Tilley Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Have to get up 5 minutes earlier now so I can get the heaters on and defrost my car in the morning. I use the new de-icer liquid spray and if necessary, a scraper. I love driving past people that are using a just boiled kettle, morons. I saw someone do it last year and his screen cracked on the spot.
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I hate you. I cycle and it's either freezing, wet or both. I lost my gloves too.
lou Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Had to use a CD case to scrape mine this morning.... totally unprepared
StanSP Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Careful when de-icing mate: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-11594571 It's stupid if you use boiling water. Common sense should prevail that if there's a sudden change of temperature it will crack Anyway, when I do have to de-ice, I switch on the heating, pour tepid water over the windows, and then use scrapers if need be.
Tilley Posted 21 October 2010 Author Posted 21 October 2010 Careful when de-icing mate: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-11594571 I know I shouldn't laugh but....... How the fuck does somebody manage that?!
StanSP Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I know I shouldn't laugh but....... How the fuck does somebody manage that?! I'm as stumped as you mate
Jackirius Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Its been bright sunshine and blue skies over Norfolk today
BoneDog Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Where do you get tepid water from? I want to stock up for the winter.
Alexikokopops Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Where do you get tepid water from? I want to stock up for the winter. The tap
Zingari Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 The best thing in this sort of weather is to get one of those little electric fan heaters and put it in your car about 15 minutes before you want to set off . The car will be properly defrosted and will remain so until the engine has time to warm up , Of course , this is only any good if your car is parked on your driveway , i wouldn't recommend it if you live in a terrace street and it's over the other side of the road or something
Houdini Logic Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 My missus doesn't use de-icer because it's bad for the environment... You're about to get into A CAR!
Webbo Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 My missus doesn't use de-icer because it's bad for the environment... You're about to get into A CAR! Tell her to leave the engine running for 10 minutes before she leaves instead then.
Zingari Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 tip for environmentalists ; keep some baby seals on the back seat to keep the car warm through the night
Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Try to avoid leaving your brand new car on your driveway with the heaters on and the keys in the ignition while you have your breakfast, because you live in the country and forgot about the concept of crime as a result. I know someone that used to do this, and by a million to one chance it got stolen

Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 that'l be fookin gippos that will I cannot believe that someone could be so utterly prejudiced and base an uninformed opinion on such a tired old stereotype. The fact that the vehicle's number plate was found in a ditch outside a travellers site is entirely coincidental (this did actually happen). The lucky sod did actually get the car back when it mysteriously turned up in Scotland having acquired an extra 2 years (according to its new numberplate) and an extra 15,000 miles or so on its clock. It's a good job because I think the chances of the insurance company paying out would have been pretty low

lildave3 Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Hit me yesterday, obviously first time it's happened. I didn't like it. Should probably buy some de-icer tomorrow.

I still find the idea of you driving hilarious. And worrying. How far forward do you need your seat to reach the pedals with your booster seat?

Kent Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I've used hot (not boiling) water twice because I was in a mad rush. I take a chance with the screen cracking, I like to live on the edge.
ozleicester Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 great post... was about to ask this question, as its a bit new for me... on the VERY odd occasions that it was neccessaary in OZ, i would use warmish water...but , assumed that wouldnt work here as it would just re-freeze? So what are the answers? seriously, The best way to deal with iced windows is...
lildave3 Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 I still find the idea of you driving hilarious. And worrying. How far forward do you need your seat to reach the pedals with your booster seat? Brilliant.
The Doctor Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 No need for de-icer yet, windows aren't icing up. When they do get a squeegie (think that's what they're called) and scrape a small section of ice off the window, just large enough to see through. Then start driving, the rest will clear up as you go.
Finnegan Posted 21 October 2010 Posted 21 October 2010 Brilliant. Sorry, Ben, that was cheap, I know.
