cardiff's Na Na, Hey Hey song today? I didn't think they knicked other club's chants, eh, Bilo? It's not plagiarised, Leicester were singing it LONG before that bunch of mongoloids were. It's been revised from the 70s and 80s but nick chants from a bunch of spastics like Cardiff? I'd rather spend an evening attempting to rim myself.

dandannieldanok Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Ultimately disappointing, we were great for 30 minutes then just completely went off the boil. It's even more galling considering what a shite team Hull are bar their centre-halves and Robert Koren. It would have been a different game had Howard not been totally dominated in the air, it meant we could never really get a foothold in their half. Some of the football in the first half was really good though and we need to build on that, we're clearly capable of good football, just need to produce it more consistently. Definitely some positives to take (Curtis Davies, Franck Moussa), but we've got to improve because there are plenty of better teams than Hull in this league, Leeds on Tuesday for starters. Oh and the ref was genuinely horrific.
FrankieADZ Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 thought the first half we played some good stuff with Naughton bombing down the right and working his socks off, really impressed w/ him, Same with Davis; really solid and looked a class apart. Still think we need to get in a couple more players, but after a performance like that I was actually quite pleased with it.....even tho I think we should have been out of site by the end of the first half.
bluefox9er Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 ah well, unbeaten start for Sven. At least he has seen the squad, think thats the main thing at the minute 1-1...extremely disappointing. really should be winning these sort of home games.
Finnegan Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 It's not plagiarised, Leicester were singing it LONG before that bunch of mongoloids were. It's been revised from the 70s and 80s but nick chants from a bunch of spastics like Cardiff? I'd rather spend an evening attempting to rim myself. As far as I know, Cardiff have been singing it for decades n'all. Didn't realise it was an old Leicester song as well to be fair.
Webbo Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 It was nice to see that we actually looked dangerous from corners even if we didn't score from one.
Dylan Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 We were absolutely fantastic in the first 10-15 minutes, and really should've scored a 2nd goal. Then they got back into the game, and we resorted to hoofing the ball to Howard for about an hour, who was winning nothing in the air. Then eventually started to look threatening a bit again in the last 5-10 minutes. Kyle Naughton and Davies were fantastic- hopefully our defence is sorted now. Once Fryatt comes back from suspension, I then he should partner Waghorn up front. Referee was crap. Every little decision went against us. I think we need to bring in a striker and midfielder on loan.
Karljohn Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Always going to be a difficult one, NP knew that if they could stop Howard in the air, and hassle Waggy constantly then he wasn't going to be far away from mission accomplished. Very impressed with young Naughton who by his own admission is 3 matches away from full fitness, and Davies who said he hadn't played a league game for a year. I thought Bruno had a decent game today and was unlucky not to find the net but Gallagher wasted a golden chance to impress, he made some terrible decisions today and then topped it off by firing over from 12 yards out when it was easier to score. As for Abe, he looks absolutely fooking useless, just dances around the ball, when he finally got hold of the thing he was robbed far too easily. Moussa was far more direct and looks a real prospect, arguably the only Sousa signing that will still be around next season. If we can reproduce the first 20-30 minutes from today's performance at Leeds and be more clinical, we'll take maximum points.
Thracian Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 So after all the hype Sven got about half an hour's promising work from his team, presided over a tactical mess, dropped two home points and saw us fall further off the Championship pace. So who's our next manager going to be? Cos far from having our owners shouting about promotion it would be nice to see someone cut the deadwood from our team and convince me that we'll extract ourselves from the relegation places. Hull were so ordinary. Another S****horpe really, with big, cumbersome defenders, no signs of great movement or skill and precious little ambition other than to steal a point. Kingy gave us the perfect start doing no more than Gallagher so rarely manages, which is hit the target. After 15 minutes we'd played some splendid football and had as many shots as we normally have in a whole game. But after 15 minutes more it was the same fear-filled Leicester conceding ground and showing little more ambition than trying to hang onto their slender lead. By the second half that scenario only became more glaringly pronounced. Our fast, high-up-the-field closing down stopped, players stopped making the urgent runs that gave us passing options in attack, our one-touch football became three and four touches as midfielders searched for a suitable outlet and we invited Hull to come onto us. Result - we failed to close a guy down 30 yards from goal and the fellow equalised with a speculative shot that Weale should probably have saved but should never have faced. Our "We've been working hard all week" manager apparently didn't think we needed to bother much with corners and free-kicks. Yes, his one ploy of using Howard and Hobbs at the far post might have brought rewards given faster, more accurate crosses, but what about plans B, C and D? Where were the short corners, the step-overs, the near-post deliveries and so on? How many years do Leicester want to wait to get these simple things sorted? And why were we still carrying passengers in our team? When are we going to stop? You smply cannot win football matches with ineffective players - and even more so when the team is clearly afraid to win because of all the hype, all the money invested and all the pressure from people desperate for only one thing - a return on their investment. Cos if that wasn't afflicting us we'd never have gone into retreat-mode and offered Hull a reprieve they never deserved. We'd have chased a second goal and a third and put fast-moving, fast passing waves of players to turn those big Hull defenders every which way. Before the end of the evening someone will tell me what the hell Gallagher is for? I said from day one that his record didn't ever suggest he was going to be a prolific goalscorer and watching him it is perfectly obvious why. He's not quick enough, focused enough or accurate enough. In other words he might have the technique to be a striker but he doesn't have the mentality - and today was the perfect example. Watch Gallagher in the pre-match shooting and he's as lethal as anyone. In the match though he invariably seems to be anticipating the tackler which makes him lean back off his shots taking them high and wide. As for playing him on the wing - well, I'll be glad when we stop our silly habit of playing people away from their specialist position. Hell, it's failed us for years enough already. If Gallagher has a best role it's as a sub because he can occasionally pull a trick from the bag. But beyond that I just don't see the return. I am still staggered how we slumped from fast, incisive, full-of-movement football to one-paced, guarded, static, ineffective and unambitious crap in such a short time. And why? Cos it certainly wasn't because of any great threat from Hull. Yet gradually our whole aproach went from fast to laboured once we'd scored. I'd like to think there'll be improvement sometime soon but there never seems to be. As for our free-kicks, they were arguably worse than our corners. There was no threat and no imagination. In fact Hull looked more dangerous from theirs. The idea of gently floating free-kicks onto heads is just farcical given Leicester's team. We need to be far more imaginative and far more inclined to drive the ball into the box at pace towards players who show willing to move and so disturb defences. But above all we need accuracy, planning and purpose. It all seemed to be lacking.
Guest shearfox Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Good start in my opinion, it has highlighted to Sven where our weakness is which is upfront... both of Sven signings seem to have solved the defensive side of things, Davies in particular seemed to be at the end of everything at the back just the type of defender we needed.
Austin Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Lacked width in midfield, Gallagher seems to bang every shot in Top bag in the warm up, for whatever reason he cant hit a ball whilst on the pitch My overall feeling was, ok performance, loanee's played well, but still seriously lack a right winger and a Targetman/Finisher. Edit: Also disliked the Pearson loving whilst the walkers was emptying, I was a Pearson fan during his time at the club but I dont understand why you'd chant for him when you should be backing your own manager.
Aeropars Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Overall an encouraging display for me. First half we were excellent without being dangrous. We scored the goal which I think their keeper will be extreamly dissapointed about but apart form one or two half chances we never really tested their keeper. In fact, I cant remember him pulling off many saves throughout the game. We simply lacked cutting edge and creativity. The midfield missed the pace of dyer and lacked offencive options both on the break and during normal build up play. The strike force was quite pityful. Howard is totally immobile and offers nothing but height. Even then he can be out jumped by so many defenders making him pretty useless for our attacking options. Waghorn ran his socks off but lacked a good first touch to take him away from his marker. Too many times he had his back to goal and lacked a forward option. The posatives were the defence. For 90% of the game they were simply awsome and made Hulls attack look less than everage. Naughton was steady without being spectacular but Davis was a class above. Our ability to retain posession was extreamly pleasing in the first half. Encouraging signs and theres no doubt Sven will be the person taking us up in my opinion. When? That remains to be seen.
Webbo Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 So after all the hype Sven got about half an hour's promising work from his team, presided over a tactical mess, dropped two home points and saw us fall further off the Championship pace. Think you're being harsh their Thrac. It was a huge improvement on the rest of this season in only his first game. The fitness seems to have improved, if not quite there yet, and Sven's signings have improved the team, with more on the way. Not a bad start imo.
