Sven on Rooney

Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed Darius Vassell will sign his new deal at Leicester on Wednesday, following his side's 2-1 win at Leeds.

A delighted Eriksson, who could not have hoped for a better display from his new side after Tuesday night's Championship victory at Elland Road, said Vassell had passed his medical and was ready to return for a second spell with Leicester after failing to settle in Turkey with Ankaragucu.

While Wayne Rooney is pondering his future after the day's revelations at Manchester United, his former England boss appears to have made an instant impression on his return to English football.

Kyle Naughton, on loan from Tottenham, fired his first goal for Leicester after a defensive slip in the 63rd minute and late substitute Steve Howard slid home the decisive second with nine minutes remaining.

Luciano Becchio set up a grandstand finish when he headed home two minutes later, but it was too little too late for Leeds, who had been outmuscled, overrun and outplayed by Eriksson's new charges

Leicester had won only two of their 10 league games before the Swede succeeded Paulo Sousa in charge earlier this month and Eriksson said: "I'm pleased with the result, but more with the way we played and that we played football for 90 minutes. I don't think we did that very well last Saturday.

"Of course you think it's going to be one of those days, I've seen it before so many times, you play well, create a lot of chances and you don't score.

"But finally we scored and we deserved to win today, I only hope we can go on playing as we did today.

"We wanted to see a more mobile team out there. It was good performance and at the end the team showed great heart, great spirit."

Eriksson confirmed he expects the signing of Vassell to go through without any hitches and admitted he would never have envisaged Rooney leaving Old Trafford.

Eriksson added: "It is a big surprise of course. Yes, I saw the (Sir Alex Ferguson) interview this afternoon - well, he can always come to us if he wants. We'll take him.

"I have no idea where he will go or if he is going to leave. The last word is not said yet."

Leeds have now lost three of their six league games at Elland Road this season and looked a shadow of the side that had bounced back from a stunning 6-4 defeat to Preston in their last home game to win 2-1 at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Manager Simon Grayson expressed his frustration at his players' inconsistency, but gave credit to an impressive Leicester performance.

He said: "It's frustrating. We wanted to try and build on the weekend's result, but it probably typifies our season so far.

"We're very inconsistent. We played very well at the weekend, did a lot of good things, had energy, had quality, desire, but tonight we didn't do any of those things very well.

"We were dictated to by Leicester from the start. They played very well and you've got to give them credit, but we didn't do the good things we're capable of."

Good work Sven

Quite.

I think Beckham will be able to provide a mentoring role for him when he comes to the Singha.

They both need games after all.

Dad, If every person in Thailand buys two shirts.............. could you buy them both for me please?

I'll pay you back.

Was this not topical>?

Did Sven not say "well, he can always come to us if he wants. We'll take him"

Its obviously tongue in cheek so maybe you should try develop a sense of humor, and stop acting like a jumped up adult prefect.

Not forum police, forum moderator, who instead of being able to catch up with what has gone one, has to read and lock/delete Rooney to Leicester threads every hour. Funny the first time, maybe... after the about the seventh somewhat bloody tedious.

Perhaps you should take a look around the forum and notice the there was already a Rooney to Leicester thread that had been locked.

Can we delete this thread please!!! It irritates me :frusty:

no-ones forcing you to read it.

If you want it gone then don't post in it. It will eventually make it's way down into the pile of threads that time forgot.

What are you talking about, deary me I really do have to question the brain power of some people.

Open your eyes and you will see it went into the "The annoying, but traditional, totally unfounded Autumn/Winter rumours thread". And as an aside I didn't even start that thread, I put it into an old thread as not to clutter up the forum but a moderator actually moved it to it's own thread after Bert confirmed we HAD made an approach. The thread I did actually create on here was pretty well titled to show that what was posted inside could well be rubbish, as it turns out it wasn't it was confirmed by Bert. Plus there hadn't already been 7 thread on the same bloody subject.

Bit of a difference.

Well if you read through the previous thread you would have seen it was Rooney to go shopping, and not the manager of the club commenting on Rooney, the threads are a little bit different.

Some people may wish to read the managers comments.

some may think as it's a post match interview it should have gone in the post match thread?

Could have easily read them in the other Rooney thread though

Which is where?

Only saw one other thread and it wasn't mentioned, sorry i don't live on the website and check every post

But both equally as bad!!! We all know there is absolutely no way in a million years that he is coming, it's about 1000 times more crazy than Beckham wanting to come here. Sven was joking, so were you when you started the thread, and so was I when I said someone would get banned over it. End of story.

If you are going to come back with that... at least spell "of course" properly and quote properly as it does you no favours with this argument

Babylon time to close this thread I think!! I don't see the point of it and it's just become a place for certain posters to wind u up now! Get rid I say. Rooney is never coming here! There was some truth in Beckham story so i don't see how that is relevant either.
